  1. I have used Vessel drivers for years and have seldom stripped a screw when using them to start the removal process. I haven't seen them for sale for years and thought they were out of business. Website is http://www.vesseltools.com/‎
  2. Normally i would be looking forward to this,it's in my neighborhood and I have always wanted to ride that area and riding with the the Venture Riders would be great. But I am in charge of another Rally at the same time for a local club. Sorry guys another time.
  3. Your 83 has a different spring then the 86 and on.You have 6 springs and you can get a heavy duty spring for that seet up from Barnett. Either them or Sky doc will have your plates.
  4. As long as you are there and replacing everything else be sure to replace the needle bearing buried behind the drive fingers you were also going to pull out and grease. You were going to pull and grease those right? You will need to remove the circlip to get them out and then you can get to the needle bearing. This can only be purchased from Yamaha. The other bearings and seals can all be purchased from a local bearing house, just take the old ones with you and they will match the numbers. To grease the drive shaft you will have to remove the final drive,4 bolts and its done and the drive shaft will come with it You don't need to do the end it the final drive as it is lubed by the oil in that unit.Grease the transmission end splines and after you have replaced the wheel bearings put it all back together. I have done this several times on 1st gens. It is not hard just take your time, read the tech articles in the archives and the shop manuals.
  5. I found 1998 Royal Star Tour Classic but that is as close as I ever came and that was at least 10 years ago.
  6. as far as I know they are not available from anyone outside of Yamaha and I don't think they have them either. Go to Bike bandit and look at their parts fiche, that will tell you if Yamaha has any.
  7. Nothing should be put in that Zerk fitting,it is just a waste of time. It was meant to lube the splines of the rear the universal joint but it doesn't. You must remove the final drive and lube it by hand with wheel bearing grease. I used to do mine once a year. This problem was corrected in 1986.
  8. Thanks Don. I had not heard about this reunion. What a beautiful way to remember. You are all heros who served during that time.
  9. Yes Bob you were badly misquoted and poorly understood. If the snow is cleared off and the sun is shining go for a ride and relax. It's only one guy and you explained your position very well the first time and in the subsequent posts. The thread you started is a very interesting thread and there are many who are still sensative about their experience. Take a break for awhile then come back later on. We will miss you over there if you stay away for good. Besides I like seeing you in more then one forum. Thank you for your service and for starting that thread. I did not serve,it's the only lottery I ever won,but you and service men like you set the foundation for the patriotism of our modern military and the high level of competence they currently have.
  10. You don't really need a lift as the bike comes with a center stand. Putting a section of 2 x 4 under the center stand will get the bike high enough to slip the tire out without taking off the fender. Rock the bike from one side to the other to get the 2 x 4 under side stand. If you ever did the rear on your 99 the rest of the removal almost the same.
  11. Hi Gary, its good to see a post from you again.Merry Christmas to you as well and I hope things go better in the new year.Just cuz you sold the bike doesn't mean you have to be a stranger.
  12. Thanks Kevin I forgot about the change in 1991.
  13. The Ventures were the standard model produced from 1983 to 1988 The Venture Royals were the upgraded model produced from 1983 t0 1993 Royal Stars were produced in various models from 1996 t0 2002 Royal Star Venture and Venture S were touring models produced from 1999 t0 2013 Royal Star Tour Deluxe was a touring cruiser(similar to a Road King) produced from 2005 to 2009. Again all were V4's
  14. DNA 1983 to 1992 Venture/Venture Royale 2 brush starter 1996 to 2002 Royal Star all models 4 brush starter 1999 to 2013 Royal Star Venture 4 brush starter 2005 to 2009 Royal Star Tour Deluxe 4 brush starter All the above use the 1200/1300 v4 motor with some variations in the internals and carbs and transmission. Hope this helps on the confusion.
  15. As I look at the pictures of your bike Andy the light bar you have appears to be a Ventureline though the hitch is a Markland. Randy your light bar appears to be a Drag Specialties. Not at this point that it makes any difference. As for the springs drill a small hole on the backside of the mufflers and put a stainless steel sheet metal screw in there, much more reliable. As for the rubber I think you could cut one from an old wornout motorcycle tire.Maybe?
  16. so how long( miles) are you running between oil changes? I have heard of this oil before and wanted to try it but the expense put me off. I am used to changing oil every 3000 miles
  17. I was just over there and it is working ok. I don't really like the new format, the old was fine.
  18. Yes open the cassette door and you will see it on the right
  19. The rule looks like the one that Snap On tool dealers used to give away but now sell.
  20. anything that doesn't disappear when you stop believing in it is real. Something may be true today but not tomorrow Truth is true yesterday, today and always
  21. Depending on which set of Cobras you have it may be that the fiberglass packig has all blown out. J C Whitney has replacement packing as does Cobra. Both also sell baffles.
  22. It sounds to me as if the problem is in your auto advance unit. The bump might have jared it enough to work properly.
  23. Ferodo Brake pads have been around a long time and used to be the preferred brake pad/shoe of all the road racers. I used to use them in the 70's and 80's and they were very good, but no recent experience with them
  24. I have had a steady diet of Ventures since 1986 when I bought my 1st Venture. I have had the current 1987 since 2002.
