Bad Fuel Pump Diagnosis
Pegasus1300 replied to jfroman's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
If you look in the tech section there should be a listing of Auto parts fuel filters that will fit. -
I have PMed Kent (SMSgt). He used to be here a lot but sold his Venture for a Goldwing Trike. He looking for a set of RSV bags for another project he has. If his information is no longer here you can find him over on TrikeTalk. Give him a shout I'll bet he'll take those bags.

Bad Fuel Pump Diagnosis
Pegasus1300 replied to jfroman's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
If you recently purchased it do you know the service history? When were the plugs last changed? When was the fuel filter changed? Check and do the simple stuff first. -
Very nice. You'll have to open a Venture museum.

Yes it is a Hurricane but it used the BSA motor and was designed by Craig Vetter and produced by Triumph. The BSA motor had the cylinders inclined forward at about a 20* angle while Triumph motors were straight up.
-
It actually did go into very limited production. Most of the units were ordered by the Army Air Corp and used as messenger bikes stateside. I had on at one time(1969 -70) Sold it for tuition money to some collector in Cal. I was only missing one of the drivw train parts and he said he had a supply.

AJS v4 Racer Posted on September 4, 2010 by muzza In 1939, a water-cooled and supercharged version of the 495 cc AJS V4 was built to compete against the supercharged BMWs then dominating racing. In 1939 the dry sump V4 was the first bike to lap the Ulster Grand Prix course at over 100 mph (160 km/h). It weighed 405 lb (184 kg). and its top speed was 135 mph (217 km/h). So I guess that makes this a 1939

If you do decide to part it out let me know as I could use a good left saddle bag lid in blond. -

Thanks for the info Marcarl. Things are always changing. I did the wheel bearings on my 86 about 12 years ago.I think the only way to get them then was thru a Yamaha dealer or at least that is all I could find.

An now Dave has a 2nd gen and after 25 years on Ventures I'm on a Goldwing trike.Glad you're back. Tells us about your rides on the Shadow if nothing else.

Well I was expecting some kind of joke or something but that was interesting. Thanks, I'll try that sometime. You just never know what you are going to learn in this group.

For all the work you have to do to get to the bearings in the first place you might as well replace them. Even if you go back to Yamaha for the bearings they are good quality and you can get them at a discount at several online houses. If you look in the yellow pages where you live I'll bet there is an industrial supply house that will have what you need in a quality name brand bearing. I have gotten good quality bearings for many odd brands of motorcycle over the years at local industrial bearing houses. So far the only thing I couldn't find was a bearing for a Zundapp KS 601 and the needle bearing for our final drives that is proprietary to Yamaha.

i have not heard of any car tires that would fit a regular VR rear rim. That having been said I don't know why somebody like Precision Machine couldn't make one for you. As to fitting the sidecar I think that CSC could supply you with anything you need in the way of mounting brackets for either bike. Hope that gives you some ideas.

man I like your style.

Hockey pucks or 4 short pieces of 2x4. Or the adapter made by Carbon one. I have used the 2x4 solution but went to the adapter because it has legs that you can rest the bike and remove the jack entirely. If you use the 2x4s or the hocky pucks run a tie down over the seat to the rings on the jack put there for that purpose. -

Rick Butler on this website can rebuild your seat for you also if it becomes an issue.I had him do mine and loved it. As for changing spark plugs I never removed the tank but you do have to remove the dog bones. Dave what a great idea, I never thought of heat expansion. That would sure fix it. -
Unfortunately Who Dat is now asking What Happened? I love my Saints but I don't think I'll live long enough to see them in a Super Bowl again. 49ers at Seattle in Seattle. I want the 49ers but I don't think anybody can beat Seattle at home.

Rear wheel removal: Obviously you have to get it up in the air. I have a Harbor Freight lift that works very well though you do need to shim it with 2 x 4 s or 4 hockey pucs to get the bike to set level. Be sure to use tie downs to hold the bike steady. I have also used the lift to sore the bike and be able to move it around or stuff it in a corner out of the way. When its up in the air remove the bags(4 bolts per side very easy).Remove rear brake caliper from mount ( 2 bolts) and wire it up out of the way. While there check rear brake pads as these bikes are prone to wear the rear pads out before the fronts. They are also prone to wear the inside pad quicker then the outside and yes if it's not too much difference you can swap them. Take a picture with your cell phone or digi camera of where the washer goes, you will forget and have to come look it up. If you put it back wrong the wheel will bind in the brake. Loosen the pinch bolt and remove the axle nut and pull the axle to the right. The wheel is splined to the hub so it should just hang there. Remove the brake bracket and keep track of the washer that goes between the bracket and the swing arm. Pull the wheel to the right and lower it to the ground. You can either deflate the tire or raise the jack (or both) to get the wheel out from under the fender. Grease the splines as they will probably be dry. Reassembly is the reverse. Its really easy to do this and worth knowing at tire change time as it will save you a ton of money when only have to take the wheel in for them to put the new tire on. If you want to get into it there are some other pieces that should greased as well while you have the wheel off but you can check the tech section out for that stuff. If you are New to Royal Stars and the Yamaha V4,this is very reliable motor and motorcycle that needs very little attention to run thousands of miles in style and comfort.Everything that you need to know is here on this website or in the minds of the members.Enjoy your time here and the association. Great people and a great site. -
PMS is definitely setting in. I hope we have a good January thaw.
