Brian you are in my prayers. July 3 was my 1 year anniversary of getting out of the hospital from my accident. Just give it time. Don't make any decisions you can't change for awhile. One of the best things I did for my future riding was to have a friend take me for a ride on his bike. You may have to heal awhile before you can do that but its something to think about. I have gone to a trike now tho that was primarily so my wife would ride with me. I still have a 2 wheeler(87 VR) that I ride a little. All of our riding days are going to come to an end, some of us sooner, some later and for as many different reasons as there are people on this board.Just heal up and remember we are there for you and want you around whatever your choice. We are so glad you are still are around to have choices. It is so much nicer to be seen then viewed.

Uh sorry guys but you just can't get to the Pacific ocean on UT 12.Maybe on a US 12 or 212 or some other road but not this one. It starts and stops wholly within the confines of the state of UTAH. But don't let that stop you.Its a great ride, high WOW factor and if you string it together with the right other roads in due time you will get to see the Pacific ocean. Sorry Goose didn't see your post correcting this issue.

Reserve Tank Question
Pegasus1300 replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My first Venture was an 83 back in the day.I had the bike synced and put on an EGA machine and even had it rejetted but all to no avail.140 miles was the limit before the warning light came on. The 86 was the same way but the 87 will go 160-170 before hitting reserve.Other then keeping them sync'ed I have done nothing to the 87,tho a PO may have. -
UT12 is one of the best roads to ride.Very motorcycle friendly.Because of the height it is not too bad in the summer but you should plan on doing it in the morning from the end of June to the 1st part of September. The fall is a good time to ride as the colors are fantistic and in Spring it is very green and cool. There is a turn out at the top of Boulder Mt and you can see deep into Arizona from there or Colorado or New Mexico. Torry Ut at the end of 12 has many good hotels and some really great restaurants. There are so many great rides to go on from that point you could make it a base. I will be there with the Utah British Bike Club the weekend of July 14th. The group utadventure(Dave) refers to(Temple Riders Association) will be there in September. The Norton Owners Club had their international rally there a couple of years ago. Since I live fairly close to there I try to ride it once or twice a year. The ridge Goose refers is called "The Hogs Back". Some mistakenly refer to it as "The Devils Backbone" but that is a ridge to the north in hiking and 4 wheel drive country.

Carbureation Proplems
Pegasus1300 replied to DickL's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have used the same trick as TZ88.This was first put out by the old Venture Touring Society in their house magazine Venture Roads in a column called Bench Wrench.I think you can still find it over at MTS, their successor. They recommend Berryman's B12 and I have had better luck with that then Seafoam for cleaning.Get the spray and the liquid. Pour liquid in tank, run for awhile and let sit. Then remove airbox and with long tube attached to spray, and bike running, spray it into every hole you can find.Stick tube into hole as far as it will go.Do multiple times until can is used up( big can).Run it for awhile. You may have to run more then one can thru the tank and you may have to do the spray think more then once but it will work. The last bike I did this to was an 08 that had sat for 3 years with no stabilizer in it. In 25 years of riding V4's I have never had to pull a set of carbs unless there was something actually broken.I may be the luckiest *** in the world but that is my experience. -

Suggested oil for an RSTD 06
Pegasus1300 replied to irbk's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
How fun:) another oil thread, let the games begin:rotf: OK my personal opinion is if comes out of a fresh container, does not say energy conserving on the can, and is the recommended weight or close to it, you can safely use it.( close to it means 20/40,10/40,15/40,20/50,40,50,60.) Oils I have used Valvoline 20/50 Racing Kendall 20/50 Black label Shell Rotella 15/40 Chevron Rotella 15/40 Klotz (too expensive for a 3000 mi. oil change IMO) Kawasaki 10/40 Yamalube 4 stroke 20/40 -
Great looking rig.Just beware of right hand turns:)

I hope this is a ligitamate question. I have been here since this site began and was free. I pay now because it is money well spent.I don't really know where all the money goes anymore then I know where any business spends all of its money. At least as far as this site is concerned I don't care,I get more then my money's worth. If you're asking does this site have any value my answer is yes,the value is incalcuable both in terms of knowledge about bikes in general and Yamaha Ventures/Royal Stars in particular and also the social interactions/friendships.If you are just stiring the pot then please go away.:no-no-no:If you have a Yamaha Venture,Venture Royale,or Royal Star in particlular or any motorcycle in general and want a great association with some real riders stick around, have some fun, enjoy the ride. Besides you'll probably waste more then $12.00 on far less worthwhile things then this, even if all it did was line Don's pockets:)

I feel your pain.I went down one year ago on the 23rd with many of the same injuries.I was riding a 2008 RSV-S with only 3500 miles on it.Since there was no other vihucle involved it is hard to bargin with your own company.Good luck with your claims and I hope you heal up completely.I still have a few issues that will probably not go away.

