Test rode an RSV today
Pegasus1300 replied to jbose's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Wait, wait why would you wait,it isn't going to heal on its own and you don't know how much of that 14 months its going to take to get it done.As far as I know there is no memo or recall that has been issued but it is a known problem that Yamaha and the dealers have tried to ignore for 11 years. Some dealers are very good about working with their riders others are not.If you don't get satisfaction from one try another. -
AT 5 quarts you are way overfilled. It only takes 3.8 with the filter change. Your level in the sight glass should be at about the middle.Drain a little out then remove the top of your air filter housing and clean out the oil that has gathered there from the breather pushing the overfill up in there.

Pegasus1300 replied to tsigwing's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
so has anybody else had trouble with short life on the HID? -
Looks like it was a good trip. Two things I notice about your bike The leather cover and the color matched rotor covers.Did you make those items yourself or where did you get them? I have an 87 Blonde (The Golden Hind).

Pegasus1300 replied to tufftom4's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
You know looking at the pictures of Tom's helmet and clothing from the wreck brings back too many no so fond memories of ours in June except one and that is how quick Black Owl was to search out and send us flowers in the hospital.I know Tom will appreciate the effort also and all of the well wishes from this group. We sure did.Tom get well and back on the road soon. WWW tires for a 98 RSTC
Pegasus1300 replied to Mike G in SC's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Metzler only has the front tire in our size. The back is too wide a 170. -
I have used the yellow foam plugs for years.I got used to them in the steel mill I worked in and found them comfortable for me. I began using then for riding about 15 years ago and found them to work well under the helmet and with the head phones.I seldom ride with a passenger so can't say how a conversation would go.

I liked the Utopia back rest on both my RSTD and My RSV. I found them reasonably priced high quality and comfortable.By changing the shaft I was able to take the one from the RSTD to the Venture. They worked with the stock seats the Yamaha Studded seats on the RSTD and the Butler Mod seats. It is easily adjustable even while riding.

medical insurance for motorcyclists
Pegasus1300 replied to CaptainJoe's topic in Safety and Education
Unless you are paying extra for it your M/C insurance wont help you as the driver. If you are hit by someone else their coverage will take care of you up to the limits then your personal medical coverage kicks in unless you are with one of those companys that wont cover motorcycle related accidents. This is so big a problem the AMA is continually lobbying congress to address it.They passed a law several years ago that if you were on a legal form of transportation they couldn't discriminate but they still do. Our bills from our recent accident due to a blown rear tire are going to amount to close to $200,000.00. My wife has AFLAC and the passenger coverage from the M/C and I have Colonial Life supplementals as well as regular medical from our jobs or we would be sunk. When I replace the bike I will be looking into driver's medical on my motorcycle insurance. -
Now I know why it costs so much..

For a change consider powder coating the Barons ends. There is even a powder coat you can't tell from chrome. -
Just went thru this in April with my 08 Tour Deluxe.Cosmetic damage only but Allstate totaled it out. They offered me almost $10,000 minus the $500.00 deductable so I got about $9400.Bike had 38000 mi some accessories. Now I get to do it again with the 08 Venture only this time with a broken wrist.Again only cosmetic damage but they are talking total, but haven't made an offer yet.Only 3800 miles this time.I'll see what the buyback is,I may keep it and trike it since I can't keep them upright anymore:( If you buy back you will get a salvage title. If you plan on keeping it not a big deal.If you have warrenty left you will loose that.Yamaha won't warrenty a salvage title.Good Luck and sorry to hear about the broken leg.BTW you will need to get a claim # from you bike insurance for your doctor/hospital and when your pip runs out you will need a letter from the insurance stating that either there was no pip for you or it is exhausted.Get a copy of your accident report asap as you will need it for insurance and for any supplemental you may have(Aflac or Colonial Life etc).Start pestering the hospital for a copy of your bill.My accident was June 23 and I just got that last Friday.

Bike seems Unstable
Pegasus1300 replied to Old Texan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well having just gone down on my 2008 RSV because of a blown rear tire I would say REPLACE THE TIRES NOW. Yes I ment to shout. My bike has only 3000 mi on it. We had just left on a short trip,I had aired up the tires,38 front 42 rear. 40 lbs in the rear suspension 4lbs front.Tire blew 4 hrs into the trip just over the state line from UT into CO going east past Vernal. The bike had 509 miles on it from the first owner and had sat garaged 3 years.Shouldn't make a difference but maybe it did.I also had D404.So i say again don't be cheap go get new tires. The 250 they will cost as compared to the 100s of thousands this is costing me not to mention the personal and family anguish is cheap cheap cheap. -
Oh Dave yer killing me killing me.My wrist hurts twice as much today from seeing your pictures.Ishould of been there. BTW if you haven't been on the TRA site David Day is doing better, even up and walking.Rt eye is taped as the eyes won't work together but he can see out of them seperately. Be careful coming home.Thanx for the pictures see u when you get back.

