I did it the easy way. I bought the complete set of RSTD mufflers off Ebay a couple of years ago. Rick Butler did it your way though. You might give him a shout or search for posts by him because I know he did post it. Basically he used a punch to punch holes in the correct location. A PUNCH...not a drill. Using a punch left the metal inside which he then tapped to the proper size.

It is fine. You can't make it too large as I have limits set that will crop it.

There will likely be more hitches very soon but Bushtec already as one or the Vision. http://www.bushtec.com/visionhitch.html

Thanks folks. It is sincerely appreciated and always helps. It would be tough financially to do this if it weren't for the kindness of the members.

front air deflecters
Freebird replied to Eddie Fulmer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I agree. If the bike was still under warranty, I would say to have Yamaha replace them but since it's a '99, just replace them with the Diamond R brackets and be done with it. I finally lost one of mine last year. I went with the Diamond R brackets and their polished SS deflectors and am very happy with them.- 2 replies

When I started this site about 4 or so years ago, I started it as a Venture and Royal Star site. The format has worked well for us but that does not mean that others are not welcome. It's been said many times that the bikes are what brought us together but it's the friendships that keep us together. That is what is truly important here. We have a number of members who ride other bikes and they too are dear friends and post here often. Heck, even the guy who is coordinating our 2009 International Rally rides a Goldwing. Not only are you welcome here but the pictures of your bike and adventures are encouraged. Though many of us ride the Venture and Royal Stars now, there is a great depth of experience here on many different makes and models.

You might want to download Open Office. It is free and seems to work very well. It will open Microsoft Office documents. http://www.openoffice.org/

Did you see this thread? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=258 It is for the second gen but the connection points are in about the same place. Screws are a bit different though. You know, we REALLY need a great write-up with pictures of the procedure for the first gen bikes. It would be great if one of you first gen riders could do it and then I would add it to the first gen tech library.

Taller windshields for RSTD
Freebird replied to fortygeek's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I think Clearview also makes a shield for the RSTD. I'm not 100% sure but if they do, they are a popular shield for the RSV riders. Here is a link. http://www.clearviewshields.com/ I'm presently testing a new shield from http://www.f4customs.com which so far, I'm pretty impressed with. I know though that they don't presently make one for the RSTD because I asked them. -
hmmmm.....hadn't thought about that. Trust me...it felt MUCH longer than that. Yes, it's a Giant. The model is Cypress DX. I am certainly no expert on bicycles but I did enough research that I THINK it is OK. It's better than a Walmart type bike but really an entry level premium type bike. Disc brakes, 24 speed, front suspension and seat post suspension. 700 size wheels/tires. I had a hard time finding it because I wanted an '08 model because the '09 models went up about $40.00 AND deleted the disc brakes to save more money. Finally found an '08 model at a small bike shop in Ashland, OH. They call it a "Hybrid". Sort of a cross between a road bike and a mountain bike. Best suited for pavement and bike paths. After my initial ride, I am almost ready to declare you the winner already.

I'm sticking with my IPOD. Well...I do not know about KEEPING me in shape but it has sure shown me how OUT of shape I am. I don't remember it being this hard when I was a kid. I added the chrome bottle holder already. This is very close to the truth. The ONLY thing, so far, that I don't like about the bike is the seat. It is WAY too soft. Wonder if Corbin makes one? I was very careful to get the proper frame size and that everything is adjusted properly. I'm getting proper leg extension and etc. Standover height of the frame is just right for me too. The sad fact is, I'm just BADLY out of shape. I have a couple of choices now. I can either get in shape...OR...add a 1000W electric hub motor.......

And the winner is.....CINDERELLA. My wife has been wanting to start bike riding for some time now. Don't know if I'll really get into it or not but decided to give it a try. When the guy asked me what I was looking for in a bike, I told him that I really needed something that would look OK hanging in the garage. Took it on ONE short ride down the street and my legs were already hurting.

OK folks..here's the thing. If any of you LADIES have pics of yourself that you wish to post but are worried that they might be considered indecent, you can sent them to me first and I will determine their suitability for the site. I KNOW...I KNOW....it's a lot of work but I am willing to make such sacrifices for the good of the club.

