The Italian company that Harley imported was Aermacchi. I had an SHO Taurus, boy was it fast.I always wanted to know if they could do this in a car why wouldn't they do it in their Ventures? Suzuki and Kawasaki were also sharing engine developement in their cruiser lines for awhile. The big Suzuki power cruiser used a Vulcan Mean Streak engine.

They all have rev limiters in them. Yamaha took out the counterbalancers in the Royal Stars (1996-2001) to give them more of a "Harleyesque" feel.Motors were detuned and given the high top gears for the same reason.Very faulty market researce:rotf:

I don't know the Valley of the Gods road but there are othes here who have ridden it. As to the Moqui Dugway ( the switchbacks you refer to) I have ridden it both ways with no problem. The straights are gravel but the turns have been paved. If you are coming from Natural Bridges it looks like you are riding off the edge of the world and if Coming from Mexican Hat like you will ride right into the side of the mountain. It was made and used in the 40s/50s to haul Uranium out of the area. You can stop at one of the look out points and see the remains of a couple of trucks that went over the side in the old days. Don't worry. If going down just take it easy and watch the front brake. If going up just take it easy.I have ridden it both ways on a VR and an RSTD with no problem. In Mexican Hat there is a Hotel/Restaurant sitting on the river that has the best Navajo Tacos you will ever eat.Stop there for lunch.I don't remember the name but will get it for you. This is a spectular place to visit with so much to see and do you can rapidly reach overload. Take your time enjoy the area and stop often. Just noticed the orginal date on this thread,I guess trip already happened?

It seemed to me that there were only 3 pipes coming from under the bike which I think would make it the little Triumph a 675? Daytona? All i know is he is better then me and it was a fun watch.

dragging rear brakes
Pegasus1300 replied to Rick b's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
The easiest way I have found to retract the pistons is to clean around them first then use one of the old brake pads and a C clamp to compress them in. -
The middle of November can be real iffy thru Utah, either snow, rain or beautiful sunny like to day.For a beautifhl ride come down US 89 from Provo. At Spanish Fork take the Price US6/US89 exit and head up Spanish Fork Canyon.About 14 miles up the canyon look for the US89 turn off (right turn) to Fairview and Mt Pleasant. You can run 89 all the way to Sedona then take 89a thru Oak Creek Canyon to Sedona.Great ride. If you let me know I can try and meet you and ride with you aways down 89 from Mt.Pleasant Sorry I didn't read the part about you in a 4x4.I still sugggest US89 just too much good sights to not go that way.Would still like to meet up with ya'll if you have the time.

Long Distance Riding - Part Three: Time for a Ride Report
Pegasus1300 replied to twigg's topic in Watering Hole
Going back to your article you mentioned a couple of times that you were begining to feel the limitations of a 27 year old bike( if I understand your comments).I would appreciate an article on what you are concidering as a possible replacement, why and what you would project you might have to do to it to make it suitable for LD riding. I think that it would also be very beneficial to go thru what you consider necessary modifications in apppreal, helmets, boots, navigation equipt, lighting, entertainment, etc for any bike. I have really enjoyed your comments and experience.I hope that you have more to write in your series. -

inputs on the venture's, likes and do not likes
Pegasus1300 replied to gamberch's topic in General Tech Talk
I just checked the Star website and the 2013 is still featured with a 5 year unlimited mileage warrenty plus roadside service. In typical Yamaha fashion (re 1st gens) this is the most under appreciated under promoted, underdeveloped luxo touring bike on the planet.Buy one in whatever color you like with a mileage count you can live with and a price you like and you will not be sorry. And you wont be meeting yourself coming down the road. -
I just wanted to post a quick update and once again thank everybody for their support and their prayers on my behalf. I am still in the hospital tho I now have most of the tubes removed. You can not imaginehow much of a relief it was to get the one out of my nose. I can now have clear liquids but not much. They are waiting for there to be more activity in my intestines before they release me probably on Sat. i will be so glad to finially get out ofhere.

It was great to have Doug and Dave stop by and visit. All my kids stoped by today and most of the Grandkids. It was so much fun to see all the little ones.Haveing Dave to be with me as I went down the hall was really special. That R/C motorcycile from Doug made my day today.I really appreciate all you thoughts and prayers while going thru this.I believe those things help.I am really tired today, but will post more tomorrow.

CV carb slide bounce

No the top of your work bench is not flat enough. I have used with good succuss a 1/2 thick piece of plastic(cheep) a machinist's surface(expensive) a formica counter top(check with wife 1st then test counter top for flatness) -
Be sure to add a card with your name allergies blood type medication taken medical conditions and emergency contact information ( someone besides your wife if she rides with you.) And keep it up to date!!! When we had our accident last year that was what gave the paramedics what they needed cause I was out cold.

This is all good stuff.I have slept in culverts, under bridges,on picnic benches in road side parks. I never thought of demo storage sheds and I didn't know about the truck stops. Thanks Twigg I knew I was going to enjoy this series. When this is done I hope that the people who can do this will combine it all into an article for the tech section.

And so close to two major rallies. I'll have to come down and see you all once you get settled and do a littlr rallying.

If you really like the Jag that much you might actually do a search in the area for competent mechanics to work on your car.It sounds like you only need one once in awhile anyway, or is the Jag at a point where it may become a maintenence nightmare? I do know that no matter how good a mileage they get they all need to stop at a pump sooner or later and you need to have enjoyed the ride or you wont enjoy the fillup no matter how small.

I had the same problem the first time I went to change the oil on my trike. I found that if I put the front wheel on a 2 x 4 it gave me a little more clearence for swing room.I tried the channelocks but that just crushed the oil filter tho I had swing room if it would have moved. I had to drive a screwdriver thru the oil filter and use it like a tommy bar to break it loose.I could then unscrew it by hand. When I put the new filter on I made sure to only hand tighten it and the next time when I put a filter wrench on it I could grab that by hand and get a good enough grip to turn it by hand. I have since found a set of strap wrenches that I will try next time to see if there is enough swing room.

They are called Bald Eagles because from a distance the early ornitholigists thought that they white feathers made them look like they did not have any feathers on their heads.Or at least so I was taught in 9th grade biology. And what Rick said,ya beat me to it.

The spare tire will actually fit on any of the 3 wheels. This model is called the Patrol. There is also a single wheel drive and there used to be one without the sidecar.I haven't been to the website lately so I don't know. They are getting quite pricey the last time I looked at them.I think they have an electric starter now and electronic ignition. Is fuel injection next. What about a cassett player?

Ethanol Fuel issues!!

+1 on the Startron. Not all Wal-Marts have it though. And as boating season fades in some areas thry may not carry it for awhile. -
After my wreck last year I went the drop top route as well, buying a Mustang GT convertible(now for sale),but for me it didn't do the job so I went to the trike. If I could get my wife to ride on 2 wheels I would be back on 2, tho i am getting used to the trike and do enjoy it more. However we all have to make our own choice and its a wise man who knows when he is done.I am glad you will still be with us,be sure to post a picture of the ragtop when you get it.Keep your mind open though, you may end up back on 3 wheels.Good luck.
