Taters lost another sister
Pegasus1300 replied to BIG TOM's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
So sorry to hear of your sad news. Our thoughts go out to you in your time of loss. -
when you get the front end off the ground again rather then pull the front end left to right push/pull it fore and aft using the front wheel. If you detect any movement then it is time to redo the steering head bearings. Also your bike is 25 years old and Yamaha is not known for putting an abundance of grease in the steering head. You can reach in thru the headlight opening with a long drill and drill a small hole for a zerk and grease the bearings that way. Yes it will take a lot of grease to fill the cavity at first but not so much after that. It does create rather a mess when you go to change them, but you will never have to worry about the grease again. I got this idea from the old Bench Wrench section of the VTS magazine.

Running rough at 85
Pegasus1300 replied to Mad Dog's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The rational behind this is that the 5th gear in the RSV/RSTD is an overdrive and not really meant for acceleration. It will do it because there is a good bit of power there but it doesn't really like it. Couple that with a tall final drive ratio and you have bog situation when you try to accelerate. Color Tunes have been around since the early 70's and are a proven tuning tool. Color Tune then sync your carbs. If you are running on 25000 mile plugs you are due. When you pull them they will look new and you will think you have wasted your money, but they need changing and should be done at 15000 mile max preferably 8-10000. Valve adjustment when I got my 1st Venture in 83 I used to have the valves adjusted at the recommended mileage but it just got too expensive. Then I learned how to check them myself and discovered that they didn't change very much over time so I went to an "as needed" interval and found i could go thousands of miles before adjusting,60 to 70000. I learned on Brit bikes and I was adjusting them every week, this is a different design and better materials. Carb Sync. Do often. -
If I remember right there a marks in the back of the black backing for places to drill holes to fit light sockets in which could the hold led bulbs or could be used to thread a strip of lets thru.

congratulations on all those years legal or otherwise. Hope you have that many more left in you.

Its a Russian rip off of a Rokon TrailBlazer. They have been building them since the early 70's. They have moved on to better designs now but the same concept. http://www.rokon.com

If his cable can't do what you want, and I don't know not familiar with your radio or his cable, call Sierra Electronics. They can adapt the older Honda radios to an aux input cable.

+1 on that. Except for the ball mounting plate they are different.

Come go for a ride on a 1942 Harley,, if you dare...
Pegasus1300 replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Reminds me of my first Harley a 1934 flathead, I think it was an 80 incher. My buddy and i fond it in a chicken coop all covered in.... well you know what it was covered in. We talked to son of the original owner, still running the family farm in central Utah. The old boy had passed away and the son was not a rider, so we brought it home. Cleaned it off and got so fresh gas and a battery and oil in it. Took a couple of hours to clean out the carb, but we did get it fired up. As I remember it now we didn't put any tires on it just road it around that Spring then took it to Calif. and sold it for tuition money for the fall. Hand shift, foot clutch and all it was fun to ride. Thanks for the reminder, that was a cool video. -
Not to throw too serious a cast on this thread but when my wife died the day after the funeral I went on a week long ride. It really was great therapy. I saw beautiful scenery and got to think about the good times we had.

Cowpuc How do you keep that thing from becoming a sail or flapping apart in wind. That is one of the most creative packing jobs I have ever seen.

Some delusions are really quite enjoyable.

I never had to cut a 2nd gen so I don't know if they are the same but a Nissan blank from the eighties will work for 1st gen keys. I was stranded in a Sears parking lot with a broken key and the people at Sears matched the blank and cut me a new key.

It is highly modified but I think it is a 77 Hondamatic cb750A. Here is the picture

Front Braking Distribution
Pegasus1300 replied to shmily's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That works, I have done it just remember to keep checking them -
Sky was crystal clear here in UT and thanks to the Sky Map link posted by Lil Beaver I had a great time not only watching the eclipse but the rest of the sky as well. Saw the eclipse from about half way thru to full and the back out just enough to get a flash of white on the top of the Moon as the shadow cleared.

Front Braking Distribution
Pegasus1300 replied to shmily's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
They are supposed to apply equal braking to both sides from the right hand lever. If the wear seems to be pretty equal it is probably a non issue. There is a groove down the center of your pads. Is it still visible? If so you have pad life if not time to replace. But more importantly have you looked at your rear brake. This is a known rapid wear point and should be checked every 3k-4k in my opinion. The pads on the rear can be gone in as little as 5k. -
"I think you will be surprised at what you can see with just that little bit (relative to a high powered telescope) of magnification. If you want a list of objects you can see, check this out http://www.skymaps.com/downloads.html" Thanks for the tip on the sky map. I printed one off and will be using it tonight.

Jonas you have a beautiful bike to ride in that beautiful countryside.

I did this to my 2008 RSTD and it really set it off. If you decide to do this the hardest part is getting it on the lower fairings/leg shields. Their edges are thicker then the fenders or bags. Do it on a warm day and let the chrome sit in the sun for a while. It will go a lot easier, or use a hairdrier to warm the chrome.