The lid doesn't come by itself you have to buy the whole bag at 1250.00 msrp.I just went thru this with my 08RSTD in March and now again with the 08 RSV I replaced it with.Allstate totaled the RSTD,I don't know what they will do yet with the RSV.

So it is now the end of July, how are you feeling about your trike?Did the installer make things right for you?How about the part that was destroyed in the fire?
-
Hi Ginny I am so glad that Tom has come thru so well. I know just how he feels.Cynthia and I are pondering our riding future as well after our blow out and wreck a month ago on the new 08 RSVS. Still dealing with broken wrists and ribs but glad to be alive to do so. Looks like some one has already offered you what you need for the repair. If you decide not to repair I could use your windshield for my 87.

Has anyone who has tried a voyager kit also put a car tire on with the kit? Seems like a logical addition to me.You aren't going to lean much if any and you would get a better/wider contact patch for power delivery/breaking.

not disagreeing with you but my experience was different. The one I did came right out using a blind bearing puller and a little heat.I don't remember how I installed it that was 10 years ago but my usual process is bearing in freezer for 30 min and heat housing.Did drive bike for many miles afterwards with no problems.Maybe I was just lucky???

Here I lay in a hospital bed waiting for surgery
Pegasus1300 replied to dingy's topic in Watering Hole
Gary sorry to hear about your difficulties.I am still catching up on things after our wreck.I hope Monday goes well for you.Just remember tho no matter what the price without you around they are no bargin.Get well soon. -
while you are in there you should also consider replacing the needle bearing that is way back in there. It is also a wheel bearing, often gets neglected and is a proprietary Yamaha bearing so somewhat expensive, but worth doing.

Remember Wally Free and the Vincent Land Speed Record:)

Wish I could have been there.Dave and Jan are very special too us.Unfortunately stacking up your bike kind of limits travel plans.Hope you have a great time here in Utah.I will be up in Daves area tomorrow so maybe I'll get to meet you yet.

Flowers on the way
Pegasus1300 replied to Black Owl's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Just an update Cynthia and I have been home from the hospital since July2.For the 1st week home it seems like we went to a doctor every day.My doctors are all in the Lehi UT area and all the specialist are also inthat area (UT county about 80 miles from where we live)And of course you can't pick one day and get all your appoints on that day.Starting this week we began wrist surgury again.Cynthia was Monday and he found a mess in the Ulna..Without a lot of detail it took him nearly 3hrs to put it back right and there are 2 pieces of bone that may not make it,which means the possibility of more surgury later. My Radius was in several pieces and not completely aligned so he took me apart on Friday and put me back together, with a new plate and new screws.I have the old hardware,it is kind of neat looking.I should be ok the dr. was very happy with the re alignment. The only fly in the ointment was that I had another hallucenogenic reaction and was disoriented for quite a while. They finially realized that I was acting normal to those who knew me it was only those who don't that I was scaring so they let me go. Just to be safe tho I get to have an MRI sometime this week and a visit with a neurogist. The bike went to the dealership today to have an estimate done on the repairs.Judging by how the last one went I am sure they will total it out.It is only cosmetic damage but they way they do it makes it too expensive to repair. I will try and buy it back and fix it myself. All in all we feel very blessed.I made the decision 45 years ago when I started riding to always wear a helmet and what ever other gear I could get and I have been blessed to follow thru with that decision. We had the people we needed when we needed them and other breaks. We have a lot of insurance,I hope it is enough. If you haven't upped you passenger bodily injury limites in awhile you might want to think about it. If your company allows you to put coverage on yourself I would think about it.If you have access to a disability loss of income policy( Colonial Life and Aflac are 2 that come to mind) think about getting it.We all tell ourselves it can happen to anyone anytime anyplace.............just not to me here today. But it can.I hope and pray it doesn't to any of you.I wouldn't want anyone to go thru this or feel what I feel when I look at my wife and her arm.I am just glad we were blessed enough not to have it any worse. Ride Safe my friends,I stll hope to make it to a ride in some time but it wont be this year.I hate missing Cody again so enjoy a curve on the Beartooth for me -
Strickly a bolt on operation.Mine have saved my bags in 2 different wrecks.Look for Pete Kadish at Star Days.He is from Utah and rides a Beautiful 06 Midnight Venture.
