How many miles does the bike have on it? I don't know that EVERYBODY here would agree but in my opinion, the valves should be checked around 40,000. They will most likely be fine and then I don't think I would check them again until at least 100,000.

Confirmed. Thanks guys. It helps a LOT.

Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Heated Clothing Instructions
Freebird replied to Venturing Sole's topic in Riding Gear
Very good. I also copied the original post to the "General Tech Library" -
Well...I typically get at least a short ride in on the 1st...sort of a annual tradition for me. I'm going to miss it this year though because Eileen and I are going out of town for a few days leaving Wednesday. Today is our 14th wedding anniversary so we are going to celebrate it somewhere.

I've never seen one. I just did a search and it looks like a good solution. All the descriptions state that you can punch out the back to route your wires but NONE of the pictures actually show it with the wires coming out so I have no idea.

As for the tune up, there really isn't that much to do. Change the plugs and sync the carbs is the main thing. Many dealers don't do such a great job with the carbs. Many, maybe MOST of us, do our own. You can buy a carb sync tool for about what the dealer will charge you to do it and it's a simple job.

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for but in my opinion, the best solution is the Carbon_One Deluxe Lift Adapter with the legs. You will need a standard motorcycle lift first though. Then just put the adapter under the bike, lift it with a motorcycle lift, install the legs and then remove the lift. IF you have room on the sides to slide the lift under it to start with.

OK...here it is: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=176169#post176169

Yes, I remember somebody putting that together. I'll just have to do a search now and find it.

By the way...I noticed that the Honda, Kawasaki, etc. files are .csv but the Yamaha is gpx Will either format work?

Thanks Dennis. That is exactly what I was looking for.

OK folks...as I await the arrival of m Zumo 550, I'm already trying to learn about it. I rode with a guy one day that had all the Yamaha Dealers installed as POIs. Do any of you know where I can get that file? Are there other interesting POIs that I should know about? Thanks

There have been some recent requests for the VentureRider flags. We have been out of these for some time now and it was time to make them available again. Details are in the VentureRider Merchandise forum area at: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=285603#post285603

Folks, for any of you who enjoy the piano, we have a member here who plays absolutely beautifully. Bob Geresti, username Geresti, sent me a couple of MP3 selections during the holidays and they are just wonderful. I asked him if he minded me uploading one of them to the Chat Room music selection and he said sure. He also told me though that he has about 28 CDs out and that he was willing to offer any VentureRider member a discount on them. For a preview, you can hear Bob's "Stairway to Heaven" in the chat room. Bob's CDs sell for $13.00-$15.00 each and he has told me that he will make them available to VentureRider members for $10.00 each plus shipping. If you like piano, you will love Bob's music. You can find them at: http://cdbaby.com/all/gerestimusic or http://www.gerestimusic.com/

Brad, I'm sincerely sorry that this happened to you and your family. Looking at the pictures, I think you are lucky that nobody was hurt worse than they were. I'm sure there will be some aches and pains. Yes, it was a nice car but it can be replaced and the important thing is that you are all relatively OK. We will keep you in our prayers.

Newbie question Parting 86 Venture where to post?
Freebird replied to OldBull's topic in Watering Hole
It's best to keep large amounts of parts...such as parting out an entire bike...in the classifieds. Then it's OK to post in the tech forums that you have listed some parts there. -
Venturerider flag !
Freebird replied to barry-only-n7's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Flags are now available for order. Please see this thread in the Venturerider Merchandise area. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=285603#post285603 -
Well...I just placed the order for the Zumo 550 from PC Nation. I found it slightly cheaper a couple of places but the feedback on the companies wasn't very good. To be honest, I really wanted to just forget about ordering one at all for now but my wife insisted that this was her Christmas present to me and that she was going to be hurt if I didn't do it. Oh what a man must do to keep the peace. I guess now I have to order the special cable from Buddy. Not even sure what it's for but I've been told by some of you that I need it.

I received this information from Douglas Harless and thought it was worth passing on. As you know, most cell phone providers charge extra if you call directory assistance. Google offers a free service that does the same thing. I haven't tried it yet but understand that it works very well. They even connect you. http://www.google.com/goog411/

I received the following information from ReineyRooster. Please keep the friends and family in your prayers. Though Al may have just joined to help out with the Rally, he DID post here a number of times and as with any of our members will be missed. From ReinyRooster Don, a very good friend of mine, Al Johnson died December 19th and was laid to rest December 23, 2008. He joined this club just to become a member so that he could help us organize and run the VentureRider rally that we held in Kitchener this year, and was in charge of the t-shirt sales until he become to ill to handle it. His handle was "King of squirrels".

64 here in NE Ohio right now. Unfortunately it is also wet and windy. I may even get my traditional New Years Day ride in this year. It's supposed to drop into the upper 20's by then but if it will dry out so that the roads aren't wet, I'll still get that ride in.

OK OK OK..... So...have any of you seen it cheaper than this from a RELIABLE source? I think it's $657.00 here...it has been about 15 seconds since I looked and I don't remember for sure. Yes, they both play MP3. I don't care about the phone when I'm riding. I don't want the XM because I already have a Sirius unit that I move back and forth between the bike and my work car and don't want to add another subscription. The only other thing I know of is the text to voice. From what I understand, that just means that though the 450 tells you when to turn and etc., it doesn't actually say the street names.

Well.....the TomTom has been returned....I did another post on that. This morning I stopped by a local jeweler and had him look at the ring that I had bought for my wife. I had ordered a size 7 and it measures a size 4 1/2. I called the jeweler that I had custom make the ring and she was very upfront in that she had simply screwed up. She says that all her notes say size 7. The invoices all say size 7 but on the work order that she wrote up for her caster she wrote size 4 1/2 and said that she has no idea why she did that. I will be sending the ring back to her tomorrow and she is going to completely remake it. Cast a new ring, set new stones, etc. She was very apologetic and is paying shipping and insurance both ways. So the ring problem will work out. The good news is that the Ford Taurus is still running fine.
