So glad to hear that you are still with us.Once you get your settlement take your time and ride a lot of different bikes to see what you and SO like. You MAY find something else you like better, others here have. Pull your goodies off your wrecked bike in case you do stick with the Venture. Have fun with your search.

I used a double mount and put the satellite Radio on the top knob with the short mount and the GPS on the lower knob on the long arm. This stacked them one above the other.

Between the outrigger setup and the trailer I think that you are doing about as well as can be expected as far as your gas mileage is concerned. Trikes even outrigger types just do not do as well as single track vehicles. Factor in a stiff headwind, pulling a trailer, and probably running in 5th gear at 100kph and the gas mileage goes to pieces. I don't think you would improve the gas mileage enough to justify the work and expense. Now if its just something you want to do for the challenge hey go for it. I know when I started pulling a trailer with my RSTD the mileage fell by 10% to 15%. and it was worse in a headwind. On my Gold Wing Trike the mileage also fell and rear tire pressure also makes a difference. Again as a trike it has a wider stance which presents more wind resistance which cuts down on mileage. Same story wider/more tires all add rolling resistance.

the two events are not related but coincidental. The cable can loosen from vibration, and if you have recently serviced your front wheel it may not have been tight enough. I know this fron experience, twice,( slow learner). I got in the habit of taking a pair of pliers to the coupler and tightening it. As to the odometer the plastic odo drive gear is driven by a metal gear and the plastic gear wears out. I have used LaBelle's 106 lubricating grease with Teflon to keep the gear working. This is a grease used in model railroad locomotives which have the same situation. It is plastic compatible and is available from any hobby shop that sells model trains. As to repairing it,I have tried on 2 different speedometers without success to repair this. After removing the gear I could not figure a way to reassemble it. I ended up replacing the whole speedometer head after running for awhile with no odometer.

Those look like custom made Corbin's. You might want to check with them as to what they would charge to recover them. I actually like the design of that bike.

All my lights are out!
Pegasus1300 replied to JerryK's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Are your driving lights wired up as per Yamaha's directions? If so they will take out the lights. You need to replace the fuse under the seat behind the left side cover. Then take and wire the power wire thru a relay to operate the Driving lights. I also removed the driving lights from the headlight circuit and put them on their own on/off switch. If you look in the tech section you will find directions on how to do this. -
4EDOM. Been going to buy this one for years but never get around to it.

Had a great visit Tuesday night with Al and Annie. It was such a pleasure to meet them in person after having "known" them for so long on the board. Dave and Jan brought them down to Mt Pleasant from where they will head off to Vegas Wed morning going down US 89. We hope to be able to actually ride with them when they return in Sept. Be safe y'all. See you soon.

Touring Deluxe, happier with a 2007 then a 1997?
Pegasus1300 replied to Beancrock's topic in Watering Hole
There are no reliability issues on either model but the 07 will come with cruise control and the 97 wont. I put 35k on my 08 in 2 years. It is a great traveler and works well two up. My wife loved out RSTD and that's what she learned about motorcycles on. It was comfortable for her and she did not miss the radio or intercom. We rode it from Utah to Tennessee, north thru Idaho, Thru out the southwest. One hour or 10 it was a great ride. You can't go wrong with an 05-09 RSTD. -
Have you ever tried this bread "by hand"?

Unidentified Cover/Lid?
Pegasus1300 replied to Peder_y2k's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That cover is actually for the standard Ventures and covers up the box where the radio/tape player would go on a Royale on the left side. It attaches to clips in the box and the key is to lock it.I also used it to protect the empty hole when I pulled the radio out. -
Well you should be done by now. I hope all went well for you and that you have a quick and successful recovery.

Sad news from Dan Monday
Pegasus1300 replied to Freebird's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Dan we are so sorry to hear of your loss. Our prayers go out to you and your family. -
Sad thing to hear. I was never able to meet him in person tho we have both been here for a long time. I have always enjoyed his posts and his friendliness to all. My sympathies to his friends and families.

Ya beat me to it Dave. Any help you need let me know.

The headlight visor will not fit on the 05-09 RSTD because the headlight has a kind of built in visor.

The drive gear for the odometer is Delrin plastic while the driven gear is made of metal. Guess which one wears out first? Anyway the only way I have found to fix this problem is to replace the whole speedometer unit. I have tried to take apart a couple of heads but the gear is not available and after taking the head apart there was no way I could see to put it back together.

I have access to 2 independent shops who will mount and balance my tires for $25.00. I also live close to Jake Wilson and they will also mount balance and fill with nitrogen for $25.00. I of course have to remove and install the wheel/tire on the bike. One of my friends and I just bought a tire changer so I can now also change my own tires.

Sturgis is Sturgis. If the only way you can get there in the time you can take is in the motorhome then do it.I went for the 50th anniversary and it was great, but I had more time and was younger then.Don't worry about the crowds, you wont have to deal with them for long and its part of the experience. There is a great campground in Spearfish with both camping and motorhome sites restrooms and a pool.We stayed at this campground when I went in 2009 at the first part of July.http://www.blackhills.com/chriscampground

Gerbings Recalls Heated Jacket Liners Due to Burn Hazard
Pegasus1300 replied to Cougar's topic in Watering Hole
I just called Gerbings as my jacket falls under the PO# listed. They took my call right away gave me a return authorization number and sent me a packing label for the charges. The only question they asked was did I get burned and what size is the jacket liner.I love to deal with reputable companies. -
What you didn't even get the backstraps or a small roast out of that?!? you must be healing really well,it took me a year to really get my wrist back from my accident and it's still not 100%.Glad you have come back so well and could replace your bike.

Sorry to hear of your loss Dan.I saw her pictures in your other post, thank you for those. She is now free from pain and disease and in a better place. That doesn't mean the loss wont hurt maybe even for a long while but from experience it does get easier over time and God does bring comfort. God bless you and her family.
