  1. Is there anyone here who lives near to Webster TX that could go check a 2008 RSVS for me Texas Yamaha South has one that they needs repair. I need to know what repairs and how the bike looks otherwise. You can call me at 801 830 9927 or pdg789@gmail.com Thank you in advance.
  2. These are the type of stories that I love to read. Man buys bike rides and enjoys it for years lots of good memories and then puts it back to original and starts over again for more memories.:cool10: BTW beautiful job on the restoration.
  3. remember that these are JIS screws NOT Phillips. If you have a hand impact driver and can get it in there they will probably be JIS bits.
  4. Front tires have much lower load ratings than rear tires and they also, size for size, have less rubber so they will wear out faster. It is common practice to put rears on the front but I have never seen anybody do it the other way around. Trikers especially are prone to do this for the extra rubber to steer with and longer tire life.
  5. Ibuy at Jake Wilson but then they are only an hour away from me also. BTW On my RSTD I did run a WWW on the front and a Blk wall on the back. It was ok but you could twll there was no WWW there. I thought it really changed the look when I went to WWW front and back even tho you could only see a little of the tire As to rear m/c rear tires on the front I am currently running a Bridgestone Battleax rear on the front. I have run them mounted backward and forwards and in my experience it makes no difference. Your experience may differ.
  6. one of the reasons that I have gone to three wheels is that I realized that over the years my ability to maintain situational awareness has decreased enough that it is a relief not to have to be aware of balance issues as well. I am 68 and at least for me age has slowed me down. I can well understand the rise in accidents in an older riding population.
  7. there are no adjustable fork springs, but Progressive makes a real good replacement for the stock springs which by now will be pretty tired. Check in the tech section for how to on seal replacement.
  8. Remember that the Venture came first so actually the Vmax was a hot rodded Venture with all the touring stuff stripped off V Boost, bigger carbs, hotter cams, and lower final drive ratio.
  9. This has been around long enough that now we have most of the major car manufacturers recalling 100's of thousands of cars from multiple model years which do shut off by themselves and crash:rotf:
  10. Back in the day when I was a dealer we used to get a Magazine called Motorcycle Dealer News. It would list the top selling states by number of motorcycle sold. California was always at the top no surprise there Next was Texas again no surprise. The surprise came when I saw Michigan and Wisconsin listed in the top 5 and always in the top ten.
  11. You have a very nice bike there and it has some of the rarer chrome pieces on it such as the bag top rails and the fairing chrome air intakes. Did you get the little pouches with it that mount on each side of the fairing and on the right side of the top trunk? What about a passenger audio control? I don't think that bike has ever seen very much sun. What a beautiful color.
  12. was that when you thought you were wrong but weren't:rotf:
  13. 2nd gen is 1999 to 2013. 1st gen MkI is 83-85, 1st gen MkII is 86-93
  14. August is considered Monsoon Season in Southern Utah. We don't get much but what we get comes all at once.
  15. of course we'll make fun of him but smile while we're doing it and a good time will be had by all. On the running part did it have old gas in it when you started it and now the carbs are all gunked up, Or did something shake loose on the rough trip home? Need some more details on the bad running.
  16. Do you enter yours from the extended end or from over the body? Mine entered from the extended end by means of a short ladder.
  17. It is not a Bunkhouse either. I am sorry I don't remember the name but they were originally made in California and went out of business sometime in the late 80's early 90's. I had one for 20 years and the Naugahyde was only starting to break down in the last year or two. The canvas is very heavy and tough and never should any signs of wear. Never any mildew. The hub caps are aftermarket. There should also be a an extension that zips to the rear and comes up over the top and extends about 6 ft forward to give a dressing room. Side walls would zip to the top and velcro along the sides next to the tent at about the midpoint. In looking at yours they may not have added this as it was an option at the time. Mine had an aluminum body but yours appears to be fiberglass. It towed very well, held everything I wanted to carry and was comfortable to sleep in for two people though it creaked a little when first getting in. When I get home I will find some pictures of it and post them. You could make a cooler carries easy enough and it also had a Naugahyde piece that snapped to the front of the cooler. Unfortunately I sold mine about a year ago and have regretted it ever since.
  18. Looks like you found the culprit.
  19. Not to discourage you from keeping Jan comfortable, but is she going to start riding more with you and less on her own? BTW thanks for coming down yesterday and providing a place for the others.
  20. We would love to have you and in fact if you are ever in central Utah riding along US 89 stop by and we will throw some candy your way.
  21. Just ran into Dave (Utadventure) and Jan Harris in Mt. Pleasant Ut. They are down here for the Pioneer Day Celebration on July 24th and will ride in the parade with some of our other friends and myself. It is always good to see them. Though small the Spring City parade and Pioneer Day is always a fun time. We can still throw candy to the kids on the roadside and since they put us close to the front there is usually not much slowdown.
  22. Before you make a final decision see if you can find a paintless dent repair facility in your area. I dropped a big piece of angle iron on the front fender of my 08 RSTD, I took it to one of the facilities in Lehi Ut and they had it done the next day without even removing the fender from the bike. I don't know how they did it but it worked great and I could not find the dented area afterwards. $120.00
  23. Well you now what they say about musicians always playing around and fiddling with something.
  24. I assume you have a 2nd gen. I too removed the disc covers as I liked the look of the machined rotors. It did not make any difference in the way the tires wore or the way it handled. This was on a 2008 RSTD. As I remember the weighted cover goes on the throttle side of the bike what I would call the right side. I do not know why it was weighted and I have never heard if anybody came up with a reason.
  25. I have had this happen before as well and found the problem to be mist/condensation from the hot engine after wash causing problems in the tci box. It didn't seem to matter if the water was low pressure. There was enough steam coming off to cause a condensation problem. If you haven't done so already you should probably move it to the top of the air cleaner. On my bike I could either let it sit until it dried out or I could ride it until it dried out and ran right.
