  1. Yes, that is the correct date and you probably saw it on the home page in the write up about the club.
  2. Well...you were number 387 to sign up after the crash. Anybody can tell by going to their profile. The address bar in your browser will look something like this: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/member.php?u=1 That is mine. The number at the end of that line is the order that you signed up in. Yours says u=387
  3. Yes, July 2004. WOW...we will be five years old in '09. Doesn't seem like it's been that long.
  4. Beautiful work on the bow. I've shot a little bit but not much. When I was a kid, I lived two doors down from a guy named Hardy Ward. He was World Outdoor Archery Champion in 1969. There was an elementary school about a half block away and I used to watch him practice there in the afternoons. It was amazing to watch him shoot.
  5. Well after the crash, you were number 162 to sign up again.
  6. You can go to the members list and click and then click on "join date" and it will sort the list according to the date that people joined. As Margaret said though, it doesn't really mean anything due to the crash after which everybody had to re-register. I really don't remember who the first 10 original members were. Except for one.....ME.....I was NUMBER ONE!
  7. I honestly don't know what all I've eaten. All the usual things in the USA including rattlesnake, possum, squirrel brains, alligator, crawdad, etc. China: Snake Soup Hong Kong: Roast Pigeon Thailand: soup with fish guts, chicken intestines, who knows what else. Chicken feet off a road side stand. Many things that I just stopped asking what it was. In China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Mexico and a few other places, I finally just decided that it was sometimes best to stop asking and just go along with the locals.
  8. All done. I like it.
  9. Yes, that is something that you need to do. Has nothing to do with removing the wheel but needs to be done while the wheel is off. Here you go. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13263
  10. Here you go: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=515
  11. Sorry, I can't help on on the Royal Star. I put the Flanders bars on my RSV and it wasn't too difficult. Some folks have done it without replacing the brake, clutch and throttle lines and some have reported that they are too tight. I wanted the SS lines anyway so went with some that were 2" longer. On the RSV, you have to drill a hole on the throttle side to match with the protrusion on the housing that keeps it from rotating, probably the same on the Royal Star but I'm not sure.
  12. You folks can argue all day and those of you who think that the Metzlers are good tires then you have made your decision and that is your right. For those of who who are unsure though, LISTEN to V7Goose. They are NOT good tires for our bikes. There have been MANY reports of failures on our bikes. Yes, there have been failures on other brands too but nothing near the number of reports that we get on the Metzlers. The under inflation argument just doesn't fly with me. You would have to convince me that only those who use Metzler tires are ever guilty of running their tires under inflated and since many of those who have experience failures have run other brands before and after then they ONLY run the Metzlers under inflated. Yes, it is important that we watch the air pressure of our tires but it's pretty pathetic that these particular tires come apart if the pressure isn't kept that high. Bottom line. They are crappy tires and Metzler should be sued for continuing to sell them and blame the riders. Sorry folks but these are my opinions and the opinions of many who have experience with these tires. If you are convinced in your own mind that they are good tires then by all means, do what you think is best but for those of you who are unsure, please don't buy or use them. There are several very good tires on the market for our bike. Avon, Michelin, Dunlop....there is no reason to take a chance.
  13. No WAY is that me. I've NEVER done that....I mean...allowed myself to be caught on video.
  14. Actually, I had him working on some things for a new venturerider shirt some time ago. I kind of let it fall through the cracks though and need to pick it up again. Here are some preliminary sketches that he had done for me.
  15. My fault...I should have looked a the name of the city closer when he emailed me. Sorry about that.
  16. I may have typed it wrong.
  17. You don't have to buy songs. I've used my standard IPOD for several years and have over 100 complete CDs on it. I just copied my CDs to the Ipod. I've probably not bought over a half dozen songs from Itunes.
  18. Well I'm certainly not looking for a first gen but if I were....the white '88 would be the one.
  19. OK folks, I am looking for help/suggestions here. As most of you know, Darrell Steuer (Maddabber) was the winner of the Bushtec trailer at this years VentureRider International Rally. Most of you also know that Darrell is dealing with some serious health issues at this time and I hope you are all praying for him. Last week, I drove down to Jacksboro, TN to the Bushtec factory and picked up his trailer for him and now have it at my house here in Oberlin, OH. I told Darrell that I would store it for him until he is able to get it and I have absolutely no problem doing that but it would be great if we could get it to him. So, do we have enough members between here and London, Ontario, Canada to pull this off? I also need information on getting it across the border. All the paperwork for the trailer was mailed to Darrell and I'm sure he will send it to us if we need it but what do we need and what is it going to cost to get it across the border? Your suggestions are welcome and needed. Thanks.
  20. I don't think that is the pond monster...but I just loaded up the Stevens 311 double barrel JUST in case. It better not come NEAR the house.
  21. I think you would pretty much just have to watch and/or let the dealer know that you plan to check the date codes and they had better no be old. The tires that I got from SWMOTO were fresh also. I'll be watching in the future on my cars though.
  22. Not only is it a very rare color for the year...it's also a very rare 1600 CC Venture.
  23. Pegscraper, It is pretty much confirmation of what we have discussed here many times. The fact that a LOT of tire retailers are selling tires that have set on the shelves for a long time. The investigators found some that had been sitting in stores for up to 12 years but still being sold as new and safe. They found them at Sears, Walmart, Goodyear...pretty much everywhere that sells tires. These companies are doing nothing illegal as there are no expiration dates on tires and no laws to prevent these old tires from being sold. This particular report was on car and truck tires but we know that the same problem exists with our motorcycle tires.
  24. I did email the seller and got a response back from him. He told me that he works for a Yamaha dealer in Northrop, CO and that I could call to confirm. He also admitted that he typed the wrong year number. I feel a bit better about it now.
  25. This is probably nothing and I don't want to overreact but feel it is better to be safe than sorry. There was a new ad posted in our classifieds this evening. Here is the link: http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=1567 I just want to urge everybody to be cautious. This is a member that just joined today and it was apparently just to post his ad because he hasn't posted anything else. He says that he works for a Yamaha dealer and probably does but I'm just a tiny bit suspicious because he doesn't know the year model of the bike he is listing. He says it is an '89 but Yamaha only offered that color in 1988. Not saying anything except to beware and verify carefully if you are interested in the bike.
