HEY...I was in "business mode"...I DID take off my tie though. I am in Hamburg, NY this week and took the opportunity to stop by and pay a visit to BongoBob. I truly enjoyed the visit. Bob is a very nice guy. I also had the privilege of meeting his lovely wife. He got the better end of THAT deal. We went out and had some lunch and then stopped by the Yamaha dealer that was across the street. They also happen to be a dealer for the Can Am Spyder. The salesman asked if I had ever ridden one and then offered to let me do so. I couldn't turn down that opportunity. I have to say, these things are a total BLAST to ride. I was very impressed with the way that it rode, handled and the power. It has a 990 Bombadier Rotax motor and he told me it makes 104HP. It has plenty of power for whatever type of riding you like to do. I was surprised to look down and see that I was running 70 MPH at one point and thought I was running about 55. I'm thinking that I want one. I KNOW that I can't afford another toy. So....not for me at this time. I really think though that if you added the tour pack, a trailer hitch, stereo system, CB, and a fairing...I think it would actually be a LOT of fun to tour on.

I've seen that guy but can't remember the name...darn it...I really need a picnic too.

WOW...too many stories lately about deer and now we have to add pigs to our list. Glad you came out as well as you did. Those little 200 lb. piggies are pretty solid.

Here are a couple like I think you are talking about. http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=CWI%2D04%2D167 Protac also makes one but their website seems to be a bit screwed up right now. They don't show a picture of it like the used to. If you email them they will probably send you a picture. http://www.protac.net/

I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. I know how draining it is on both of you. Our prayers will continue. Please let us know if there is anything you need.

Sorry my friend but if you are looking for a Fram supporter, I can't help you. Yes, I HAVE used them a couple of times but I have seen a number of reports of them failing and haven't used them in a while now. I used a Napa Gold filter until I read some great reports on the Walmart filter. I've also read that the Walmart filter has been re-designed and may not be as good as it once was but for now, I'm still using it. I just changed my oil and installed a new one last weekend.

There is a spacer on the brake side of the wheel. It goes into the hub. I would remove it before taking the wheel in because it will fall out and possibly get lost.

radio stoped working
Freebird replied to Just-Jack's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sounds like you need to split the fairing, unplug all the big connectors and add a bit of dielectric grease. Since the bike is so new, you may want to let the dealer handle it but I just don't have the patience for that. -
I'll just keep a file for BradT. He's always the one with problems.

Bob, I'm in Hamburg, NY right now, just south of Buffalo on a business trip. I don't know how far you are from here and I'm pretty pressed for time but if it's not too far, I may try to stop by and say hello. PM me your address and I'll plug it into my streets program and see what I can do.

OK Brad, last night I was trying to duplicate your problem on my end but didn't think I was able to. I had tried to go to the m.photobucket site that you were seeing. Well apparently it set a cookie in my browser because this morning, when I tried to go to Photobucket, I was was getting re-directed to the mobile site just as you are. I just went to tools and cookies and did a search for "photo". That found about 7 different cookies for photobucket. I deleted those cookies and now it is working properly again. So, clear your cookies and you will probably be OK. If you don't want to clear them all, you can do the search for "photo" as I did and just clear all photobucket cookies that come up.

Yes, mine doesn't say that and the images are crystal clean with Firefox and with IE7. It looks like you are viewing a mobile version which would be downsized for a mobile type screensize. The it's trying to blow it up to regular size. That is why you are getting the pixelation and etc.

I just tried it with Firefox and with IE7 and am not having a problem with either one. I kind of think that Buddy is on the right track and that it might be a setting in your browser.

Dylan is 15. This will be his first longer trip with me. I think he will enjoy it though.

I've had the Khromewerks in the past. The fit and finish is very nice. I like the way that they cover the clamps with the integrated heat shield. I also like that you could turn the tips for different looks. I had mine turned out. BUT...unless they have changed the design, they do have to be repacked. Mine burned out after about a year I think. They used a fiberglass type packing. That being said, I liked them better than the Bubs or the Samsons. The Samsons have a permanent baffle and actually doesn't need to be repacked but they were LOUD.

Just made reservations at the Comfort Inn in Kitchener. Eileen will not make this one so my son Dylan is coming along for the ride. I would like to have stayed in one of the cabins but I have FREE rooms at Comfort and that is a strong motivator. We will not be arriving until sometime Tuesday afternoon and look forward to seeing everybody. Anybody else staying at the Comfort Inn?

final drive whine questions
Freebird replied to sleadhed's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would be very surprised if they changed anything. If they did, it would sure be interesting to know what they changed. It just seems strange that they would do anything major in what may well be the final year of this model after letting it go for 8 years. I don't have excessive noise on my '99 either so I would be more inclined to believe that it is just luck of the draw.- 16 replies

There are a lot of deer in my area too. I don't have deer whistles. I've never had one jump out in front of me either so I guess that proves it works if you DON'T have them.

Well, I'll continue testing tonight but I am now sitting in from of a small diner where I just had lunch and they have free WIFI. I am using IE7 and even have the advanced property "display a notification about every script error" checked. I've clicked on several things including "Today's Posts", "New Posts" and also just clcking on about 20 random posts and so far, I've had no problem with pages not loading and have gotten no errors about "loaded with errors" or any others.

Well, I honestly think that your statement should have been IN MY OPINION "synthetic sucks". I can respect you having such an opinion but that does not make it a fact. My experience has been exactly the opposite of yours. I find that my bike and also the '88 that I had before both shift MUCH better. Not so much when the oil is new but after it gets a thousand miles or so on it. Also, I hear much more valve noise and etc. with standard oil. I'm not trying to change your mind but just let others know that IN MY OPINION synthetic oil does NOT suck.
-
BUT...was it a motorcycle specific synthetic? If it was just an automotive oil, it was likely "energy conserving" and they can cause slippage. I use only motorcycle specific Mobil 1. Riding two up and pulling a Bushtec trailer that my wife is very good at overloading, I've never had a problem with clutch slippage.

Sorry to hear it. I have had absolutely zero problems since that one day early last week. I made some changes to the site and server after than and have had no issues at all. The server log is also showing no errors of any kind since then. I use Firefox and haven't tried it with IE but will do so tonight when I am checked into yet another hotel.

Did you check the voltage with the bike off or running? Horns do draw quite a lot of current and I can see the voltage dropping pretty good if the bike was not running. I don't think it would drop quite so much if you had it running though. On the back side of the horn I think is a little screw that you can turn to adjust the horn. I've seen several where that screw was tightened down too tight and would not allow the horn to work. You might try backing it out and then adjusting it while trying the horn. The bottom line though is that the stock horns leave a lot to be desired. Many of us have replaced them with either air horns or a high quality electric.
