  1. I will be even MORE diligent about taking care of my '99. It will need to last for a LONG time.
  2. Sorry to hear that you are having such problems. My '99 has never had a problem with head gaskets nor with the rear drive. I did crack the lower left shield and unfortunately, that is TOO common on these bikes. There are others here who have had some problems with the rear. It's not common but not completely unusual either. The head gasket problem seems to be isolated to the '07 model but should be find once repaired. Hope they get your issues resolved to your satisfaction. Most of us really love these bikes and have had few problems.
  3. I'm not sure how the height of mine compares to their sizes now but when I ordered it, I ordered 2" taller than stock so mine is pretty tall also.
  4. First of all, I'm very glad that you didn't lose control of the bike. Sounds like you did a great job in maintaining it in a very difficult situation. I've had my Cleaview for about 9 years. It was the second one that they ever made for the RSV because Rick Butler and I sent them a template and measurements as to how we would like to see it designed. Rick got the first one and then I requested some changes and got the second one that they made. Mine does have the vent. This is the second '99 that I've had it on and I've ridden in about every kind of weather there is and temps ranging from the low 100s to below freezing. So far, I've never had any kind of problems with it and after 9 years there are still no stress cracks of any kind. I hope that there ends up being a valid explanation as to why yours cracked. I also understand what you are saying about the slotted holes. I wonder though if you had the outer screws tight enough? I have worked on a couple of bikes for people where I found them to not be very tight. People are afraid to tighten them too much for fear of cracking the shield. While I agree that you have to be careful about tightening them down, they DO need to be tight. I tighten mine down pretty good and so far, have never cracked the shield. I honestly think that they are tight enough to hold it on if the center was to break. I may be wrong though. At any rate, I am sincerely glad that you are OK. For what its worth, if I ever wear out this shield, I will replace it with another Clearview but without the vent. I had made that decision already because I like the round push out vents better than the Goldwing style vent. I have the wing vent in the center and a round vent on each side of that one so mine would be very weak as opposed to just the center one. Still, no problems at this point.
  5. I don't have anything negative to say and I hope you love it. As for problems, I know that some of the earlier wings had some stator problems that required that the engine be pulled to replace it. I THINK is was the 1200 models but maybe somebody else here can say for sure.
  6. It was me that did an order for polished stainless covers with our names and etc. acid etched into them. It required a minimum order of 50 sets and I've not seen enough interest to do it again. Sorry. Yamaha does offer chrome hinge covers in their accessory catalog.
  7. You have all had to handle so much over the past weeks...I'm truly sorry to hear about Cindy's fall. I just pray that things will start turning around now. I think that is enough.
  8. Don't know what to add that hasn't been said. Losing a child has to be the most difficult thing that a person could ever face...to lose two?....Don't know what I would do. So sorry to hear this news and we will keep them in our prayers.
  9. Allen, If you are going by my write up in the second gen section, the mistake referred to in the manual only applies to the second gen. As far as I know, the procedure and screws shown in the first gen manual are correct.
  10. Gary, this news deeply saddens me. You have already been through so much, my heart truly hearts to here about this. You and your father and the rest of your family will certainly be in my prayers.
  11. I did some looking into this and it's just not possible at this time. At least, not within my realm of expertise.
  12. Looks like a nice turnout. Sure would have liked to have been there. Take care of yourself clay and thanks for what you do.
  13. Please join me in congratulating Poledar (Bill Darling) on the great news of his engagement and upcoming wedding. For so many of us, our love of riding is only enhanced by a person that we love sharing our joy. I'm very happy that Bill has found that special person. I hope she joins our site and becomes a part of our VentureRider family.
  14. I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said. It's hard hearing of a biker going down, especially when it is one of our family members here. 62 MPH on pavement is a hard crash and though it sounds like the injuries are plenty bad, I'm so thankful that the news is not even worse. We will keep in in our prayers.
  15. This has especially happened when riders have added the drivers backrest. Sure worth checking out.
  16. I'm jealous. Would LOVE to be there. Looks like you are off to a great start to a fantastic weekend.
  17. I've used Front Page a lot over the years. For somebody new to creating html pages, it is very easy to use. It can cause some problems though if you try to use some of the features included. You can end up with a page that will only display properly with Internet Explorer. Though Internet Explorer is still the number one browser used, there are a lot of people that use other browsers. I use Firefox almost exclusively but I do check any changes that I make to the site with IE also because that's what most of our members are using. Most of the changes and modifications that I make here are actually done with a text editor.
  18. In some states, the lemon laws cover both automobiles and motorcycles. I know for a fact that they do in Ohio and your bike may well qualify at this point. The downside is that it can take as long as 2 years to settle a lemon law case so that's not going to speed things up much.
  19. No, you do not need the headset to adjust the SWR. Just the meter and then you'll use the press to talk button on the handlebars.
  20. Isn't it amazing. Kind of like motorcycles huh? Everybody sees and hears them differently. I've tried the Alverez also and didn't think it was even in the same class as the Seagull. Here is a website that I like for acoustic/acoustic electric guitars. Do a search for different brands there and you'll find a lot of good opinions. Nice people for the most part. http://www.acousticguitar.com/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi
  21. No, it was built by me originally. It's been back and forth a few times with them editing it and then me changing it back. If you click the "history" tab from that page, you will see that I originally created it in August of '07.
  22. I LOVE my Seagull. They are a Canadian made guitar but you can find them at any Guitar Center. You get a LOT better guitar than what you pay for in my opinion. Here is a link to the ad at Guitar Center. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Seagull-25th-Anniversary-CW-Flame-Maple-EQ--Acoustic-Electric-Guitar-516403-i1392331.gc That is the 25th anniversary model. Mine is a cedar top, wild cherry back and sides with the cutaway and Godin QII electronics. About the 100.00 cheaper. You simply can't go wrong with a Seagull.
  23. It is really just not a very good search engine. I will do some experimenting with it and see if I can make it work better. In the meantime though, Buddy's suggestions works GREAT. That is why I added the "Google" search function a while back. Give it a try and I think you'll like it.
  24. OK folks, long ago I had implemented restrictions on how large signature pictures can be. The HUGE signatures eat up a ton of bandwidth and can really slow down a forum. The restriction got lost at some point during an upgrade. I have now re-implemented this feature and sig pictures now now not exceed 150 pixels tall. If you find that your sig is now cropped, you will just have to redo it.
  25. Yea, that is way to big for a sig picture. I thought I had limits in place so that wouldn't be possible but I must have lost them in an upgrade. I'll have to reset them.
