Yea, but many of these new phones allow you to do just that. Some call it an "airplane" mode where the phone is off but the MP3 player still works. So why carry both?

Please see my previous post. Same amount of air, less volatile fuel with the ethanol mix. Could that not cause a lean condition? I'm not saying that it does, I'm asking sincerely.

I suspect that with all the new high capacity cell phones that there will soon be no reason for stand alone MP3 players. I just became eligible to upgrade to a new cell phone under my current plan. I started looking and actually got one and then took it back because it didn't support the memory that they said it did. I had 4 Verizon store associates and two a the technical support number tell many different things but NONE of them knew the products that they are selling. So, as usual I found it best to do my own research. I'm glad that I did because there are some great new phones hitting the stores next month and I'll wait for one of them. So, what I am talking about is that several new phones coming out will support 8GB of storage via the micro sdhc chip. That is the same as an IPOD Nano. I like the idea of not having to take my cell phone AND my MP3 player on the bike or anywhere else for that matter. Not only is the 8GB chip now available, but they soon you will be able to get them with up to 32GB. That's a LOT of songs folks. I have over 100 complete CDS on my IPOD and am only using about 8GB of space. Many of those I never listen to or really even like, just loaded up everything I had at the time. So, what do you think? Are stand alone MP3 players going to become a thing of the past? Why would anybody want to carry around two different devices when one will do? Naw...I don't think so. Popeye has an '86, it's the second gen manual that has the carb sync all wrong.

I really don't understand how they can be so sure that it's not electrical. I'll be interested in knowing what they find. Sure sounds electrical to me. Unless they have already run tests to prove otherwise.

Well I'm just sort of thinking out loud here. Maybe the ethanol has nothing to do with it at all but I'm still not convinced. Most test show that the gas with ethanol produces poor fuel economy, that's just ONE of the reasons that ethanol is NOT a good solution to any oil shortages. It is not as volatile or something. So if you are really not getting enough actual energy producing fuel, but are still getting as much air as before, it just seems to me that it could indeed cause a lean condition and that maybe drilling the pilot jets out did indeed help with the problem. I will be the first to admit though that carbs are not my specialty. In fact, come to think of it, I HAVE no specialty.

I spent some time on that number about 3 or 4 years ago. Didn't find it to be especially satisfying. The DO have email addresses, they just don't want anybody to know them. I actually got hold of one back then and email the head of Yamaha customer service in the USA. I emailed him a couple of times and got no response. I then emailed him again and said "look, I KNOW this is the correct email address for you and if I don't get a response within the next few minutes, I'm going to publicize it." hmmm.....he replied about 10 minutes later.

Now almost a year later, I'm still very happy with my choice. Well...I looked at a LOT of different ones before finally pulling the trigger just before Christmas. I was pretty sure that I would go with plasma but after looking at a lot of different pictures and reading a lot of different reviews...I finally ended up going with projection. I bought a Sony 60" with their SXRD technology. A bit different than DLP. I am extremely happy with it and it is a GREAT value when compared to plasma. The one I bought generally sells for around $2700.00 in most of the chain stores but I got mine for $2300.00 when it was on sale. Couldn't be happier. The ONLY disadvantages that to the projection units are: 1. They are not as thin. I wasn't mounting it on the wall so didn't care. Mine is about 18" deep. 2. The projection lamps will burn out. I figure mine will last between 5 and 8 years and then it will cost me about $200.00 to replace it. But....it is a 60" 1080P model and to buy that same size in 1080P Plasma is a LOT more money.

I recently heard from one of our California members that he had been having some performance problems with his first gen Venture. He said that he finally got it resolved by a very good mechanic and some carb work. Turns out that it was caused by the gas that was being sold in his part of the country and I think that it is a very valid point. I asked him to let me know what was done and here is the answer to my question. I find it very interesting and it makes a lot of sense to me. I think it could also apply to the second gen Venture. Here is the response: Hi Don, good evening. I'll be as brief as I can, although Mary tells me it just isn't in my genetic make-up! My bike had just had a total engine rebuild, so should have run well, but not so. I kept fiddling with it, and it sort of ran okay, and was a rocket on the freeway. I went to this engine guy, Larry Holt, who has done two V-8's for me...I know how, but I'm 62 now, and someone else can do it for me. I told him I thought I had ignition trouble, and he said no way, not if I can do 80 on the hiway. And if Mary and I wanted to just putt around looking at the sights, the bike would run on it's own at 3000 rpm. I couldn't shut it off with the throttle return twist. Larry's solution was that there was a lean running fault because of the rotten gas we get here, and I'd messed up the carb sync trying to get it to idle as well as it did. We reamed the pilot (idle) jets in all four carbs from 16 thou to 18 thou, and reset the sync. An absolute miracle. Runs like a dream, with a ton of throttle response. The bottom line seems to be: the carbs were designed and built before the garbage gas here in California, and with all the added alcohol, they now run lean. Just for laughs, I put in some 110 octane aviation gas, and oh my! What a ride! Hope this helps someone, somewhere.....Best regards, Mike

