OK folks, some of you are aware that with one the upgrades a while back, a new feature called "Social Groups" was added. These are like little mini-forums that are not publicly displayed on the main site. They were very poorly implemented in my opinion. The biggest problem is that there is no way to be notified of new posts to a social group that you are a member of. If you don't check them on a regular basis, it is easy to forget about them. The other problem is that the discussions are not "threaded" as they are in the forum and that makes it hard to have any continuity on a particular subject. There is a new software upgrade that will be ready soon. It is in "beta" right now which means that it is being tested and any major bugs are being worked out. Some sites are already using it and it seems to be stable now but I'll wait a while before installing it. Upgrading the software here is a major pain as I have a lot of customizations that have to be re-applied when I do an upgrade. The REAL question I have is do we even WANT to continue with the social groups. I've had mixed feelings about them from the beginning. On one hand, it is a good place for folks with a common interest that really doesn't warrant a specific topic area in the main forum to exchange ideas, discussion, etc. One example is the "Biker's/Musicians" social forum. This site is not about musicians but we have a number of folks here who play guitar, banjo, drums...even tuba that enjoy talking about their music, gigs, etc. The social group is a great place for them to do that. On the other hand, I think that too many social groups can distract from the family atmosphere that we have here. If enough folks take their discussions to the social groups then the forum could become pretty slow. I prefer that most discussion take place here in the open so that we can all participate. So, those are my thoughts. What are yours?

LOL....I guess some folks are just color blind. Heck....there is SOMEBODY here who says that my bike is GREEN.
-
I think they show up if you click on any topic area and then scroll down. Not if you are already into a specific thread but just the topic area...such as "Watering Hole" and etc.

You will find out soon enough that a gallon is TOO much oil. I even use a longer filter than stock and a gallon would still overfill it by a good bit. When the bike in the perfect upright position, you should see the oil level about half way up in the site glass. If you fill it more than that, you are going to end up with oil in your air boxes. It's not a matter of if...only how soon.

I do like it but I don't wear that type belt. I would like to have one for my chaps but not sure about the brown buckle on my black chaps....hmmmmmmm

Problem with my Clairon CD layer
Freebird replied to a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would love to be able to help but just haven't run into that problem before. You said you checked all the fuses but are you sure? You do know that the Venture has two fuse boxes, one under the left side cover and one inside the right front lower cowling. I'm not sure where the CD gets it's power from. To be honest, most of us did away with the CD changers long ago and went with MP3 players and/or Satellite radio.- 5 replies

OH....I made the bighug smiley smaller too.
-
I replace the big head smiley with a small version. Unfortunately, it doesn't look so good after I made it so small. Oh well. If you are still seeing the HUGE one, you need to clear your browser cache.

hmmm....works fine from here. Maybe something to do with your browser settings? Try switching to Mellow Yellow and then hold the Ctl key while clicking "refresh" on your browser.

For what it's worth, I hate that huge one with the waving hands also. I'm thinking that it may go away very soon.

You can get studded or non-studded from: Diamond R Accessories http://www.diamondraccessories.com or Utopia Products http://www.utpr.com Diamond R is a great friend to our club.

hmmm....I can't explain that one. I have it hard coded into the program so it should be there all the time. UNLESS you are talking about on the home page or pages other than the forum. I only have it coded into the search drop down here at the forum. Hadn't thought about that before. I'll try to add it to the home page also.

I like them. Will be ordering a couple soon. Thanks for doing this.

Not only is it possible, it's been there for YEARS. When you look at the listing of posts, on the far left are envelope icons. If the envelope has an arrow on it, that indicates a thread that you have posted in.

It may be an expensive solution to what you are trying to achieve but my Edset headsets can be used that way. The module has a 1/8" stereo jack that you can plug earbuds into. Then you can even unplug and remove the regular speakers if you want to. You can even order the Edsets without the speakers and use your earbuds. I have not yet tried them with earbuds but do plan to.

There are a couple of ways you can do it. Let's say, for example, that you are seaching for a guy named James. You know though that his last name is not Smith. You would search for: James NOT Smith or James -Smith Here is a pretty good and easy to understand tutorial on Boolean search terms. http://www.learnwebskills.com/search/engines.html

OK folks, I've heard a lot of complaints here about the search function on this forum. I have made a change that we can try out. The option to use the "Google" search in the drop down menu actually works very well. Just use that field and select "www.venturerider" and you will usually get good results. HOWEVER, I have also added Boolean search capabilities to the regular search. Some won't know what that is so let me give a simple example. If you enter 1999 RSV in the search box, it will search the site for every instance of 1999 and every instance of RSV. With Boolean enabled, you can use quotation marks around the term to better isolate the results. In other words, you would type "1999 RSV" in the box and now it will search for that exact term instead of any instance of either word. For those of you who are more advanced with this stuff: This permission allows Boolean searches, which includes the usage of AND, OR, and NOT to limit results. This option can be server intensive for very large forums so its usage is cautioned.

By the way....it was YOU who gave me those dates. What a pain in the butt you are. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=265067&postcount=18

Hope the humor here has helped some but I also know how much pain you are in. I didn't break mine but severely bruised it a few years ago and it was NOT a pleasant experience and took a couple of months to heal. I know that Eddie bruised his a couple of years ago. I remember him showing up for maintenance day and some of the members were kind enough to buy him an inflatable "donut" and wrap it with aluminum foil so it would match the rest of the chrome on his bike.

It was 2.39 here on Friday. May have dropped a bit more since then. That was at the nearest station where I normally buy gas. May be cheaper at some other stations.

LOL....that's not likely to happen. The Harley site hasn't exactly taken off and I almost killed it after the first year. I decided to give it one more year but it's just not doing much. Mostly my fault probably as since I don't have a Harley, I don't put as much time into it as I should. All riders are welcome here and I hope we make folks feel welcome regardless of what they ride.

Beautiful bike. I looked at one just like it last spring but just couldn't do it. Harley has added some nice features over the past few years, I'm sure you will love it.

You are right about that one. I'll see if I can figure out the problem in a day or so. Thanks.
