  1. No reason not to do it if it's comfortable for you. For many folks, it causes pain between the shoulder blades but you will just have to try it. The only other thing is that you can't lower them TOO much with the stock bars without the grips hitting the gas tank if you turn too sharp.
  2. Yep, I've had wing nuts on mine for about 3 or 4 years now. They have worked great for me.

    Car Tire ??

Yes, a simple yes or no would have been too easy. It was a good question and nothing at all wrong with it. This is an open discussion forum though and when such a question is asked, it generates interest on both sides. Some for, some against, some wishing to learn. There is going to be discussion and there is no avoiding that fact. Nothing wrong with that. I actually think that it was a pretty good discussion and many people probably learned from it.
  4. That would have been great but this was one of those trips where they had every minute of my day and evening scheduled with meetings, trade show, etc. Never any time at this one. Well....I seem to have brought a little of it home. 45 here this morning, that's much better than when I left.
  5. Very interesting idea that would probably be very educational to a lot of folks. I've had mine off to reset the float heights and it took me forever to get them on and off. I'm SURE that it must be easier than I made it.
  6. Really sorry to hear this news and see those pictures Buddy. Glad you are OK and hope that you get the bike fixed soon.
  7. It was the camera falling off. If you go to the YouTube page and read the comments, he explains that. He did NOT go down on the bike.

    Car Tire ??

I honestly don't know why everybody has gotten so emotional over this tire issue. I will not put a car tire on my bike. Even if I wanted to, I don't like the tread design on that particular tire and it appears to be about the only choice that is available (at least readily available) in the needed size. We are all adults here and if any of you wish to run a car tire on your bike, then you have every right to do so. I see nothing wrong with those who don't feel good about it expressing their fears. In fact, I would feel very bad if there were people here who felt that this was a dangerous practice and didn't care enough to say so. I have no intention at ALL of arguing with any of you who have heard the pros and cons, read the information available here and elsewhere and made up your minds to proceed with a car tire. I would not be happy at all though to see this happen with no discussion about any possible safety risks and people come here and just assume that it's an accepted practice and endorsed by myself, this site or everybody here. If your mind is made up that it's an OK practice, then so be it. If your mind is made up that it could be dangerous, then so be it again. Those whose minds are not made up though deserve to here both sides of the debate.
  9. Who do you have your service with? Verizon is notorious for disabling the transfer of Ringtones. They want you to have to purchase them. There are usually ways around it though. I use a program called BitPim to transfer them to my Verizon phone.
  10. Yep...show up at my house for maintenance day and we'll "git r done". OK...I realize that it may be a bit far for you. I'll bet there is a member somewhere close to you that has a Carbtune or mercury set though. If not, you should just buy one. It will pay for itself the first or second time you use it.
  11. The cost of the XM is the only thing that I really don't like about the 550. I move my satellite radio back and forth between the bike and my work car. I would not use the GPS in my car because I use my laptop with a GPS connected for the car. I just can't see paying for an additional subscription for the bike. I know that it works for many of you but just doesn't for me.
  12. The only thing that I see missing is a carb sync. If it's never been done, it would be a good idea to check them.
  13. Got home from Orlando late last night. It was a long and tiring week and I'm glad it is over with. I really do NOT like trade shows and meetings but I have to do them from time to time. Trying to get caught up on all the posts and etc. I think I've replied to all emails and PMs now and am pretty much caught up. Now I've got to get ready to leave for SOMEWHERE tomorrow morning. Haven't even decided where I'm off to this week.
  14. I keep seeing this but I've used a regular battery tender on mine for more than 4 years now and it works great. It will NOT charge one that is way low but mine will top it off if it's slightly low and will keep it fully charged. I've had no problems at all.
  15. He used to be around quiet a bit. Lived in Germany. He sure seems to have dropped off the earth. Hope he is OK.
  16. I'm in Florida on a business trip. Will be here until Saturday night late. Not much free time and I'm also having some email problems. If you email me and don't get a reply, please try a PM. Don
  17. NICE. I have on on mine that Squidley had made up. I like the way yours is shaped though.
  18. Still plenty of patches available. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=645 I'm leaving for FL tomorrow for business though, it will be a few days before I get them mailed.
  19. Sounds like you have covered most of it. I think at this point, I would check the fuel pump.
  20. I'm not sure what you mean about the XM only going 4 hours. I did have one that was a portable but even it had an adapter for 12 volt power. My others were all hard wired. I now use Sirius and also an IPOD. Both have adapters so they are powered from the bike.
  21. It's not difficult and you need no special tools except for a lift. It is a bit time consuming though. You have to remove the bags and at least the right muffler. $200.00 sounds high to me but maybe if I was in business I would feel differently. I would guess that they would have at least a couple of hours of labor in it.
  22. Rick, You do not loose the auxillary input. It just unplugs inside the fairing and you connect their instead.
  23. Looks like the Justice Department has approved the merger but the FCC still has to do so. http://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/industries/media/article/justice-department-gives-siriusxm-merger-ok_530362_15.html
  24. Send me your address and your preference of guardian bell or two patches. Nice picture. Geezzz Mr. Owl...you DO know how to "stick" a thread. I've done it though. Too late on the covered bridge. The winner has now designated a caboose for the next challenge. Heck...there is actually a caboose about 12 miles up the road from me that has been converted to a diner...if I could just get my bike out of the driveway I could win this one.
  25. If you are talking about their manual tire changer with the motorcycle attachment, I have one but have never used it. I probably will someday but as cheap as the Honda dealer hear will install them, I just haven't done so. It is pretty heavy and I think the price of shipping it from one member to another would make it impractical to do.
