Doesn't sound like you came through it in the greatest condition but...at least you are here to tell us about it. I'm truly sorry that it happened and hope that things heal as they should. I think that what happened to you can happen to most all of us at some time or another. It's easy to swept up in the scenery and etc. and only takes a couple of seconds for that to turn into a bad thing. Thanks for the reminder.

Great picture Allen. It catches him exactly the way I remember him. Always sporting that TShirt or one just like it in various colors.
-
Allen, Thanks for letting us know. I met and talked to Frank at several MTA rallies. Like you said, he was always easy to spot in those TShirts. Quiet a character and will be missed by many.

Come to think of it, I haven't heard anything from Zach in a while now. You might try sending him a PM. Here is his profile. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/member.php?u=3722 -
I'm going to guess that it wasn't their motorcycle specific oil that you asked about. The MX4T specifically states that is is formulated for wet clutch applications. http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil1_Racing_4T_10W-40.aspx I've used it in 4 different bikes since about 1999 and in my RSV since 1999 with no clutch problems.

OK folks, I just got words that the VentureRider Guardian bells will be shipped to me either tomorrow or Tuesday. Hopefully they will be here by the time I get home on Thursday and I can get them out to those of you who have ordered. Still plenty left if anybody wants one or more.

Backfiring after sync

Do you have a really good dealer that you trust 100%? I only ask because I've seen so many carbs that were WAY out after just being done by some dealers....too many dealers. I wish we lived closer so that I could check them for you.- 4 replies

I'll be honest. That was so long ago that I really don't remember now. I just know that I had it opposite of the way it should have been. I'm really sorry that I don't remember. I should have taken pictures. -
LOL....it's in the first post of this thread. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17406

The Hub is a motorcycle resort. It's also the location of the VentureRider International Rally in 2009. Here is a link to it. http://www.hubinfo.com/

I'm really sorry to hear about the accident. I always hate hearing about one of our own going down. As for the parts, that may be a tough one. Chances of finding a crashed '07 in that color without that part being damage will be tough. I know that Pinwall is parting out a blue '07 right now. He doesn't have that particular part listed in his Ebay store so odds are, it was damaged but it wouldn't hurt to give him a call. Here is the number. (330)879-9910 Tell him that Don Nelson from VentureRider sent you. That way he may raise the price.

About time you posted a picture of that thing. I love those old BSAs. Sure would love to have one to play with. Someday maybe.

I agree. I think the Wing would be the clear winner.

Well, it's not their first dealings with an Italian company. I've owned two Harley Sprints, both Italian made by Aermacchi. I don't know if Harley owned any part of that company or just subcontracted the small bikes to them.

Be concerned or not?

It's pretty normal. It usually indicates that at some time or another, there was too much oil put in during an oil change. If you fill it to the top mark of the site glass with the bike sitting level, that will ofte happen. About half way in the site glass is what you want. -
Yes, PayPal payment was good. Thanks.

This is the one that I use also.

I'm sorry but I would not use it. I think if you look on the bottle, you will see something that says "Energy Conserving" or something like that. That will be that it has friction modifiers and will likely cause your clutch to start slipping.

OK folks, I just ordered another 100 Guardian Bells. First come, First served. The cost to me went up just a bit due to the huge increase in raw metal prices but I can still hold the price the same as before. Please see this thread for pictures and ordering info. They are supposed to be shipped to me on Wednesday and I'll get them out to you as soon as I receive them. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17406

OK folks...I've started a Poll to find out how much interest there is and to get an idea of how many I should order. Look in the Polls topic area.

Member needs help with '83
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Folks, it's not for me. Michael said that he isn't real savvy about posting so I posted it for him. Here is a link to his profile, please contact him if you can help. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/member.php?u=2640 -
OK folks, I got an email from one of our members Michael F. Kerr. Michael lives in San Diego and is having a problem with is '83. Here is the message. His user name here is Michael F. Kerr so you can PM him at that name. My faithful "Black Beauty" is showing her age. She's an '83 gen 1. I've been plagued by an oil leak I finally traced to a leaking cam cover gasket. This was surprising, as the engine was just re-built a while back, and the cam cover seals were new. Long story short: As you know, each of the eight cam shaft hold down caps has a cast in, threaded, boss where the cover bolt threads in. On one cap, this boss is broken off, don't know why, although the aluminum isn't the best looking I've ever seen. A poor casting combined with age, I suspect. Another is stripped. I suspect it "popped" just as I let up on the torque wrench, and I missed it. Or maybe it was marginal, and heat expansion did the deed. So my question is: are you or any of the other riders aware of a Gen 1 engine being retired and "pieced out"? I looked at the online parts manual, and they, the caps, don't seem to appear as a seperate part...probably because the cam bore would have been line bored at the factory with the caps in place when the engine was built. So maybe someone knows of some laying around? If I can find a few I can get them sized here, and I've found very good steel inserts to re-thread all the existing 6mm holes.

Folks, I will order another supply of bells as soon as there is enough interest expressed. I need to order at LEAST 40 at a time though.
