  1. I do not agree that anybody should stay away from the Michelin. I think they are a great tire. Squidley did crash after a rear tire blowout but it was determined that he ran over something that damage the tire. I am trying Avons this time so that I can compare the two but was very pleased with my last set of Michelin Commanders.
  2. You trouble maker. I HOPE this doesn't somehow get turned into a political debate. I DID go and sign it though.
  3. Hey..I have a carbtune. You are welcome to come by any time. Well...I should say any weekend as I'm often on the road during the week.

Sounds like AT&T is going to adjust the price. Not the way you had hoped though. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,365347,00.html
  5. Just ride up to my house one weekend and we do it. Only takes maybe 30 minutes or so.
  6. I always just use a long/thin screwdriver and gently pry them sideways and they just pop off. On the RSV, the screws are phillips.
  7. See this thread. It has everything you will need to know. Very simple to do. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17675
  8. A couple of months ago I got a call from supposedly a collection agency. They claimed to be trying to collect money that I owed Verizon for my telephone service. I knew that I didn't owe any money and told the guy that I would contact Verizon to find out what was going on. He was very rude and told me that Verizon had sold the past due account to the collection agency and contacting them would do no good. He demanded that I give him a credit card number to settle the account NOW. I told him where to go of course but then did call Verizon and as I already knew, owed them nothing.

  10. There really is no specific model number for the Venture. There are MANY headsets out there that will work. Check out http://www.sierra_mc.com as they are great to deal with and have about as good of prices as you'll find anywhere. You can spend anywhere from $60.00 to well over $200.00. Which one is best depends upon how you use them. If primarily for communications, just go with the cheapest ones. If you really like your music, you need to do some more research. I've recently purchased and am so far sold on the Edsets and will be placing an order for a group purchase early next week. There is another thread on that. They will cost you closer to the $200.00 mark but if music sound quality is your main priority, I think they are the way to go.
  11. All in good fun my friend. Not NEARLY as bad as the first gen against second gen ragging. I don't think that there is anybody here who truly cares what kind of bike a person rides. I know that I don't. I ride the RSV because it happens to fit me best. I can tell you for a fact, if the Wing fit me better then that is what I would be riding. So...please just take it all in stride. Sure don't want you getting annoyed and leaving us. You are family, regardless of what you ride.
  12. I agree about the Metzler's. I used to run them on my Honda Shadow and later on my Harley FXRD and was very pleased with them. Something has changed though. The excuse they keep giving is that they are being run under inflated. Guess what? I don't care. If somebody screws up and runs them under inflated, they should wear out faster but should NOT come apart. Other tires don't. I won't be running them either. As for buying tires. I buy mine from SWMOTO. They offer good prices, free shipping if you buy a pair and fast shipping. You can spend hours searching and may be able to save a couple of bucks but it won't be much and they have been good to VentureRider having donated tires a couple of times to various projects that we have done for members. I bought new Avons for front and rear a few weeks ago. Price was right at $250.00 for the pair and that included delivery. I was happy enough with that price.
  13. Last months issue of Consumer Reports had a pretty good review of laptops. I was a bit surprised to see that though Apple had the highest customer support satisfaction, they also had the highest incident of repair.
  14. HEY..this is MY story and I reserve the right to slant it as I see fit.
  15. Thanks folks. I corrected my first post. Sorry about the typo.
  16. As some of you know, we are hoping to give away another Bushtec trailer as the grand price at our International Rally in Ontario. Have you bought your tickets yet? Whether or not we are able to give away the trailer will depend upon whether or not we sell enough tickets to purchase the trailer. We simply cannot lose money to do it. On the other hand, we are not trying to MAKE any money either, just breaking even will be fine. As they did last year, Bushtec is selling us the trailer at a DEEPLY discounted price so this is a great deal for us and will be for you too if you are the winner. So...if you have not purchased your raffle tickets and wish to do so, please don't wait until you get to the Rally. Tickets are $10.00 each or 3 for $25.00 and can be purchased via PayPal to reinyrooster@hotmail.com More information about the trailer (your choice of two models) and other rally information is available at http://www.venturerider.org/irally/
  17. I have never had to replace the bearings but they do need to be re-packed if never done. Yamaha is very stingy with the grease on these things, just as they are with the rear ends. You would have to completely remove the forks to change the bearings but you can get by with just dropping them about 3 or 4 inches if you just want to re-pack and torque them. In this case, you can remove the upper one to repack it and just repack the bottom one in place. You can get to it once you drop the fork about 3 inches.
