  2. Yeah I need a good ride to see if the new fork seals are gonna work. Just no money for gas.Oh yes I may have gone to a trike after totaling 2 Royal Stars but I still have my 87VR and I would trust it anywhere.
  3. You should be coming with us dave at least as far Monticello. You'd be home by Friday night in time for your TRA maintenece day.
  4. I am leaving on Thursday with a group of friends to ride down to Nogales AZ to pick up US 89 and ride it back North. We will be gone 10 days and end this segment in Springville UT then pick up the North segment in Sept. This is my 1st real ride on the trike and the 1st since the wreck last June.Needless to say I am a little nervous but I am so excited I can hardly wait,I wish we were leaving tomorrow.
  5. I did not know he had passed.By coincidence as I was reading this post I was listening to the Bluegrass channel on Satillite Radio when the played his 1961 recording of "It Takes a Worried Man".Great work loved to hear him play.
  6. I had Bubs on my Venture and I liked them. They were pretty mellow. What was amazing to me was that my wife liked the sound also and she can't stand loud bikes.
  7. Boy that lends a whole new meaning to the term "one hairy motorcycle":whistling:
  8. Any good 2stroke oil mixed to its recommended ratio will work. There is nothing magical about a private label oil.BTW does this bike require premix or does it have an oil injection system?
  9. Does anyone know if there is a similar site for GL1500 riders?
  10. What no pictures? Come on Dan we wanna see too.
  11. Now I know where all this snow is coming from!Your aim is just a little off,it is snowing here in Utah just fine:depressed:
  12. :rotf::rotf:Good one thanx I needed a good laugh today,its snowing here.
  13. I got mine too very nice piece of workmanship. Can't wait to try it out.
  14. $3.39/gal ethanol regular in Lehi Ut. today at Tesoro.
  15. Hi CSF If you get an RSTD you will love it.The V4 motor is great has lots of power and gets reasonable gas milage. It is lighter and handles better then the Venture.Fuel injection is nice but not a deal killer in my book.Any bike that sits is prone to gas clogging problems and that icludes fuel injection. The advantages that the RSTD offers over other cruisers far outweighs any lost from lack of fuel injection.Large comfortable bike, sharp cruiser looks, quick change from cruise to tour, cruise control (if you have never had this you don't know what your are missing) best in the industry warrenty, very comfortable on long runs, very low maintenence, very high fit and finish.Since 1986 I have had at least one 1st generation 2nd gen,Rstd and Venture and never had a whine a issue, never had a reliability issue, and never had a carb issue that couldn't be solved with a coupple of cans of Sea Foam,Stabil or Berrymans b12.
  16. I have done a face plant twice in modular helmets one a KBC the other a SyMaxII and in neither case did the chin bars release or break. Not to belittle you concern or your choice just my personal experience.
  17. The pilot jets may still be plugged but Slides not moving and poor running sound like a vacuum problem to me.Are you sure all the lines went to where they should and is the vacuum signal line to the TCI hooked up right? Are all the slide diaphrams in the groove and the tab in the right place? As to further carb cleaning,I have found 2 things that work well for me.The first on I got from the Bench Wrench section of the old Venture Touring Society.Their suggestion was to spray Berrymans areosol carb cleaner into every port you could find on the carb while running the engine. This has worked for me for years and I have only actually had to take the carbs apart once. The second thing I found on my own and that is to use BG gas treatment. If that stuff can't clean it out it can't be cleaned (IMNSHO). Don't give up.If the bike was running good when you parked it, it will run good again. There is something that got overlooked but it will be found.
  18. I liked the HJC Symax.I have had a series 1 and a series 2.The 2 had the flip down dark second shield. That helmet saved my life when I went down in June. I replaced it with an HJC CL Max. It does not have the second dark shield but I find it a little more comfortable and it was a little cheaper. HJC is now going to a series 3 Symax so maybe you can find a good deal on a left over series 2. I have bought from MotorcycleGear back in the day when they were NewEnough and was very happy with their service.Jake Wilson is almost in my backyard so I have bought alot thru them also and been very happy.
  19. This is going to ramble on a bit but I have a point to make. In May of 2011 I found a 2008 RSV-S also that only had 500 miles on it.The PO had bought it new as their first motorcycle, found it was too much for them and parked it for 3 years. It was a beautiful bike.I say "was" because on June 23rd 2011 my wife and I left on a trip and shortly after starting out suffered a catastrophic failure of the rear tire. The bike was totaled and we are still recovering, tho we are still here to recover.I only mention this to suggest that you replace the tires asap you can do that.We don't know why the tire failed on our bike but the pressures were up and always had been during my ownership. My only conclusion is that either the tire had gone bad from sitting so long even in a heated garage, the PO from their inexperience had run it low on air, or I picked up something on the road. In order to remove either of the first 2 possibilities for you I suggest you replace the tires if you haven't done so already.I thought the 2008 RSV-S was the prettiest RSV they ever made and I really miss mine. You have made yours into an even prettier machine and I wish you many happy and safe miles on it.
  20. I loved the white walls on my 08 RSTD.Check the albums here for a picture. There is a product called Bleche White that will clean your WWW. You can find it at Autozone or O'Riely's etc Also if you can find an Amway dealer get some LOC as that will clean them also .
  21. Here in this tech section is a thread called "Mufflers?". It is on the 2nd page of the 1st gen tech sction. Has pictures of putting straight mufflers on a 1st gen. Good luck
  22. Wow you made it thru another year.Congradulation and hope you have a great day:301:
  23. Anything can be made to work anywhere, how much time talent and money do you want to throw at it.The clue is the fine print at the bottom of the ad and the picture of the mufflers..The 1st gen mufflers are angled as they come out from under the bike.In order for these to work you will need to create a set of adapter pipes to go from the collector under the bike up to the mufflers. If you don't have access to a large tubing bender maybe a muffler shop can help you out. Now there is someone on this site who has done something similer and they posted pictures here a couple of days ago.
  24. (Do I have a Problem) Man I wouldn't touch that line with a ten foot pole:rotf:. But if you haven't done it yet you might want to look at the diaphrams for pin holes.Hold up to the light and you can see them.It is best to replace them if there are holes but I have repaired them with black RTV and had it work for a long time.
  25. I also came over from the Venturers and was sent a "special invitation" also back in the day.I don't post alot and havent made it to any of the events but I hope to one day.I don't remember my original # but it was pretty low.I still hang with the Venturers and really enjoy both sites.BTW this is as good a time as any to say "Thank you" to Don for all he has done for this website, the Venturers and the MTA (old VTS).His influence has been felt in many areas.