Yeah I did that once too. Also on a weekend and the shop didn't open again until Tuesday.I was there bright and early( well maybe not too bright otherwise I wouldn't have had to be there at all) and sure enough there it was lying on the floor by the tire machine:cool10:. I hope you have the same luck:fingers-crossed-emo

I know that you cleaned out your fluid last year and just rebled the system a short time ago, however I have had a similar experience to yours that required going thru the process a couple of times before it stabilized and would go a long time not needing attention.I can't tell you why but that seemed to work without rebuilding everything.Something to try anyway before you spend real money.

I never sold my 87 even after I bought my 08 Blue/black.That was the first new bike I had in 30 years and I really loved it.Broke my heart when the insurance co took it away. Yamaha makes(or made) the rack you want. You may have to check Ebay to find one.

Don't buy from www.Motorcycle-Superstore.com
Pegasus1300 replied to foyerboy's topic in Watering Hole
I just ordered a Micheline Pilot Activ rear for the front of my trike from M/C superStore. I have bought from them before with good success and also had great service this time.Free shipping at 88.00 instead of JakeWilson's or Dennis Kiek's 99.00 and great price on the tire and on my door in 2days. I prefer to buy from Jake they are only 30 min from my house and they will mount the tire also while I am there but they didn't have the tire at the time. I don't own stock in either company and I have been told I have a very good sense of humor but did not think your implication very funny either. We don't agree on this subject but that in no way negates your experience. You don't feel you were treated right and that is how you feel. Our experience is different. Most of us are just sharing our experience but it is only our experience, tho hopefully if anyone who reads this has not used either store they might get a good feel for what they can expect. -
Report of a motorcycle death on the Dragon
Pegasus1300 replied to midnightrider1300's topic in Watering Hole
We lost one here in Utah when he ran into a mattress someone had not tied down and lost on the freeway. It was early evening and I guess he didn't see it in time. Going the speed limit and no alcohol but also no helmet. Head injuries. http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=20704730&title=debris-on-i-15-leads-to-fatal-crash http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=20712495&title=500-crashes-caused-by-road-debris-every-year-in-utah&s_cid=featured-3 http://www.ksl.com/index.php?sid=20721162&nid=148&title=man-accused-of-not-securing-mattress-that-caused-fatality-is-cited -
Clutch master Sight glass repair.
Pegasus1300 replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
A quick google search turned up this company that sells replacement sight glasses and they are real glass.http://newrivercyclesalvage.com/sight-glass.html The information is real hard to real because the dummies used a dark blue background with medium blue font color. but the info is there.Looks like a good choice and they list a phone too. $15.00 -
Strip it, treat/remove the rust and paint the same or a complementry color to the bike.Or powder coating. There is a coating that looks very close to chrome certainly closer then paint.

Different REAR tire sizes ???
Pegasus1300 replied to Miles's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Of course i don't know how you ride, but I regularly got over 15k out my metzlers 880 or my Avons.I did have deep scratches on the floorboards and the frame tho. I also pull a trailer but seldom ride 2 up.I found that going to a 130 size on the front made steering easier and quicker but I did not like the parking lot twitchiness it induced so went back to the 150. If you really want high mileage out of your rear tire( 25k+) you will have to ride on the darkside. -
My 83 std split in exactly the same place.I went to Fred Meyers (Wal Mart of the 80's) and bought some vinal repair kit.Comes with a clear vinal solution and several colors so you can mix up a matchimg color. It worked great for several years until I sold the bike. Cost under $15.00. I am sure an auto parts store would still have something simular

I know that the 83 MkI came in a Dark Ruby Red and a Black for the standards and aFrench Vanilla/Sierra Gold for the VR.There may have been other US colors but thats all I've seen for 83. In 84 the was a tutone blue( lighter then the later Mkll blues) on the standard and a tutone red on the VRs.I had an 86 VR in Formal Brown/Birch,an87 VR 5th Anniversary Edition in French Vanilla/Sierra Gold, and an 88 VR in White/Gray. I have seen in originals colors a Mkll tutone red, tutone blue, the tuxedo edition,a tutone silver and a solid red.I think I remember an 85 in a Root Beer color with something els but I don't remember what. The tutone red and tutone blue seemed to cycle back and forth the last few years. I really like my anniversary 87, tho I would also like a blue 84. BTW the yamaha name for the 08 RSV S color is Dark Bluish Gray Matallic. I had one of those to but wrecked it.

what is most miles you ever put on 1 bike?
Pegasus1300 replied to midnightrider1300's topic in Watering Hole
1986 VR about 160,000 miles. The engine is now in Doug Nordin's 83 and still going strong. -
The legs are worthwhile as if you are doing anything on the engine the jack does get in the way. BTW now that we have answered your question and provided you with good technical advice maybe you will consider changing your trial member status to supporting member. There is a wealth of ongoing technical developement here not to mention the very fine friendships.Worth every penny of the $12.00
