Well, I honestly think that your statement should have been IN MY OPINION "synthetic sucks". I can respect you having such an opinion but that does not make it a fact. My experience has been exactly the opposite of yours. I find that my bike and also the '88 that I had before both shift MUCH better. Not so much when the oil is new but after it gets a thousand miles or so on it. Also, I hear much more valve noise and etc. with standard oil. I'm not trying to change your mind but just let others know that IN MY OPINION synthetic oil does NOT suck.

BUT...was it a motorcycle specific synthetic? If it was just an automotive oil, it was likely "energy conserving" and they can cause slippage. I use only motorcycle specific Mobil 1. Riding two up and pulling a Bushtec trailer that my wife is very good at overloading, I've never had a problem with clutch slippage.

Sorry to hear it. I have had absolutely zero problems since that one day early last week. I made some changes to the site and server after than and have had no issues at all. The server log is also showing no errors of any kind since then. I use Firefox and haven't tried it with IE but will do so tonight when I am checked into yet another hotel.

Did you check the voltage with the bike off or running? Horns do draw quite a lot of current and I can see the voltage dropping pretty good if the bike was not running. I don't think it would drop quite so much if you had it running though. On the back side of the horn I think is a little screw that you can turn to adjust the horn. I've seen several where that screw was tightened down too tight and would not allow the horn to work. You might try backing it out and then adjusting it while trying the horn. The bottom line though is that the stock horns leave a lot to be desired. Many of us have replaced them with either air horns or a high quality electric.

I guess I'm not 100% sure if I am seeing it or not. There is a very slight fuzziness to the text but the pictures seem to open the proper size and look OK. Are you seeing this on all of the Photo Bucket site or just in our albums? I don't know of any settings that would affect this so it must be an issue with them.

Yep...there are some that don't like synthetics at all but I've been using Mobil 1 motorcycle specific in my '99 since '99 and about 2,000 miles. Wouldn't use anything else. I've never had a big problem with the whine either so can't tell you if it helps with that.

Well heck...I've had a terrible time this year trying to determine if I could even make it. Looks like I'll be there but I think my son is coming with me this time as Eileen won't be able too. I'll get registered later today but count us in for two at the dinner. We probably won't arrive until Tuesday night though.

Time to grease Clutch Hub Drive Pins
Freebird replied to jryan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
and YES....it really should be covered under warranty because there is a TSB on it. Some dealers fight it, some just jump on it and get it done. -
Is it the fast silver or the dark pink? Wonder if BradT will see this.

There was actually an article in Popular Science about two months ago about a new steam engine that a guy has patented. He already has contracts with some yard equipment manufacturers. Nothing automotive yet. It doesn't use batteries but does use a small gasoline motor and superheat water. According to the article, it was very fuel efficient.

Yea...I remember doing that when I was a lot younger...me and this girl spun the bottle and then....uh.....never mind....

LOL...yea...I'll have to admit that the number 4 has been the biggest seller in that product line. I don't work on commission though so it really hasn't helped me personally. Actually, we sell a lot of the changeable letters but it's a very small part of our business. A lot of the stations have gone to the electronic signs.

Come on now folks, let's not turn this into a debate about which party is to blame, which president is to blame, etc. A blind hog could have seen this coming 40 years ago and nobody on either side has done anything.

No problem. I'll put it out now so that I don't forget it. Old age is a terrible thing. -

Thanks for the suggestion. I copied it to the tech library but only to one place as a new entry. -
A question about radio antenna
Freebird replied to Oldseadog's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You do not need a special antenna for the radio. As for adding a CB, you can try to find all the various parts needed to add a factory CB...you will have to resort to Ebay to do that and it may take awhile and is a decent sized job. The other option would be to add a J&M unit that simply mounts to the handlebars. In either case, you will need to add a second antenna for the CB or use some combination antenna with a splitter designed for that purpose. You can find them at http://www.sierra-mc.com -
Could you give us a link of one that is doing that?

Intermittent Radio Channel Selection
Freebird replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I don't have an answer for you but mine did the same thing last year while in Colorado. Eileen and I got caught in some very heavy rain one day and that is when it happened to me. I had actually forgotten about it. I had every intention of trying to open it up and run a bead of silicone or something around it to ensure that it is sealed good. After we got out of the rain and things dried up, it worked fine and hasn't happened since. -

The problem is, people on BOTH SIDES of this issue do not agree with much of what you just said. That's OK though but the bigger problem is that there are a few folks that seem to take those disagreements to heart and it has turned into nothing but nasty and sarcastic comments back and forth. That is what I don't want to see and that is what a few cannot seem to refrain from doing. As for the second gens being used mostly for cruising down the freeways, you need to get out and ride with some of us. From what you say, you would be very surprised.
