Tim do you remember the # on the Wix filter? I too have never been able to justify the cost of the spin on adapter either.

Brake pad opinions please...
Pegasus1300 replied to jimmyenglish's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If you haven't used the EBC HH pads before you will really like them.Be sure to break them in as suggested by EBC. -
You know this is very interesting speculation, better to chain or not chain.Who knows? But it is all moot as the law at least in Utah says you will chain and there will be 2 chains and they will cross under the tongue to support it. Until we get some empirical evidence to the contrary I don't think we are going to change very many legislators minds in very many states.

Front Rotors
Pegasus1300 replied to Axlerod21's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
For your bike for sure all years up to 1999 except for the Venture, they may be different.Check the parts fiche on someplace like Bike Bandit for the number for your rotors and then cross match for Venture and Royal Star Tour Deluxe and other years. Also Galfers,EBC,BraKing, and others sell rotors for your bike much cheaper then OEM and they are quality items. -
Hard to downshift sometimes
Pegasus1300 replied to frankd's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
One of the problems with the 83's besides the 2nd gear is the indexing wheel on the clutch side. For some reason the little tabs that hold the little rods in place so the shifter can rotate the shift drum get caught and bent up.As these hang up they cause hard shifting. In time the tabs become loose enough to allow the rod to fall out and then you can't shift past that point. It is an easy fix, just put the bike on the side stand, remove the clutch cover, remove the clutch, you will see the wheel and tabs and the one(s) that are bent.If there is a newer part number you may be able to give a permanent fix by replacing the wheel. There wasn't when I had my 83 back in the day. -
80's Nissan key blanks work on the Yamahas. The locks that hold the bags to the bike are very prone to failure and I have not had much luck trying to fix them so I just open bags and remove the screws from the locks.

Berryman's B12 is safe for your carbs and has been a recommended carb cleaner for Venture carbs since the 80's.There was a write up on how to use the aerosol version along with some in the tank to clean gunked up carbs without removing them. It was in the Bench Wrench section of the old Venture Roads the house magazine of the Venture Touring Society which was semi sponsored by Yamaha at the time. The Motorcycle Touring Society I think still has these in their archives.I use the liquid and the aerosol both when I have a hard cleanup job to do.I have run the liquid thru the carbs on several occasions on both 1st and 2nd gen bikes with great success. From my experience I get faster results from the B12

Handle bar weights
Pegasus1300 replied to chubbyone's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I put ISO grips on my 08 RSTD but kept the bar end weights. I tried it for a week without the weights but didn't like the extra vibration. If using ISO grips it is real easy to drill out the ends to allow the stock weights to slip inside. just like stock. -
JC Whitney is a good source and they have an online catalogue. Also try Drag Specialties and Big Bike Parts. As I remember i think the Harley racks for the Ultra fit but need spacers under them and I think the ones for the Valkirie fit as well. Also Goldwing 1200 series work.Kawasaki Nomad ones look great but have too much curve in them IMHO.

Just get hold of Rick Butler,he has them he is near you and he is on this site. Also good to deal with and an all around good guy.
