Well here is my story. I love the second gen. I like the cruiser styling. If I had to trade right now and there was no longer a 2nd gen, I would most likely go with an Ultra Classic. Now I've owned 3 first gens and they are just not ergonomically friendly for my build or something. But if I WERE riding a first gen and really liked it and found the time had come to replace it, the BMW K1200LT would be near the top of the list.

Looks great in the pictures. I hope it is everything he dreamed it would be. Dan sure deserves it.

I wish we had a step by step procedure for it but I think there have only been one or two people who have done it. Salty did it to his but later sold his RSV and never did a complete write-up as far as I know. Maybe somebody else here will jump in with some details.

Update on Gas Mileage
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've tried all different grades of gas and have SEAFOAMED the heck out of it. -
Sasha, He lived in Hebron, IL so possibly not too far from you. I think that in SOME cases, the law in your native country may have it right. If it involves a drunk driver, drugs, etc. then there should be jail time in my opinion. In the case of a young person at a bad intersection though, I think some compassion is called for. It's a tough call sometimes. I would personally not wish to be a judge. This young lady is going to have to live with this for the rest of her life. My prayers go out to all involved.

Sorry Russell, I would have to see pictures and a notarized affidavit.

I use ITunes and like it. I'm not sure that their format is compatible with all MP3 players though.

If You Have Not Done This, You Should Try It!
Freebird replied to SledgeHammer's topic in Watering Hole
I had the pleasure of doing it on the bike about 4 or 5 years ago. It was fantastic. Be sure and do the "Road to the sun" if you make it up there. Fantastic and beautiful place to ride. We crossed over into Canada and went to Banff (did I spell that right:confused24:). On the USA side, we stayed at a small motel right inside the park. Had a great time. Even went white water rafting while we were there. Here is a pic of Eileen and I at the top of the "Road to the Sun". Wouldn't hurt to wear a jacket. -
Update on Gas Mileage

Yes, I did change to RSTD pipes but as far as I can tell, they are identical to the stock RSV pipes with the exception of the tips. -
Folks...most of you know that I am NOT one to scold folks but PLEASE remember, this is a PG rated site. If you want to talk about snow, please find a site that allows such vulgarity.

Very nice bike. First thing I would have to do would be to find a drivers back rest...other than that...looks like it is ready to go.

Update on Gas Mileage
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The plugs actually looked good. Gap was fine and color was good and also consistent between them all. I got around this morning to checking the LEDs on the Dyna 3000 and according to them, it is working fine. TPS LED lights up at 50% throttle position as it should. According the LEDs, it is operating properly. I'm pretty sure that the Dyna is NOT the problem but I may try the stock one anyway just to completely eliminate that possibility. So...coils are good, plugs are good, air filters are good, Dyna appears to be good. That leaves me with carb problem or mechanical resistance. I'll put it on the lift today but I'm sure that's not the problem. I've had it on the lift a number of times and always spin the wheels and etc. Sure looks like a carb problem and carbs, other than synchronizing, are NOT my specialty. I guess I'll pull them over the winter though and see if I can find anything. -
Folks, I really want to add David to our memorial pages but I don't have a picture of him. If anybody has one, please let me know. Thanks

Amazon now also has a music download store. You can download single songs. Haven't used them yet but I understand that they are pretty good. http://www.amazonmusic.com/b/ref=gw_br_mp3/104-2229996-9119932?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=163856011&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=left-nav-1&pf_rd_r=0YMKB141F0S1X4KS83ZE&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=313702901&pf_rd_i=507846 As for players, I have been using an IPOD for years. It's an older one with 16 GIG drive but has worked well. I have over 100 complete CDS on it and it is only about half full. I've heard others complain about the hard drives going bad when used on a motorcycle but I've had no problems. BUT....yesterday I upgraded my cell phone and got a new Motorola with MP3 that uses a 4 GIG Mini SD card. So, I figure I can put about as many songs as I want on the 4 GIG card. If I want more, I can just carry an extra card. I like the idea of eliminating one thing to carry. Now I don't have to take the IPOD and the phone, just one device. It has a headphone jack that I can plug right into the auxillary on my bike or can go with a bluetooth setup.

I like hearing them run also. There is a large tractor show in Wellington, OH which is about 7 miles from me. They have it once per year and there are always several of them on display and running. Also, the guy that I bought my 10' trailer from collects them When I picked up the trailer earlier this year he showed them to me and they are really nice.

No, the fairing does not need to be removed on the first gen. It DOES have to be removed, or at least unbolted and hung away from the front end on the second gen. Don

I had one if I can find it. Don't know if it's still around or not but I'll look tomorrow.

I'll see what I can come up with. In the meantime, you DO know that you can subscribe to one or all categories and be notified by email of any new ads don't you? To do so, just click on a category and at the bottom left of the list of ads is a link that says "Subscribe to this Category". Don

Direct replacement for cassette?
Freebird replied to royalstarjac's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
It is noticeable. I think I have blown my front speakers though and need to replace them. You can certainly here the difference when you push the power button on the amp though. -
This is really a simple fix guys. My '99 had gotten to where it didn't stay open far enough either. I simply applied gentle pressure in the upward direction. I could feel smooth tension as I forced it open. Like something was bent or twisted. I was careful as I did it and then it stayed open as far as it did when new.

Direct replacement for cassette?
Freebird replied to royalstarjac's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Removing the cassette player will in no way affect your CB, Intercom, etc. I removed mine and replace it with a small amp/equalizer. There is an article in the tech library that explains that procedure very well. It was not written by me but I used it when I installed mine. -
So sorry to hear this. Thanks for letting us know. If anybody can find a picture of Dave and either post it or send it to me, it would be appreciated. He did not have one in his gallery.
