  1. Later this evening, I will be installing a new shield on my bike. I will test it for a while and then report back on my likes and dislikes. I will post a separate message later. I will say for now that I've been running a Clearview shield for about 9 years now and have been happy with it. This new one that I'm trying has been very popular with the Goldwing riders but they have just come out with a shield for the RSV. It is NOT cheap but the owner of the company has asked me to test one for him and then report honestly to the members here. That is what I will do. One thing that IS a plus is that all the bottom fastening points are holes, not slots.
  2. OOPS....sorry about that. I meant my OTHER left. YES...the second box is the lower RIGHT cowling. Thanks for the correction.
  3. I don't remember there being an inline fuse but there are two fuse boxes. One is behind the left side cover and the other is inside the lower left cowling/fairing.
  4. That's a nice area. Wish I had time to wander down that way. I'm sure you will enjoy it.
  5. hmmmm....what am I missing here. The sig looks fine from here.
  6. Well folks, looks like we need another reminder about political posts. I have deleted two threads that either started out as or turned into political discussions. Simply put, they are not welcome here. This was discussed and voted on by the membership long ago and it was overwhelmingly agreed upon that we simply do not need political discussions here. I understand how tempting it is with all that is going on right now in the world of politics. I have said it before though and will say it again. There are PLENTY of websites and discussion forums available if you want to argue about politics. This is NOT the place. I also want to comment on a post in one of the threads that I deleted. The post said something like "I thought that political discussions were not allowed. I guess that's only if you disagree with the admin". That statement is totally false and I am offended by it. I most certainly have strong political views but I try to be unbiased in the way that I moderate this site. No threads are ever deleted without much thought and when possible, discussion among the moderators. Many times a political type thread is posted and is not deleted immediately. The reason is that even though we do not wish to see political threads posted, if it happens, we will usually give it some time in case by some unknown miracle, it doesn't get nasty and turn into a debate between the right and the left. It has nothing to do with whether or not the admin agrees or disagrees with the poster. Perhaps we need to take a stronger stand and just realize that ANY political thread is going to turn into a nasty debate and delete them immediately upon one of the moderators seeing the post. Folks, we have very few rules here. We try to give as much leeway as possible in allowing discussions on many subjects. No political discussion is one of those rules. Please try to keep that in mind.
  7. If it's the cable, you can get replacement cables from http://www.sierra-mc.com If it is the connection in the headset though, I've never seen them successfully repaired. Not saying that it can't be done but I've had no luck.
  8. The one that shows the single filter, it appears that they are just using the wrong picture for their listing. That one would not work and I think is for the Royal Star. They say that both filters are included though so I am thinking that they are selling the right filters but using the wrong picture.
  9. Good, that's about the only options at this time. Glad it worked out.
  10. You have at least a couple of options. Both are in the UserCP. 1. Click on favorite smilies and choose only the ones you wish to use. 2. Click on "Edit Options"...scroll down to Miscellaneous Options and choose "basic" for your text editor.
  11. During the 9 years that I've owned my RSV, I have compared premium to regular a number of times. I have NEVER gotten better gas mileage running premium. Complete waste of money for me.
  12. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture. Here is a great article that shows the proper place for the spacer between the caliper and swing arm but not the spacer that I'm talking about. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=515 The one that I'm talking about goes right into the hub. It has a turned down side that should go in...against the bearing. If you put it in backwards, the tire WILL barely rub. I PROMISE you that it will. This is also something that you have to watch for if you pull your wheel and take it to the shop to have a tire mounted. The spacer will fall out and get lost. I always remove it before taking my wheel in.
  13. Have you had the rear wheel off lately for a tire change or any other maintenance? There is a washer/spacer that goes into the rear hub on the right side. It is turned down on one side. If it is put in backwards, it will allow the wheel to run out just enough to rub the tire on the frame.
  14. I drug the tips of my stock mufflers many times before adding the leveling links. Mostly riding two up with less than 30 lbs. of air in the shock. I could pump up the shock and prevent it but it resulted in a fairly harsh ride. That is a big advantage for me with the leveling links. I can run the air down around 30 but the bike sits level and I don't drag the mufflers.
  15. It's yours IF I can find it. I'm pretty sure that I kept it and know where it is. I'm out of town now but will be home tomorrow afternoon and will look. PM me your address and I'll get it in the mail. Heck, even sanding it a bit and then spraying it with chrome type spray paint would look better than nothing. Don
  16. Sure sounds like something is still wet. Higher RPMs mean higher voltage. Could be a coil or it could be tha the TCI has moisture in it. Several people here have removed them and put them in the oven to dry them out and solved such problems.
  17. Midnight, Did you ever find a cap or replace the bars? I have one but the chrome flaked off and it's rusty. It would have to be re-chromed, painted, something. I found a scratched up one on Ebay and bought it just for the new cap but I think I kept the old one. Don
  18. Photoshop. Very bad insider joke. Continuing saga between first gen and second gen riders.
  19. I will be even MORE diligent about taking care of my '99. It will need to last for a LONG time.
  20. Sorry to hear that you are having such problems. My '99 has never had a problem with head gaskets nor with the rear drive. I did crack the lower left shield and unfortunately, that is TOO common on these bikes. There are others here who have had some problems with the rear. It's not common but not completely unusual either. The head gasket problem seems to be isolated to the '07 model but should be find once repaired. Hope they get your issues resolved to your satisfaction. Most of us really love these bikes and have had few problems.
  21. I'm not sure how the height of mine compares to their sizes now but when I ordered it, I ordered 2" taller than stock so mine is pretty tall also.
  22. First of all, I'm very glad that you didn't lose control of the bike. Sounds like you did a great job in maintaining it in a very difficult situation. I've had my Cleaview for about 9 years. It was the second one that they ever made for the RSV because Rick Butler and I sent them a template and measurements as to how we would like to see it designed. Rick got the first one and then I requested some changes and got the second one that they made. Mine does have the vent. This is the second '99 that I've had it on and I've ridden in about every kind of weather there is and temps ranging from the low 100s to below freezing. So far, I've never had any kind of problems with it and after 9 years there are still no stress cracks of any kind. I hope that there ends up being a valid explanation as to why yours cracked. I also understand what you are saying about the slotted holes. I wonder though if you had the outer screws tight enough? I have worked on a couple of bikes for people where I found them to not be very tight. People are afraid to tighten them too much for fear of cracking the shield. While I agree that you have to be careful about tightening them down, they DO need to be tight. I tighten mine down pretty good and so far, have never cracked the shield. I honestly think that they are tight enough to hold it on if the center was to break. I may be wrong though. At any rate, I am sincerely glad that you are OK. For what its worth, if I ever wear out this shield, I will replace it with another Clearview but without the vent. I had made that decision already because I like the round push out vents better than the Goldwing style vent. I have the wing vent in the center and a round vent on each side of that one so mine would be very weak as opposed to just the center one. Still, no problems at this point.
  23. I don't have anything negative to say and I hope you love it. As for problems, I know that some of the earlier wings had some stator problems that required that the engine be pulled to replace it. I THINK is was the 1200 models but maybe somebody else here can say for sure.
  24. It was me that did an order for polished stainless covers with our names and etc. acid etched into them. It required a minimum order of 50 sets and I've not seen enough interest to do it again. Sorry. Yamaha does offer chrome hinge covers in their accessory catalog.
  25. You have all had to handle so much over the past weeks...I'm truly sorry to hear about Cindy's fall. I just pray that things will start turning around now. I think that is enough.