Very nice. You are luckier than I am with the bike on the beach routine. The one time I tried it, the rear went all the way down to the swing arm. It was NOT fun trying to get it out.

Well folks, same as many of you, I've patiently awaited the introduction of the new '09 RSV. I said all along that the ONLY difference for '09 would be the color. I think that many of us felt that would be the case but I DO expect to see something new for 2010. What will it be? Who knows. At any rate, most of you know that I've been thinking about a new bike for some time now so today I finally bit the bullet and can happily say that it is sitting in my garage. Brand new 2008 model. Black/Silver. And with that, I will leave you all to speculate. As for me, I'm going for a little ride. More info and pictures later this evening.

My new ClearView Windshild
Freebird replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It is upright like the stock shield. No slant. My Clearview is upright also. They changed to the slant design later. -
I've heard this problem before and I have pretty much reached the conclusion that the problem is with the mounts that hold them tightly. I think that allows too much vibration to be transmitted to the IPOD. I have mine in a clip that just allows it to hand/swing from the handlebar and I've never had a problem with it locking up. I think the best solution is to use something like an IPOD Nano with a memory chip instead of the regular IPOD's hard drive. If I ever buy a new one, that is what I will get but mine works fine the way it is mounted. Here is what I use. I picked up a case for it with the simple button on the back like is used on some cell phone cases and clips. http://www.marware.com/PRODUCTS/Case-Accessories/Bike-Holder

My new ClearView Windshild
Freebird replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well, I don't see any prices for the RSV on their website yet. I think though that they will be close, maybe a bit higher, than the Clearview shields. Too early to say if the extra is justified. He did show me a very good demonstration though. He has a couple of shields that are half normal Lexan as a stock shield would be and the other half is made with his material. He has a windshield wiper on it and the wiper is wrapped with steel wool. He has run the wiper for approximately 100 hours. Needless to say the stock material is scratched to the point that you can't hardly see through it but his still looks new. We'll see. -

They are made by F4Customs. The site is http://www.f4customs.com They just now started making them for the RSV but have made the for the Wing and Harley's for some time now and they get great reviews. No vent at this time but I would not have gotten the vent anyway. I now have the wing vent and the round vents in my Clearview shield and the problem with the Wing vent is keeping it clean. I will put the round vents only in this one. -

Later this evening, I will be installing a new shield on my bike. I will test it for a while and then report back on my likes and dislikes. I will post a separate message later. I will say for now that I've been running a Clearview shield for about 9 years now and have been happy with it. This new one that I'm trying has been very popular with the Goldwing riders but they have just come out with a shield for the RSV. It is NOT cheap but the owner of the company has asked me to test one for him and then report honestly to the members here. That is what I will do. One thing that IS a plus is that all the bottom fastening points are holes, not slots. -
I don't remember there being an inline fuse but there are two fuse boxes. One is behind the left side cover and the other is inside the lower left cowling/fairing.

Well folks, looks like we need another reminder about political posts. I have deleted two threads that either started out as or turned into political discussions. Simply put, they are not welcome here. This was discussed and voted on by the membership long ago and it was overwhelmingly agreed upon that we simply do not need political discussions here. I understand how tempting it is with all that is going on right now in the world of politics. I have said it before though and will say it again. There are PLENTY of websites and discussion forums available if you want to argue about politics. This is NOT the place. I also want to comment on a post in one of the threads that I deleted. The post said something like "I thought that political discussions were not allowed. I guess that's only if you disagree with the admin". That statement is totally false and I am offended by it. I most certainly have strong political views but I try to be unbiased in the way that I moderate this site. No threads are ever deleted without much thought and when possible, discussion among the moderators. Many times a political type thread is posted and is not deleted immediately. The reason is that even though we do not wish to see political threads posted, if it happens, we will usually give it some time in case by some unknown miracle, it doesn't get nasty and turn into a debate between the right and the left. It has nothing to do with whether or not the admin agrees or disagrees with the poster. Perhaps we need to take a stronger stand and just realize that ANY political thread is going to turn into a nasty debate and delete them immediately upon one of the moderators seeing the post. Folks, we have very few rules here. We try to give as much leeway as possible in allowing discussions on many subjects. No political discussion is one of those rules. Please try to keep that in mind.
