Michelin Commanders is the way to go. Obviously you will get differing opinions on tires. The fact is, most of the members here prefer the Avons or the Michelins though we have a few Dunlop fans also. In my opinion, you will likely get more miles out of the Michelins and they have very good traction in various road conditions. The downside is that they ARE a bit noisy in the curves. I think that the Avons are quieter but probably won't wear as well.

Buddy Rich put this together primarily because he thought the family might like to have it. He did a wonderful job. I hope that they see and download it. Of course any of the rest of you are welcome to it also. Right click on the link and then "save as" to your computer. http://www.venturerider.org/saver/garyleslie.exe

It is at the news link posted above. I just looked again and as usual, found my typos but hopefully it still made some sense.

Thank you....that is exactly what I am saying. As I said in my first post, I do have a modulator on my bike. Will I leave it on there? I'm not sure at this point but as you say, I am NOT suggesting that people remove them. I am simply saying that regardless of how unlikely it may seem, it is possible that an inexperienced driver could simply glance your way, see a flash, assume you are turning and pull in front of you. I KNOW that it looks nothing like a turn signal but again...we are talking INEXPERIENCED DRIVERS here. An experienced driver wouldn't pull out like that even if there is a turn signal on. I would NEVER pull into the path of an oncoming vehicle regardless of a the turn signal until I actually see them entering the turn. Those are the things that separate the experienced from the inexperienced. I'm not saying that you should use a modulator or that you should not use one....I'm simply saying that even if you truly believe that it makes you more visible, it certainly doesn't hurt to realize that there MAY be some instances where it could actually increase your risk. Even if that is only 1% of the time, just be aware of it.

Any tire that you put on it will be an improvement to the Bridgestones. I HATE those tires. They are the noisiest tires I have ever heard.

I hate registering at all those sites but I HAD to reply to the Hometown girl's post.

OK folks. Something has been weighing heavy on my mind since Gary's son posted yesterday about the accident. I've been hesitant to bring it up because I know that we are all still grieving over the loss of a very fine member of our VentureRider family but on the other hand, I think it is something that should be mentioned just in case it is something that could cause harm to another member. I'm talking about the comment from the young lady who pulled out from the stop sign that she thought the motorcycle was turning. She thought that the turn signals were on. That is NO excuse for her pulling out so please don't think that I'm making excuses for her. It caused me to wonder though, do you think it's possible that somebody could see a modulating headlight and think that they see the turn signals flashing? I know that Gary did have a modulator on his. I have a headlight modulator on my bike also and have always thought that they are a great idea and make you more visible to other traffic but this turn signal thing now has me wondering if there is a downside to it also and if so, does that downside out weigh the positives. At the very least, I think it is a possibility that we should be aware of.

You folks are starting to SCARE me.

That is inexcusable. I am done with them also and sorry that this happened to you. I have just send a strongly worded email to them. The fact is, they were a good vendor for us but apparently since Robert Levorse has left there, this new guy John has much to learn about customer service. I wish I had a name and/or email for the owner of that dealership. Would love to make sure that HE knows what is going on. Maybe he wouldn't care but I would sure make sure that he knows.

She got my vote.

I'm sorry but I really don't even know. It was sent to me by Rick Butler and I think there was an original invoice with it but didn't pay much attention. Shoot Rick and email or PM and he can tell you. I really like it though.

I have also contacted Lifesaver because I really don't see which one they would recommend for our bikes. They say that it varies by rider but which one would you even try? I don't know. The proportioning valve seems to do much the same thing but is adjustable. Maybe the lifesaver is better in that it seems to pulse the system though.

Yea...I still think it will sell but like you, I think they missed a great opportunity. Who knows, they may expand on the platform and come out with one yet. I just think that done right, it would really be a bike worth consideration.

This was emailed to me. Pretty cool I thought. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3J6q0fl5so0]YouTube - American Motorcycle Heritage[/ame]

I finally spoke with the guy today who is handling the internet parts sales. His name is John. To be honest, he seems to have just a bit of an attitude but said the right things. He said that he knows about the problem and is working on it. Said that he had spoken to Larry today and according to him, everything is OK with him. He told me that he would be calling you Jeff and that he WOULD give you the credit for the discount. We'll see.

This is terrible news. I've met them both on a number of occasions and they are just great people. Will certainly keep them in my prayers. Please let us know more as soon as possible.

Scroll down on the forum and you'll find Gold Vendors, Silver Vendors, Etc.

You already know that I agree. WAY too sensitive.

OK folks...I have been working on updating our counter page for the 2008 Rallies. Please check them and make sure I have the dates and etc. correct. I will add the Natchez dates as soon as Eck decides on them as well as Maintenance Day dates as soon as I figure that one out. Also, please let me know if I've missed any. I know that I am missing Pyro's VentureRider East and also Venture West but have heard no dates or plans yet for those. http://www.venturerider.org/rally/ Thanks

This is more of what I would be looking for. This is after market but is more in line of what I would want for a touring bike. http://www.rocketdragsport.com/ By the way, here are just a couple of MANY comments that I found in a busy Triumph forum. Seems that VentureRiders aren't the only ones who feel that we aren't heard by the manufacturers. "Oh Great! A Rocket3 with aftermarket hard bags and a Memphis Shades screen modified with a RotoZip saw and some sheetmetal from grandma's chicken house - of course the Buick/Lamborgini radiator remains intact. Thanks Triumph! Exactly the touring bike I've dreamed of (Harlie copy?). I am beginning to believe that a camel is a horse, designed by an engineer (sorry, Benny). AND, I believe a BMW is in our future. " and another one "OK... fine.... I'll talk about it... Triumph doesnt get it!!! They needed to come out with a real touring cruiser. One with a full faring that includes all the gadgets of other touring cruisers. One with a queen.king seat. One with a tri-hard bag set-up. But nooooo, all they did was put a single headlight on it, that is very dumb. I know a couple people that really like the R3, but they bought HD or a Venture because they take off with their wives for a couple weeks at a time and they need to have all the creature comforts of those other touring cruisers."

I sent them an email early this morning and then called them around noon. I have not received a response to the email When I called, I was told that the person who now handles this was off today but would be in tomorrow. I am trying to remain positive and hope that I hear from him tomorrow.

I don't know of any of the motorcycle specific oils that have the friction modifiers. Some of them may but none that I've seen.
-
Yes, that would be nice too. Why stop there though, I say make it a 1800CC and remove all doubt. The thing is though, Triumph is making it come true already...Yamaha...???
-
Yea, I really enjoyed the article. I think it's a great tribute to the VMAX that it runs right along beside a bike with an engine almost twice the size. On the other hand, it is also interesting to see a big and heavy bike that could make a great touring machine that will actually run with a VMAX.
-
I'm not sure about that. I did some searching last night on some of the Triumph sites and it seems that a lot of them are very unhappy with the final product. There had been a lot of spy shots, rumors, etc. that showed the bike with full touring gear and there are 2 or 3 companies already offering fairings, bags, trunks and etc. for the Rocket. Corbin is one but there is at least one more that I know of. At any rate, whether you build it into a true touring bike from the Triumph accessories or from the after market, you would then have a TON of money invested. $1600.00 for the fairing along, probably $600 at least for the trunk...audio system...etc...... Not sure what the total would be but not sure it would end up being competitive with the Ultra or the Wing and of course not even close to the Venture. Not sure what all the accessories will be. The bike is not even shown on the Triumph websites yet and apparently not due to hit the dealerships until January.
