    A trouble spot is where the wires come across the top of the triple tree. You don't even have to remove the fairing to get to them. Just turn the handlebars all the way to the right and I think you can see them.

    OK....keep it simple first. Make sure he didn't hit the kill switch. Try wiggling the key in the ignition switch a bit. It may be going bad.

    He should heal soon. I was easy on him. We talked about the bike of course and he loves his. One thing that surprised me was that he told me that the only thing he wished he had was a drivers backrest. According to his dealer, nobody makes one for the RSV. It still amazes me that the dealers know so little about these bikes and what is available for them. I told him where to get one of course.

    Second gen does not use a fork brace and to be honest, I've never felt that it has needed one.

    Hey...she wasn't THAT nice. Unfortunately, I'm doing the work thing. No bike with me. I've actually been in this area of Kentucky all week. I'm staying in Morehead and seeing customers in Mt. Sterling, Grayson...all this surrounding area. I actually like this area a lot. Beautiful country and some of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet.

    As I was driving through Clay City, KY today, I stopped at a small accessory store "Carmichael's Leather". I was very surprised by the good inventory that they had of not only leather chaps, vests, jackets, Frog Toggs, boots, etc. but also a lot of accessories from Show Chrome and KuryAkyn. The owner's names are Bob and Phyllis Carmichael and though Bob wasn't there, Phyllis seemed like a very nice lady. They ride a Goldwing Trike. If you live near the area and ever get by there, stop by and say hello. She also told me that they have a "cruise in" and that it will be on May 18th this year. They will have food and she said they expect maybe a thousand bikes to show up this year. She offered her invitation to you all. It will be based at their little store at: 4315 Main Street Clay City, KY 40312 She said that it starts at noon but usually bikes start rolling in around 10:30 AM.

    I was driving through Clay City, KY today on my way to visit a customer when I saw a black 2002 Midnight RSV parked at a store. I stopped and "stalked" the owner. Very nice gentleman and he is supposed to come by and visit us here at VentureRider. So...if you see a new member join up from Kentucky, give him a big welcome.

    I don't know what spurred it but a couple of you have hit the donation button today and I want to say publicly that it is MUCH appreciated. Those of you who have been around a while know that I have never pressed anybody to donate to the site but when some of you do from time to time, it sure does help my bottom line. I just want to offer my sincere thanks and appreciate for those of you who do. For those of you who don't, I still very much appreciate you being a part of our club. I know that many of you contribute in different ways.

    First thing I would suspect would be the tires. I've had it happen with some tire brands or with some tires with slight cupping.

    No, that is not a stock Yamaha item. I've seen those in several catalogs and on Ebay but I'm not sure who makes it.

    Glad it didn't end in a worse manner. Some drivers should just NOT be on the road. I had an problem yesterday also. I was not on the bike but in my company van. I was driving down I77 headed to Kentucky. There was a slow truck in the right lane so I pulled into the left lane. Had my cruise set on about 72 MPH and a good ways back from the truck still. Another car was driving behind the truck and had a lot of time to pull out ahead of me and pass the truck but stayed behind him. I guess then he decided that he wanted to pull out but by this time, I was almost even with his back bumper. My cruise was still set and I was getting around at a decent pace but apparently not quick enough for the other car. As I passed him, he looked at me and was screaming something. I just ignored it and went on. Then he pulled out behind me, got right on my tail and gave me a single finger salute with both hands. I'm usually fairly easy going but for whatever reason, I just got mad...very mad and very quickly. As we got around the truck, he pulled up beside me and again flipped me off. I motioned for him to pull over to the side of the road and then I pulled ahead and in front of him in the right lane, slowed down, turned on my turn signal and pulled onto the shoulder so that we could...uh...discuss the matter. He slowed and I thought was going to stop but then I guess he had second thoughts, pulled around me and kept going. When I passed him again, he wouldn't even look at me. I went on and he decided to slow down a bit and apparently wasn't in as big a hurry as he thought. Too bad, seemed like a nice guy and I would have liked to talk to him.

    I've seen those before and think they are a GREAT idea for somebody who is maybe having problems with their knees or something but are not ready to give up riding.

    You will probably never have another problem with it. Glad it turned out to be a quick fix for you. I sure would like to know what caused it but we may never know.

    Jonas, Congrats. You don't need no shrink...well....maybe you do but if that's the case, then all of us probably do. One word of warning. There are a LOT of bogus second chance offers being sent out on Ebay. PLEASE verify that the offer actually came from the owner before sending any money.

    I also think that about twice a year is a good rule of thumb. It's so easy to do, I generally check mine more often but it's not necessary. You may well feel less vibration and the floorboards and possibly a little better gas mileage.

    This is a great thread and is sure something that everybody needs to check on their own bikes. Most of my riding, at least on longer trips, is two up and pulling a trailer that is usually loaded heavier than it should be. I just went out and inspected my '99 and it looks fine. I can see no cracked paint or any other signs of stress. If I see any other reports of this happening though, I will be looking at a way to reinforce that area.

    OK folks...the Ebay listing has ended but the main purpose of it was to promote our club. There are still plenty of patches available and you can order them direct from me. As for the guardian bells, I think I only have about 10 remaining at this time. You can see a picture of them and the patches under the "VentureRider Merchandise" topic area. I will order more guardian bells at some point but it may be a while.

    Well folks, I did get it working later last night. I already have a wireless network in the house and it is still up and working. I plan to keep both services for a while until I am sure that this Verizon DSL is going to be reliable. I bought a second wireless router for the Verizon service so now I have two wireless networks running. Both are working great now. The problem was that I couldn't get the Verizon modem to sync, which I had to get resolved before starting on the wireless part of it. I have nothing connected to ANY of the jacks. I had my land lines turned off about a year ago, we are all cellular phone in the house now. This is a new number for the DSL, dry loop service because there is no active land line. There are no other devices of any kind plugged into any of the jacks. I found that there were three phone cables hooked up to the DSL line in the junction box coming into the house. I disconnected two of them and left only one hooked up. I ended up cutting it right inside the basement where it comes into the house and installed a jack there and connected the modem. Now there is only about 3 ft. of cable between the jack where the modem is plugged into and the box outside. It syncs up just fine now. I then connected the modem to the new Wireless router so the modem and wireless router and installed in the basement and working fine. I was a bit worried about it being in the basement but the signal is very strong on the first floor as well as the bedrooms on the second floor so it looks OK at this point. If I have any problems, I'll run a new cat 5 cable from the junction box up to the first floor but it looks like it will be OK as is. I ended up buying a Linksys Wireless N MIMO router not because I think it's the best but because the price was right and it's actually working great. With the modem and router in the basement, my speeds are fine. Test speed to test servers in Washington D.C., Dallas, TX and Los Angeles, I'm getting consistent downloads over 2800 kbps and uploads close to 800 kbps. I signed up for the 3000 kbps download package so that is pretty close. I ran these tests from the bedroom on the second floor so the router is providing a good signal through the house. All is good right now.

    The good news is that after waiting for about 6 weeks, Verizon FINALLY got my DSL installed today. The bad news is that it will only work if I take my computer outside, sit it on the central air unit, run an extension cord around the house to plug the DLS modem into, and connect it directly to the telephone junction box. The modem will sync out there but not when I connect it in the house. Apparently I've got some sort of problem with my internal wiring. Too many outlets or something. The thing is, we don't even use any hard wired phones in the house, only cellular, so I just have to trace out the jacks and disconnect some or just run a new cat 5 wire from the junction box outside. Maybe I'll get around to that tomorrow.
