I'm thinking you are probably dead on. No, there is no way to hard set the aux input. I think that is also why it doesn't work if you pause the MP3. I notice that when I pause the music and then start it again, there is a delay while the aux input picks up the signal. Too long a delay for the navigation prompts to trigger it I think. I also found the volume to be lacking but figured out tonight about the two separate volume controls on the Garmin. I turned it up so tomorrow I'll bet it works much better but I'm pretty much convinced that it's not going to work unless I have the music cranked up. The only thing that really puzzles me though is that I can turn the Sirius unit all the way down and the "Aux" doesn't lose the signal. I'm betting this is the problem and am somewhat relieved that it's not the Zumo itself. I won't be using it much in the van anyway. I have a RAM laptop mount in it and use my laptop with Microsoft Streets with GPS so don't really need the Zumo in it.

Yes, I have the car adapter but my hearing isn't the greatest and the sound from the little speaker leaves a lot to be desired. Even more so if you want to use the MP3 function.

OK folks, I got home late last night and barely had time to play with the new Zumo 550 before going to bed. This morning I stuck it in my work car so that I could try it out a bit today. Now, my work car is a 2008 Dodge Caravan. It has an AM/FM/CD unit with RCA type inputs on the front for auxiliary in. I use it all the time with my Sirius radio with a 1/8" stereo to dual RCA plugs to run from the Sirius unit to the car's stereo. The way it works is that when you plug an audio source into the aux input jacks on the stereo, it automatically switches to aux. I simply unplugged the stereo plug from the Sirius and plugged it into the audio out jack of the Garmin car mount. It worked great at first but then it started losing the aux in signal. There is an indicator on the stereo that says "Aux" when something is plugged in. If it is on aux though and there is no input signal, the display says "No Aux Found". It will show "Aux" and work fine for a few minutes and then "No Aux Found" for a few minutes and during those times there is no MP3 nor navigation prompts heard from the Garmin. Also, I notice that if I press the pause button on the Garmin MP3 player, I also lost navigation prompts as long as the MP3 is paused. I'm thinking that all of this has something to do with the way the aux input works on my cars stereo but was wondering if any of you have run into a similar problem. The only way I can double check it would be to get it installed on the bike and go for a VERY cold ride.

Yes, you will get total silence with the mic mute. Same as turning the intercom down all the way. I too have experienced the same thing that you did with the clicking and the intercom turned up. I was able to get rid of it by slightly moving the wires under the left side of the gas tank but not everybody has had success with that. I have the Mic Mute now and no longer have to worry about it though.

HEY...I GOT A ROOM. Not only that...but this one has a hot tub, the champagne is on ice....life is GOOD. Eileen is taking a little nap right now but when she wakes up, the champagne will be cold....I drove to the store and picked up some boiled shrimp and cocktail sauce......even got some ice cream to prove that we ARE VentureRiders.

Well..I've not been online much the past couple of days. Eileen and I are still away and won't be home until Sunday night. She is sleeping in this morning so I was checking my email and saw a few donations and was very surprised. I then came across this post and understood what triggered them. I just want to say that they are MUCH appreciated. Those of you who know me well know that I do NOT do this for the money. To be honest, if I did, I would have shut it down long ago. I do this because i enjoy it and I love the family that has been created here. It does get expensive at times though and money is a bit tight at times so the donations are sincerely appreciated. I may have created this monster but it is all of YOU who have made it what it is. I feel that I am very blessed to have so many very good friends. I hope to meet many more of you in person in 2009. Thanks Much, Don

The good news is that my Garmin Zumo 550 arrived today. The bad news is that it arrived about 2 hours after I left. That's life. My son called to tell me that it had arrived but Eileen and I had already left for our 4 day anniversary vacation. It gives me something to look forward to when I get home though. Except for all of that: HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL MY VENTURERIDER FRIENDS!

Or....just type the text that you want and then after you type it, highlight it and THEN click on the "link" icon and type in the URL. It will add it to the text that you had highlighted.

I like it. I bought my wife a Virago 535 a few years ago. She rode it a bit but didn't like the way it felt. Had a lot of rake to the front end. It was a cool bike though. As for resizing the pics. If you make them a max of 640 x 480 and under 200,000 bytes they should work fine. Check the "Computer Help" section of the forum for some good suggestions and links.

I love it. The rear fenders are a GREAT compliment to the original lines of the RSV. Very nice.

LOL....that WAS funny. Apparently he does NOT appreciate the finer points of vintage audio technology.

How many miles does the bike have on it? I don't know that EVERYBODY here would agree but in my opinion, the valves should be checked around 40,000. They will most likely be fine and then I don't think I would check them again until at least 100,000.

Confirmed. Thanks guys. It helps a LOT.

Very good. I also copied the original post to the "General Tech Library" -
Well...I typically get at least a short ride in on the 1st...sort of a annual tradition for me. I'm going to miss it this year though because Eileen and I are going out of town for a few days leaving Wednesday. Today is our 14th wedding anniversary so we are going to celebrate it somewhere.

I've never seen one. I just did a search and it looks like a good solution. All the descriptions state that you can punch out the back to route your wires but NONE of the pictures actually show it with the wires coming out so I have no idea.

As for the tune up, there really isn't that much to do. Change the plugs and sync the carbs is the main thing. Many dealers don't do such a great job with the carbs. Many, maybe MOST of us, do our own. You can buy a carb sync tool for about what the dealer will charge you to do it and it's a simple job.

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for but in my opinion, the best solution is the Carbon_One Deluxe Lift Adapter with the legs. You will need a standard motorcycle lift first though. Then just put the adapter under the bike, lift it with a motorcycle lift, install the legs and then remove the lift. IF you have room on the sides to slide the lift under it to start with.

Yes, I remember somebody putting that together. I'll just have to do a search now and find it.

By the way...I noticed that the Honda, Kawasaki, etc. files are .csv but the Yamaha is gpx Will either format work?