  18. I'm really sorry we didn't have some time to just sit down and visit Carl. As for next year, forget the trailer and tools. What we REALLY need is for somebody to bring Harpoons. We'll get those pond monsters.
  19. Watch out there my friend...let me tell you the TRUTH...Maintenance day is on a Saturday right? But those first gens are so slow that one (from CANADA) didn't make it here until Sunday morning.
  20. Bucheron, I think that as Mariner Fan says, the confusion is coming from the fact that the adapter plugs right into a 12 volt receptacle. That does not mean that the unit is actually 12 volts. If you look at the small print on the radio, it will actually tell you what the voltage is. The voltage reducer is built into the plug at the end of the cable. The only time any sort of adapter is needed is when people cut the end off the cable in order to wire it in direct and not use the 12 volt plug. A lot of people cut the end off and wire it in direct to a 13 volt source inside the fairing, in that case, you need some sort of adapter to reduce the voltage back down. The way that I did it, which is very easy, is that I just went to Walmart and bought a 12 volt extension cable that has a plug on one end and receptacle on the other. I cut the plug off and wired that end right into the 12 volt source. I then just plugged the standard plug that came with the Sirius into the new receptacle inside the fairing. Cheaper than buying the power adapter that does the same thing.
  21. Vinny, There is NO WAY that you are responsible for dropping your bike. If ANYBODY owes anything to the dropped bike club, it will be SAM!!! There is NO DOUBT IN MY MIND that it was her fault. If I had to guess, I would guess that she had given you a LIST of things to do when you get home and you were trying to read it at the same time. That woman is trouble...TROUBLE I tell you.
  22. I think I read that V7Goose is planning to be at yours. If so, pick his brain for ideas. He was here and saw the chaos that can ensue. If yours turns out like mine and you do it every year, you will find it growing larger and larger from year to year. Maybe there won't be TOO many this year so you will get broken in gently. Kent has some good thoughts on how to make it better I think.
  23. Sorry I am so late in replying to this but sorry to hear that this came to a head so quickly but am glad to hear that it is being taken care of. Our prayers too are going out to Bob and Becky and hope that the surgery is a success and the healing and rehab goes well.
  24. I am finally starting to catch my breath just a bit. Thank all of you so much for showing up and making the day a huge success. It seems to grow a bit each year and Eileen and I really enjoy doing this for all of you. My biggest regret is that I never have time to visit and get to know each of you the way I would like to. This thing has grown to the point that I am now going to have to try and figure out a way to organize it a bit better. V7Goose and I were talking about it late Saturday night and he had some good ideas on how I might be able to do that. We were both afraid that some of you didn't get things done to your bike that you would like to and it bothers me that any of you came with expectations of getting things done that we didn't get to. We will try to do better in the future. I think that if we get organized and started earlier in the morning, get some lanes set up for different jobs and just generally organize it better, we can be much more productive. It would be great to get everything done earlier in the day and then actually have time to do a nice group ride to cap things off. At any rate, I had a lot of fun and hope that you did to. I hope that us catering the lunch was OK with everybody. We have always cooked hamburgers and etc. in the past but it's just getting too big for that to be practical. I actually went riding yesterday. GaryN is still here in the Space Shuttle so he and I jumped on the bikes yesterday and got a couple of hundred miles in. It was a bittersweet evening as he sincerely felt that he needed to go back and visit the site of his accident. We did that and he was even able to meet with one of the paramedics that was on the scene of the accident. Like I said, it was a bittersweet ride but something that Gary felt he really needed to do in order to continue the healing process and was another step in finding some closure. Even with that, we found some nice back country roads and it was a great ride. I am thankful that I was able to do this with him and felt very honored that he asked me to accompany him. Now it's time to get back to work. STILL not sure where I'm going this week and have about decided to not leave until late this evening or even early tomorrow morning. Sorry I got so behind with my emails and PMs but am about to get caught up now. Again, thanks to those of you who attended, I hope you all had a nice time and now it's time to start planning for NEXT YEAR.
  25. I'm truly sorry but have just been BURIED the past few weeks. No excuses though. I just emailed to order 2 T-Shirts and will be registering for the rally just as soon as I get through this weekend. I hope that a lot of people are just dragging their fee like I have been. It's getting too close, we should all be registered by now. Come on folks, we are going to have a great time and I would love to seem a LOT of our good friends there.
