  1. VERY nice. Looks like it came from the factory that way...well....better actually.
  2. Folks, I would LOVE to give ALL PGR members the medal. I realize that nobody does it for personal recognition but I know that more than a few of our members have become aware of the PGR due to the little medals beside our members names. It's a great way to help spread the word. The fact is though, I have absolutely no way of know if you are a member of the PGR unless you send me a PM and tell me. Also, I awarded the medal to a member once and he got upset about it. He said the he didn't do it for the personal recognition and didn't think it was right. Like I said, while I do like to recognize those of you who are members, even more important is the fact that others become aware of the group due to those little medals. So, since then, I only give them to members when they request them. Please do so if you are a member.
  3. OK folks, I decided to start a new thread here instead of filling the contest thread with a lot of new discussion. The contest will be over tomorrow morning and sometime tomorrow evening, I will randomly pick a winner from all of the folks that posted their suggestions. The winner will be determined in a totally random draw and not at all based upon your recommendation for the location. Now, about that. You have all offered some great suggestions as to where to have the rally and some very strong reasons to have it there. There is one thing though that I read a few times and feel that some clarification is needed. There were at least a couple of posts that said something along the order of "we accommodated the members in the northeast this year so it should be in the west next year". Please understand, we didn't "accommodate" anybody. The reason that this years rally was held in Ontario, Canada was based on a couple of things. It was a beautiful location and a great place for a rally but the MAIN reason was that just after the Ft. Collins rally last year, a group of members from the Kitchener area stepped up and said "WE WILL DO IT". NOBODY else made that offer. They worked hard on it and just did a FANTASTIC job. That is why it was held where it was and I have no regrets about it. All your posts and suggestions for next years rally are sincerely appreciated. So, the next step is to find a group of people in one of those great areas who are willing to take the lead and make this happen. Folks, it's a LOT of hard work putting these things together. Arranging a central gathering place, host hotels, campgrounds, arranging for a wrap-up dinner, arranging for breakfast each morning for those who want it, contacting vendors for prize donations, designing and having shirts made up, collecting the money for shirts, registrations, etc. If you want to know how much work it is, just talk to Squidley and his team or Reiny and his team. So, tomorrow I will look at all the suggestions in more depth than I have so far. I saw many that I thought "YEA...that would be a GREAT place". There are enough suggestions there to choose a location for several years. Please don't be upset if your suggestion does not end up being the chosen place for 2009. My decision will be based upon not only location but WHO steps up and volunteers to do it. If nobody steps up to the place, then I will do it myself but if that ends up being the case then you can pretty much expect it to be held somewhere in Ohio. There are some great locations and great riding in Ohio and if I have to do it, it will simply have to be somewhere that I have time to visit, explore and make arrangements. Most likely somewhere close to Amish country and maybe Mohican State Park. http://www.mohicanstatepark.org/ Just some things for you to think about. I would really like to see it a bit more central. I still think that the Eureka Springs area, The Hub or somewhere in the vicinity of Branson, MO would be a great central location but I can't arrange a rally there from Ohio. As always, your comments are encouraged.
  4. Another biker died. Let's take a moment to say a little prayer for his friends and family and end the political talk already.
  5. Well folks...if you haven't posted your suggestion/recommendation here..time is running out. This contest is going to officially end at 8:00 A.M. tomorrow morning.
  6. These mugs are now SOLD OUT. I will let you know if I decide to offer them again in the future. I have just ordered 72 of the VentureRider travel mugs. They went by up by $2.50 per mug from the supplier. They actually wanted $5.00 per mug more than last time but I finally negotiated it down to a $2.50 increase. Shipping has gone up some also so the price this time will be $24.50 within the USA and $25.50 to Canada. These prices include shipping. Some may agree and others not but this is the best mug I have ever owned. They claim that they will keep your drink hot for up to 6 hours and I can tell you for sure that it keeps my coffee plenty hot for at least 4 hours. Folks, this will possibly be the last time that I am able to get these mugs. They are a bit hard to find now and even Amazon shows the MoJOE to be "unavailable" and it says they do not know if and when they will have them again. There are a few places that I've found them online but only one place that I've found them that will print them with our logo. So....this may be your last opportunity to get one. I only order 72 because there just didn't seem to be that much interest but a few people really one so I went ahead and got them ordered. They should ship to me in about 12 days and then I will immediately get them out to you. Please start paying when you can. You can pay via PayPal to dk_nelson@verizon.net Please note that there is an underscore between dk and nelson and that the email address is verizon.net, NOT venturerider.org You do NOT need a PayPal account to pay via PayPal. You can pay with credit card, debit card or E-Check through PayPal without an account. I will try to keep you updated on how many are sold and how many are still available as we go. SOLD OUT!
