I removed mine about an hour ago to have new tires put on. I can't say that there is not an easier way but this is the way I do it. I remove both saddle bags and both mufflers. I them remove the brake caliper bracket. I then lift the bike with my lift and Carbon One lift adapter. Remove the axle bolt. Let the wheel come out the bottom.

That link that you posted doesn't exist. You are reading it out of your computer cache. Clear our cache and you won't even be able to go to that link.

Good...that is what I intended. Some mail providers will bounce the mails if the email address is not the same as the domain name. Now everybody just needs to make sure that one is added to any spam white lists and etc.
-
You ALWAYS confuse me.
-
are you sure? It should have been either dk_nelson@verizon or dnelson@venturerider...hmmmmmm.....if it did say that, I have some looking to do.
-
Cinderella, I remember that you are using Yahoo. They have gotten terrible about blocking emails and a LOT of forums are having a problem with them. I personally HATE yahoo email. I get notices on every yahoo account here that the mails have been delayed. I've made some changes in the forums mail config and even filled out and emailed them a form last night that they require in order to let mail get through. I got a response back though that it would be at least a week before they look at it.
-
No problem. Just please update your email in the UserCP when you are up and running again. You may want to check your "White List". They are not bouncing so they must be going to your spam folder. Everybody should make sure that the domain venturerider.org is in your white list and also my email address, dk_nelson@verizon.net

Folks, I sent out a mailing tonight regarding the International Rally and got probably 200 bounced emails. Please check your email addresses to verify that you have them updated with your latest ones. Also, MANY of you have added spam solutions that require the sender to click on a link, go to a website and confirm who they are. I don't blame you for doing that but I just don't have time to go to all those sites and confirm it. All of those programs have "whitelists" so that you can add people that you know to them. If you wish to receive email from this site regarding private messages you receive, replies to your posts, etc., you need to add venturerider.org to your white list. Otherwise, you will not be getting any emails. I'm going to install a custom script that will automatically move members with invalid email addresses to a different usergroup. You will not be able to post until you correct the problem. Thanks for your help.

DUH...you are right. Don't know what I was thinking.

No, the old bookmarks will not work because they would be pointing to the old server. You should be good to go now.

You much have used the "Search" function in the left menu bar. I think I'm going to remove it completely. It only searches the "portal" which is basically just the home page the way I am using it. It does NOT search the forums. I think I'll just get rid of it as it cause more confusion and really doesn't offer anything. Use the search link in the menu bar at the top.

Dunlop 404
Freebird replied to scooter45's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Be happy. In my opinion, the 404s are 200% better than the brickstones. They will do a good job for you. I wouldn't replace them with the same thing but they will be fine until you wear them out. Also, the OEM Dunlops on most bikes seem to last well into the 12,000 mile range. It's the replacements that seem to be different. -
As I said, we were running at the very upper end of our memory. It was either remove some of the "pretty" feature here or upgrade the memory. I chose to add another 256MB of memory at this time. We are now running about 45% of our memory capacity where we were running between 85%-95%. Way too close for comfort. Also, I am not experienced at optimizing the root processes. PHP, MYSQL, Apache, etc. I finally decided to hire some outside help to optimize the server for us. He is working on that now and will be watching and making changes to some of the server settings over the next 3 or 4 days. You may see some very short interruptions as changes are made. Most will not cause the site to go down but there may be a few times when he has to turn off the forums while he recompiles the PHP and etc. Any outages should last only 2 or 3 minutes in that case. We are getting there folks and I think we are in good shape now. Thank you all for your patience as we go through these little growing pains.

If I'm not mistaken, the 10W40 is energy conserving oil and you should NOT be running it in your bike. I've been running Mobil 1 synthetic in my '99 since '99 and love it. I use only their motorcycle specific oil though. That being said, I have never heard of it causing the noise that you are hearing. The problem is usually that it can cause clutch slippage.

Thanks...that is what I was thinking about, not ping. Guests are a combination of actual guests, members who haven't logged in and search engine spiders. Not much you can do about it if you want to be found in the search engines. As for speed, again, it is likely just that this server is located in a different location that the last one was. It could be faster for some folks and a bit slower for others depending on various bottlenecks between you and the server. I'm adding memory so that will make the server perform a bit better but there is nothing I can do about any bottlenecks in the network between each member and the server.
-
By the way, the only problem I have seen is that we are running at the upper edge of our memory. I just have way too many features added here. Most are not essential just make things a bit more fun. I really don't want to do away with any of them so first I plan to pay for some more memory. I also need to optimize the server for our forum. This is a lot different than when we were on a shared server. On a shared server, you could keep going until your site started having a negative affect on other sites hosted on the same server. So if you were running high memory, it was not an issue until they noticed that you were hogging the resources and then they would just shut down your site until you got it under control. Now, we have "X" amount of memory and it is ours and does not affect anybody else. The difference is though, if you exceed it, you will just get an out of memory error and can't access the site. We are way to close for comfort. I think that optimizing the server will help a lot, adding some memory will give us some cushion. I'm very inexperienced in managing a server at the root level. Optimizing scripts, php, MySql, etc. This is going to be a real learning curve.

I don't think it's the server. Probably just something in the pipeline between you and the location of the new server. It's open very fast for me. I'm at a hotel in Berkley, WV right now with a very poor connection. So poor in fact that I'm checking out of this one this morning and going to try another hotel just up the road. My WIFI is showing NO SIGNAL and this thread still opened in 2.1 seconds. You might want to go to start, run and type CMD in the box and hit enter. When the window opens up, you can type ping venturerider.org and it will show you where any delay might be but there really isn't much you can do about it.
-
How is the site working on this server? I've had no problems at all. Seems about as fast as we could hope for with all the modifications I am running. If it's still slow for you, then I have likely overdone some of the additions. Things like "who has read a thread", "who is browsing a thread", even our flags and etc. suck up a lot of server resources.

Orrin, I agree with much of what you said and it was Manheim that we used also. She said though that he is offering her Manheim for trade off STICKER PRICE. That is greedy dealer who is not trying to earn her business.

I know what you mean. It is frustrating. Some dealers will use Kelly Blue Book but then deduct for every little blemish they can find or make up. More dealers use the NADA book but by far, the majority use the real time auction info. When I worked for a Chevy dealer, we always looked them up on the auction site. It is a dealer only subscription service and you can see what a model with similar miles sold for that week. Very up to date. The problem with that is that you really don't know what those looked like. They give a basic rating but I've seen them vary widely. The other thing is, on a late model vehicle like yours, they are likely going to sell it on their used car lot and NOT take it to the auction. They try to buy at auction prices just in case they end up sitting on it too long and decide to move it via auction. I don't blame you. I wouldn't trade it unless I could find a dealer that is more hungry. Be prepared though because I've found that most use the same general rules. NO WAY though should they be offering you auction price and refusing to come off sticker on theirs.

What is "Surging" with regards to the tape desk?
Freebird replied to GigaWhiskey's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
No, that is not the same as surging. Your's is reversing. That is what happens when you get to the end of a tape and the tension triggers the auto-reverse. It very well could be a bad cassette adapter. I had that happen once when using a tape adapter for an XM radio. I went with a different adapter and it stopped happening. Otherwise, it is likely a weak spring in the deck. -
The LEDs should affect the trailer. There is not a lot to check. You have confirmed that colors are correct. You need to make very sure that you have good connections at your splice. It is very possible that you got a bad Modulite unit. Unfortunately, a lot of people have gotten faulty units. There seems to be a problem with their quality control.

Don't ever be sorry for letting me know about problems. I may not ever know otherwise. I want the site to work the best that it can.
