  1. HEY...I wasn't saying anything bad about that group, just that I didn't think it was what he was asking about. But you KNOW that.......you just like I agree...check them all out and have fun.
  2. Well I tell you, I've been riding the '99 since May of '99. I am FINALLY getting somewhat in the mood for a new bike but am waiting to get some idea of what Yamaha does. I am really hoping for some version of the VMAX engine in a new Venture but I also love the cruiser styling. If they go with the first gen or Goldwing style then that will eliminate the Venture from my list. That will leave me with only a couple of choices. The Harley Ultra (if they do something about the heat problem) or possibly the Triumph Rocket III touring (if they would finish the job and add the trunk, fairing, etc.)
  3. The others have pretty much answered your question and I agree. They throw in a few more avoidance maneuvers and some more emergency stopping. The biggest thing to me though is that you take it on your own bike. There is a lot of difference between the beginners course where we used 250 Hondas and then taking the advanced course on my RSV.
  4. OK....I posted long ago about a GREAT image resizer "powertool" that is the best and easiest I've ever used for quick resizing of images to post them here and in the pic gallery. Unfortunately, Microsoft did not release this tool for Windows Vista. So, I went searching for something for you Vista users and found the following program that supposedly works the same way. Now I haven't tested this because I don't use Vista but some of you who do might want to give it a try and report back. Note: I removed the original link to this program because I am now getting an "attack site" warning from there. Here is another that I found though that works exactly the same as the XP version of the image resizer. http://sourceforge.net/projects/phototoysclone/
  5. I may be wrong because I am just assuming and we ALL know what that means. I assumed though that he was talking about the Yamaha Star Touring chapters.
  6. Just ran across this company. I've never seen them mentioned here before and was wondering if anybody knows anything about them. They are a Canadian company. http://saddlebagsbytalisman.com/index.php
  7. Well, Pinwall is a business. Not just somebody parting out a bike for some extra money. I have been to their place and was impressed with the operation. Unlike many salvage yards, they bring a bike in and immediately tear it completely down and have all the parts well organized and stored inside. Nothing ever sits outside in the weather. They are not a "sell it for what it will bring" outfit but I think their prices are fair. Usually at LEAST 50% off new and often more than that.
  8. Try this one. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=496
  9. Kent, I don't know what they cost new but Pinwall has a set of them for 49.95. Didn't look real close at the condition. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-XVZ1200-REAR-SADDLEBAG-CRASH-BAR-SET_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713Q2em153Q2el1262QQcategoryZ10066QQihZ003QQitemZ130219531267QQrdZ1
  10. I have copied this to the tech library also. Great modification.
  11. From the service manual. A.C. Magneto Generator F4T655/Mitsubuishi 14V 30 AMP at 5,000 RPM
  12. Well I will get an estimate from a professional first. Colorrite does offer too clears in rattle cans for their basecoats though. One is regular and the other is a catalyzed product where you mix it and then put it in the spray container that they provide with it. That is what I was wondering from Kent, which one he used.
  13. Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I have to go out of town again tomorrow morning. Time to get back to work. I'm headed to Cincinnati for the week. I think I'll pull it off today and stop by the local body shop on the way out of town and get a quote from him. If it's too high, I will probably order the Colorrite paint and try it myself. Kent, thanks for your excellent write-up. Which Colorrite clear did you use? They offer a regular clear and a three part catalyst clear.
  14. Nope, wasn't me and I am NOT a lover of Goop products. I mean...love...it's such a STRONG word. Actually, I don't know that I have ever used Goop but it may be great. I have used Gorilla glue and it seems OK.
  15. hmmm.......you know me pretty well.
  16. I took the beginners class about 12 years ago and then the advanced class a few years later. Both are well worth doing and highly recommended.
  17. Ok folks, Eileen and I got home yesterday. Now I will start thinking about repairing the new scratch on top of my saddle bag. A few questions for any of you who have done this. The scratch is not real deep but deep enough that I can feel it. I may be able to sand it out but am not sure. Should I even try or should I used some type of filler? If so, what would be the best thing to fill it with? I will probably just order some matching paint from Colorrite. I think that one of their aerosol cans would be enough but from the customer reviews that I read there, the aerosol clear coat that they sell does not work well. The reports are that it does not spray well from the cans and there is a lot of problem with bubbles, uneven spray, etc. Have any of you ever tried it? Would I be better off just ordering the pint size non-aerosol and primer and having it shot at a bodyshop?
  18. Here is the quick method. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=511
  19. I'm a little confused by this question. The valve stem is just beside the seat, is that the one you are talking about? I've never had a problem getting to it.
  20. The most common cause I've heard is over tightening of that screw in the same area. For a quick fix, if Plastex is not quickly available to you, JB Weld on the inside where it won't show will do the job.
  21. The Diamond R links are somewhere around 1/4" shorter. I know it sounds wrong but if you look at the way the suspension is configured, it will make sense to you. Shorter lengths raise the height of the bike.
  22. That's a great offer but I would NEVER do it. Thanks though. Not going to happen at this time. I was about ready to pull the trigger early this year but regardless of you saying your's isn't bad, I've read WAY too many reports about the excess heat. I'll wait to see what the offer for '09 and what Yamaha offers for '09 or '10. Have you priced these things? Doesn't look like they sell just the lid and the entire bag is about $800.00. That $90.00 sounds pretty cheap.
  23. Yesterday Eileen and I rode 550. We left Parkersburg and went over to Athens and then caught 550 from Athens to Marietta. Very nice curvy road though a bit rough in spots. Then took 7 back down to Parkersburg, WV. Nice ride but wasn't very long. Going to do the covered bridge scenic ride on 26 though Wayne National Forrest today.
  24. Hey...thanks for the kind thought but I would rather get it repaired I think. Even knowing that it is scratched under the covers would still bother me. I'm sure I can find something. Thanks though.
  25. No, it was not covered and I seldom ever cover my bike. Looks like that is something that I need to start doing though.
