Wow I guess I'm kinda late to the party. Nothing really new or different to say other then to thank you and Eileen for sharing your hearts, minds, and faith with us all. Your journey strengthens us in making God centered decisions about our lives. God bless you and keep working on your path. Our prayers are with you both.

That guy is not happy. But are you sure he was talking in French?

I was always going to join them when I turned 40 but then they kinds faded form sight and I forgot to join when I turned 40 and didn't think about it until a few years ago.By then I didn't care.

So what is your thinking on going to a 16" wheel?

RSTD vs 2nd Generation
Pegasus1300 replied to bwk's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have never bought a motorcycle I didn't want to buy. I also have not loved every bike I ever owned either. That 1st AJS was a nightmare. The 1972 BMW was a great bike but it was bland as bland could be and had no soul. The Norton, well I should have never sold it. It took me 12 years to be able to buy my 2008 RSTD and I hope to buy another soon. It too is the best bike ever owned. It looked great, ran great, felt great and never disappointed me in 35k+. If I hadn't wrecked it I would still be on it. I liked it better then the RSV, which I also wrecked. -
This is pretty normal for a Royal Star venture. I would suggest you run your pressure up to 40lbs and at your earliest convenience change the front tire from a 150x16 to a 130x16 The narrower tire will give you a lighter steering front end,

Gen1 Trunk lock question
Pegasus1300 replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Removing the locks is a piece of cake. Just look inside the trunk and you will see the screws to remove to take it out.Same with the lock that holds the trunk to the bike. -
Do you have any kind of an itinerary planned out? If you do and you posted that some of us who may not be at any of the ride ins, etc, could try and meet you somewhere on the road.

Rivco makes those fork guards for the 1st gen or at least they used to. They may still have them. I made my own out of a 4" wide x I don't remember how long piece of Vinyl and some velcro. They have been in use since the early 90's and still going strong. Get a 4" wide piece of vinyl long enough to wrap loosely around your fork tube, hem it so it looks good, and put hook and loop fastener on the ends and then repeat for the other side. The sleeves ride up and down as the suspension moves and being 4" high they cover the area the seal will ride over. Cost me under five bucks to make em.

So next in Line. I can't edit off the name or get this picture to post.

BTW the turn signals on the bar ends were made by Hella a German company and used extensively aftermarket on BMWs.

1962 or 63 Norton Electra 400 cc a baby Atlas. I can't get the picture to upload.

I warned you I was slow.

I saw this the other night a really enjoyed it,though I would have liked to see more road riding. Enjoyed the old gal that was still riding at 85.
-
Yeah I run 41,but I tried every thing from 38 to 44 and settled on 41 as the best for me. I also like 24 and 26 in the rear. Again test and see what you like.

I will be in that area in the middle of July either going to or coming back from the Beartooth.I'll try and stop by

Actually I have ridden it in both directions with a 1st gen and an RSTD. I did not think it was as bad as I had been led to believe. They have paved the corners so only the straight sections are gravel. However if you are nervous ride it going up as that is much easier. When you get to the top stop and look around and it looks like you are going to drive off the edge of the world. There are also a couple of turnouts where you can stop and look out over the horizion. Oh that "Steep and Twisty" section, yeah that is the Moqui. It is just a cut in the side of the plateau to get the Uranium ore down the shortest way possible to the processors in Moab. It was dug in the late 40's early 50's during the Uranium heyday.

You are welcome. Most of us on trikes are running 41 to 42. The front 404 will wear fast. i had a Michelin on the front for a while but it was rough riding on the wing. I went to a Bridgestone and it rides smooth and steers very light for an unraked front end.I also like the way it grabs. I can go into a corner more aggressively then the E3 When you replace that 404 if you can, find a rear tire the same size as your front tire is now and use that.It will last you much longer. I have 8000 miles on mine now and the tread depth is almost as good as new.

Well of course the 1st thing you have to decide isthat you can't see it all. I have been traveling the Southwest since 1958 and lived here since 1968 and I still haven't seen it all by car or bike. West Texas Muleshoe Tx: Very motorcycle friendly. At one time if you stopped at the police station they gave you a registry to sign of all the bikers from all over the world and would buy you a cup of coffee (hot chocolate in my case). The cheif even took me to his house to talk BMWs New Mexico Santa Fe Old town Albuquerque old town Sandia Mountains Ruidoso Chama (steam trains) Coronado trail historic site Ship Rock Gallup Bosque Redondo memorial at Fort Sumner ElCamino Real Historic site etc, etc, etc Arizona Globe US 191 from Globe to Morenci (or vice versa) This is better then the Dragon and nearly 100 miles long. And you can see the scenery but you better watch the road. Sunset Crater North Rim 4Corners Oak Creek Canyon Sedona Utah Bryce Zions Cedar Breaks Kolob Canyon Kolob Resevoir Captital Reef US 89 from Kanab to I70 junction (Marysvale,Big Rock Candy Mountain,Junction,Mt Carmel Junction There is so much to see around Monticello I can't begin to list it but you gotta ride Moqui Dugway As I said you can't see it all and you can't really do justice what you can see just riding thru but it is a trip of a lifetime no matter how much you get to see and do Eats BBQ restaurant on the south end of Morenci.Great food Hamburgers at Ray's Tavern in Green River UT Navajo Tacos in Mexican Hat Ut Biscuits and Gravy Cortez Colo. Any restaurant there. Mexican Food well almost anywhere in the Southwest but the restaurant in the old government house on the square in Albuquerque is great.Southeast corner I think.

Info needed fork seals
Pegasus1300 replied to kentuckyrider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
the tried and true old method is to use an appropriate sized socket as a seal tool and having done so for years they do well. If you want a real seal tool go to Harbor Freight. They have one that will fit multiple sizes in one tool for about 8 or nine bucks. It worked well for me on the last set of seals I did. -
I don't know how long you have been riding a trike but when I switched over it took me quite awhile to get used to the steering. I had been on 2 wheels for nearly 50 years. I found that I was beginning to tolerate it better after about 5k miles. It has now been 2.5 years since I bought my trike and the steering doesn't feel near so strange to me anymore. I do not have a raked triple tree on my trike but I found that switching tires made a big difference. It had an E3 on it when I bought it and I thought it steered like a truck. I now have a rear Bridgestone Battle Ax same size as the original Goldwing 1500 front tire and it steers much better. Also what pressure are you running? I find 41 lbs seems to work great for me. Good luck with the trike and if you haven't already, come visit us over on TrikeTalk.com

Hi Patricia Congratulations to you and Mike. I know hard it can be to continue to support someone that everybody else has written off. When they finally make it just feels so good for all of you that you want to just bust out yelling and screaming and telling everyone. Sounds like life is starting to really open up for Mike and I hope all continues to go well.God bless you both.

I am going to pass my turn back over to someone else as I really don't have the patience to find a stumper for you all to work on,tho it was fun to run across this one. Thanks Hell yes and Prairehammer for keeping this going. It has been fun and informative.

Erlan Monark M500 1952 or so the picture says. Obviously from the look of the engine it's not a 500cc so the number must just refer to a model number. I can't get the file to upload but here is the URL http://cybermotorcycle.com/gallery/monark/Erlan_M500_1952.htm