This issue will likely be dependent upon the dealer. Maybe if they want to make it an issue, they can. From what I understand about the law though, they would NOT be able to deny any warranty work unless they can positively prove that the problem was caused by pulling the trailer. I can tell you that a few years ago I had a problem with my RSV. It was one of those things that should have been taken care of with no problem but due to my very bad local Yamaha dealer, I ended up contacting Yamaha and eventually even had a lemon law attorney involved. It drug out for almost 14 months before finally getting resolved but at no time during the entire ordeal was the fact that my motorcycle had a trailer hitch on it ever mentioned by anybody.

In my opinion, the high pitched chirping sound is not really normal. Some are worse than others and depending upon how bad it is will determine if they decide to warranty it. -
I'm surprised you were able to hold the price as long as you did. Shipping went up two or three months ago and all metals have gone through the roof over the past couple of years. I think you have been very fair.

Tire change detail questions

Some specific questions though: 1. The tire mounting shop prefers I remove the rotors – do I need to reinstall the rotors in the exact same (hole for hole) position as they come off? Torque requirements? Tightening sequence (like lug nuts)? I've never heard of having to remove the rotor to replace a tire. Maybe it's because they are not equipped to do motorcycle tires though. To answer your questions though, NO, they do not have to be put back in the same holes. You should tighten all lightly though and move from bolt to bolt. 2. The tire mounting shop has no means to balance a MC tire – how much does this really matter? It will really depend more on the tire than anything else. I would prefer that the be balanced. You could feel it if they are not. 3. I know the tires are directional. The rear wheel can only go on one way, so I only need to confirm that they mount the tire so the forward direction results in the rotor mounting on the right side (facing forward). The front tire is also directional, but does it matter how they mount it on the wheel? This has been discussed before and some say yes, some no. I don't think it matters but would make it simple and just put it back the same way it came off. Just put a little mark or something on it to help you remember. 4. I know the brake pads on the rear wheel are exchangeable (inboard to outboard), but are they the same configuration for the front wheel (a pad is a pad is a pad)? Pads are pads. 5. I have come across several threads that I’ve copied for procedures for rear wheel removal, greasing the splines, tightening the fork head, etc. I hope they will be as helpful when my hands are covered in grease “in the moment” as they appear to be sitting at the computer. Not sure if I have all the right wrenches and socket sizes for the various tasks – I have the “normal” sizes 17mm and smaller. Anyone have a list of “special” sizes or tools needed for these tasks (or substitutes, like Crescent wrenches)? Thanks in advance for all who contribute. David -
I don't think so. Remember, the RSV comes with an unlimited mileage warranty, it is based on time....5 years in the USA. The mileage error wouldn't really affect that.

Watch out for those larger magnets. Fine for the front but the first that I tried for the rear were a set of Alpines. The pods/armrests would not go together because the magnets were too large.

You know, I would look into the color of the '04 White RSV. Pictures don't do that bike justice. There is a lot of metallic in it and it is truly beautiful. It is also a slight 2 tone. I love it.

The amp and speakers help but still not as much as I would like. We REALLY need a subwoofer to get more bass.

rear wheel spacer or collar?

You got it right. If you put it in the other way, it will allow the rim to run out JUST enough to barely rub on the frame. uh.....that's what I've heard...of course I would have NEVER done that. -

You would think so. BUT...I had the turnouts. They weren't too loud until I got in the mountains. Long rides in the mountains, the sound reverberating off the rocks really started getting to me. Not just the Samsons though. I ended up running Khromerwerks for a year or so after that and finally ended up going back to stock mufflers. Not even drilled out, just good old QUIET stock mufflers. -
I will stand by that quote. I will ALWAYS be a Cowboys fan and am GLAD that they are doing well. I still don't think that Tony Roma is the man who can lead them to another Super Bowl victory though. I HOPE I am wrong.