  7. HEY...I wasn't saying anything bad about that group, just that I didn't think it was what he was asking about. But you KNOW that.......you just like I agree...check them all out and have fun.
  8. Well I tell you, I've been riding the '99 since May of '99. I am FINALLY getting somewhat in the mood for a new bike but am waiting to get some idea of what Yamaha does. I am really hoping for some version of the VMAX engine in a new Venture but I also love the cruiser styling. If they go with the first gen or Goldwing style then that will eliminate the Venture from my list. That will leave me with only a couple of choices. The Harley Ultra (if they do something about the heat problem) or possibly the Triumph Rocket III touring (if they would finish the job and add the trunk, fairing, etc.)
  9. The others have pretty much answered your question and I agree. They throw in a few more avoidance maneuvers and some more emergency stopping. The biggest thing to me though is that you take it on your own bike. There is a lot of difference between the beginners course where we used 250 Hondas and then taking the advanced course on my RSV.
  10. OK....I posted long ago about a GREAT image resizer "powertool" that is the best and easiest I've ever used for quick resizing of images to post them here and in the pic gallery. Unfortunately, Microsoft did not release this tool for Windows Vista. So, I went searching for something for you Vista users and found the following program that supposedly works the same way. Now I haven't tested this because I don't use Vista but some of you who do might want to give it a try and report back. Note: I removed the original link to this program because I am now getting an "attack site" warning from there. Here is another that I found though that works exactly the same as the XP version of the image resizer. http://sourceforge.net/projects/phototoysclone/
  11. I may be wrong because I am just assuming and we ALL know what that means. I assumed though that he was talking about the Yamaha Star Touring chapters.
  12. Just ran across this company. I've never seen them mentioned here before and was wondering if anybody knows anything about them. They are a Canadian company. http://saddlebagsbytalisman.com/index.php
  13. Well, Pinwall is a business. Not just somebody parting out a bike for some extra money. I have been to their place and was impressed with the operation. Unlike many salvage yards, they bring a bike in and immediately tear it completely down and have all the parts well organized and stored inside. Nothing ever sits outside in the weather. They are not a "sell it for what it will bring" outfit but I think their prices are fair. Usually at LEAST 50% off new and often more than that.
  14. Try this one. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=496
  15. Kent, I don't know what they cost new but Pinwall has a set of them for 49.95. Didn't look real close at the condition. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-XVZ1200-REAR-SADDLEBAG-CRASH-BAR-SET_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713Q2em153Q2el1262QQcategoryZ10066QQihZ003QQitemZ130219531267QQrdZ1
  16. I have copied this to the tech library also. Great modification.
  17. From the service manual. A.C. Magneto Generator F4T655/Mitsubuishi 14V 30 AMP at 5,000 RPM
  18. Well I will get an estimate from a professional first. Colorrite does offer too clears in rattle cans for their basecoats though. One is regular and the other is a catalyzed product where you mix it and then put it in the spray container that they provide with it. That is what I was wondering from Kent, which one he used.
  19. Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I have to go out of town again tomorrow morning. Time to get back to work. I'm headed to Cincinnati for the week. I think I'll pull it off today and stop by the local body shop on the way out of town and get a quote from him. If it's too high, I will probably order the Colorrite paint and try it myself. Kent, thanks for your excellent write-up. Which Colorrite clear did you use? They offer a regular clear and a three part catalyst clear.
  20. Nope, wasn't me and I am NOT a lover of Goop products. I mean...love...it's such a STRONG word. Actually, I don't know that I have ever used Goop but it may be great. I have used Gorilla glue and it seems OK.
  21. hmmm.......you know me pretty well.
  22. I took the beginners class about 12 years ago and then the advanced class a few years later. Both are well worth doing and highly recommended.
  23. Ok folks, Eileen and I got home yesterday. Now I will start thinking about repairing the new scratch on top of my saddle bag. A few questions for any of you who have done this. The scratch is not real deep but deep enough that I can feel it. I may be able to sand it out but am not sure. Should I even try or should I used some type of filler? If so, what would be the best thing to fill it with? I will probably just order some matching paint from Colorrite. I think that one of their aerosol cans would be enough but from the customer reviews that I read there, the aerosol clear coat that they sell does not work well. The reports are that it does not spray well from the cans and there is a lot of problem with bubbles, uneven spray, etc. Have any of you ever tried it? Would I be better off just ordering the pint size non-aerosol and primer and having it shot at a bodyshop?
  24. Here is the quick method. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=511
  25. I'm a little confused by this question. The valve stem is just beside the seat, is that the one you are talking about? I've never had a problem getting to it.
