Thanx for checking Bill. I already have a bag lid that needs painting and don't need the whole bag.I'm glad you could get the parts that you needed so it wasn't a total waste.Do you know what happened in the wreck?
-
Just looking thru some old threads and found this.Joe did you ever get that Rocket 3? What happened to it?

I had Bubs on my RSV and I liked them very much they were just a little louder then stock but settled down nicely out on the road.Even my wife liked them:cool10:

It sounds like you are getting an hydraulic lock.Thats why it works with no oil but doesn't when you put oil in.It may be just one leg or it may be both legs but you have put something in wrong down on the damper. When you removed the fork leg you should have found the lower damper rod in the bottom of the tube.On removeing it there should have been a rubber piece(oil lock piece and Three(3) special washers,I can't remember if its 2 flat and one wavey or the other way around. If these weren't on the rod they are lying in the bottom of the tube abd you will have to fish them out.If the damper rod is not put back together right you will get an hydraulic lock.

Shock was empty but no leak?
Pegasus1300 replied to CantWin1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You know, if its working ride it till it stops working. If it really lost the fluid from being laid down, then you should be able to take the shock off the bike and dump the new fluid you put in, out and when empty add the "correct mixture and amount".At the price of a new shock either OEM or after market its worth a try. What I want to know is why a bad rear shock causes you to nose dive when you brake? This sounds like a front end problem to me.At 7 years old and 100k miles I would be looking a replacing the front springs/fork oil and maybe a bushing rebuild. What air pressure are you running in the front forks? -
All of the above is good for bleeding out your clutch but no one has mentioned that you DO NOT fill the resevoir all the way.The engine heat makes the fluid expand and since it has no where to go it pushes on the clutch and causes it to slip. You only need to fill it to about 1/4 of the sight glass.

Wheel Bearing Removal Tool
Pegasus1300 replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Good choice on the brake pads.Give them about 100 miles of use to bed in properly before you really hit them. -
Is there a website that you know of for Sena?
-
Rado shack,WalMart.Target,etc. They work just fine.

I also put the smaller tire on my RSTD. I thought it made the front end too light and I went back to the stock size. On my RSV the steering is much heavier due to all the weight in the fork mounted fairing. If I had not wrecked it I would have gone with the smaller tire.

Wheel Bearing Removal Tool
Pegasus1300 replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have used the Harbour freight one for years and it works good. Use a propane torch to heat the wheel and expand it a little makes pulling the bearing easier. When you replace put the bearing in the freezer for 10 min and heat the wheel a little again. The expansion of the wheet and the contraction of the bearing make the install go faster and easier. You don't need much heat just to hot to handle bare hands. -
Nope, just a 1st gen MK1 sitiation. That and the stator are the only known problems for us 1st gens. However, you guys get to deal with----- CHirps, whining, overloaded electrical systems, looks like an HD, gets lost in a parking lot full of HD's, hotter than heck at a traffic light in summer, no where to mount your stuff, etc., etc., etc.:rotf: We still like ya', tho. Dan Well not the only problems. There is also the faulty Zerk on the drive shaft that doesn't actually grease the splines,oh and don't forget about the faulty frame welds that aalowede the frame to sag so you can't get it on the center stand and really bad handling.Oh yeah and the faulty front forks on the 83's that bottom and clunk.( all personally experienced) On there other hand I have never lost my Royal Star in a field of Harleys, the electrical system is the same as the 1st gen,and I never noticed the heat even in the heat of a Utah summer. The chirping and whining.....we enough of that has happened to others that they are problems, but I have never experienced them.:backinmyday: We love you and your antiques too.

A boy chained his bike to a tree, then went to fight WWI.

Puz is the last name of the lady who told the story of her son losing the bike. Putz is a descriptive word from Yiddish I think/\. -

This is true but many felt that the US neutrality stance was unreasonable and joined the Canadien or French Forces.Lafayette Escadrille a French airforce Squadron made up of US fliers is only one example. -
What they said. Its been 10 years since I did those bearings and the bike is gone. If you remove the old bearings and take them and the seals to a bearing house they can match them by the numbers stamped on them.
-
interesting, when I decided to do the wheel bearings on my 86 ( admitedly a 1st gen) the only bearing and seal I couldn't get from Kaman Bearing was the needle bearing for the final drive and I was given to understand that it is proprietary to Yamaha.

There are several V Stroms on KSL. Look for the 650.It has plenty of power is smoother gets better mileage and is usually cheaper then the 1000.Tom and Laura Bernard from the SLC chapter each have one and really like them. They went from a Goldwing to the VStroms. Sometimes it is easier to ask forgiveness then to get permission ( you didn't hear that from me)
-
Usually there is a number on the bearing that can be taken to a bearing supply house and they can look it up from there. Unless it is really odd (like the needle bearing in the final drive) they will have it or can get it real quick.

Doug the KLR is counter balanced and relatively smooth. You should give Rob Beesely a call from thr TRA website. He has been riding his KLR for years, used to ride it all over until he got his Concours.I would get one in a heart beat but I want Cynthia with me so its trike or ride alone. Just remember just because you ride something else doesnt mean you have to leave us behind too. I just checked there are 2 pages of KLRs on KSL one in Provo a 2009 for 3500 obo.8K miles.
