JC Whitney used to sell one made by Hopnel that they listed specifically for the RSV. I have one but I don't see it listed there now. Here are some more though. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_ID=0&Category_ID=0&manufacturer_ID=62&product_ID=2052&sblid_name=Hopnel_Beverage_Holder http://www.whitehorsepress.com/product_info.php?products_id=5352

I wouldn't want to go either direction but for me, coming back down would have been worse than going up.

Bluetooth Wireless set/communications
Freebird replied to thecount's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
While I can see the convenience of not having wires, I don't like the idea of something else that I have to charge every night when I'm on a trip. First of all, there are MANY times that we ride for longer than 9 hours so I fear that the bluetooth would be dead before the end of the day. I like wireless for a lot of things but am not ready to go wireless on my motorcycle headsets. I too have the Zumo 550 with Buddy's cable for my phone. Haven't got to test it all yet due to being a bit snowed in but I think it's the right solution for me.- 34 replies

Posting of new threads in the proper section of the forum
Freebird replied to KiteSquid's topic in Watering Hole
You are right, a lot of things get posted in the wrong areas. We have been pretty lax on enforcing it as nobody has complained and as long as folks are happy, it's not a huge deal to me. I do think that tech questions should be posted in the tech sections as it makes them easier to find later and also, as BradT says, posting them in the watering hole gets them moved down very quickly. So, I am going to may this an official public plea to the moderators to help me move posts to the correct area if they are posted in the wrong place. I will also ask that members start paying more attention to where they post also. -
As for a plug and play harness, there are none that I know of. I've seen them for the Goldwing but not for the Venture. That would sure be nice.

Yes, the Mobil 1 4T racing is what I've used in mine since 1999 at 2,000 miles. It's all I've ever used and I have no plans to swap. I use it in my mowers too. Seeing as I always have about a half quart remaining, I just save it and use it when I change the oil in my mowers. I usually get mine at Autozone but some Walmarts now carry it also. I've found the price to be about the same at both places though. In my wife's Sorrento, I also use Mobil 1. I've just used it for many years and am very pleased with it.

Folks, I should have brought this up LONG ago but just hadn't really considered how big a deal it could end up being. I'm going to have to ask you that if you are hosting or helping to organize a VentureRider rally, Meet and Eat, whatever...that you PLEASE not solicit donations from any of our listed vendors/supporters listed on this site without checking with me first. The problem is, we have a LOT of events throughout the year and we simply cannot ask a handful of vendors to donate prizes for each and every one of them. Our primary rally of the year is the Internatonal Rally. This year it will be held in Arkansas. We will be asking our vendors to donate prizes for that rally and hopefully some of them will be generous enough to do so. These are mostly small vendors though and they simply cannot be expected to donate to every event. It is also not fair that they may not even KNOW what is a major event, what is simply a Meet and Eat, etc. They get a message from John Doe at VentureRider.org and may assume that he or she is making the request as an official representative of the club. I'm sorry, but it just can't work that way. We will only ask our vendors here to donate to one major rally a year. For the other events, if you wish to give away prizes, you really need to approach your local dealers or new vendors. Please do not approach any company or vendor on behalf of VentureRider.org without discussing it with me first. I hope you understand and I thank you in advance for that understanding. Don

Yes, that study has been around a while and MANY people never realize that Amsoil funded it. I think that Amsoil is a very good oil but not quiet as good as THEY think they are. I'll stick with my Mobil 1.

I think you'll find the tips to be VERY expensive from a dealer. If you watch, you can sometimes find a like new set of mufflers on Ebay. I bought a set off a new RSTD for $50.00 complete with tips.

I had a Shadow Ace that I really liked. I don't remember for sure but I THINK it was a '95 model. They were a bit underpowered but it did what I needed it to. I had it equipped with Leatherlike bags, Memphis Fats shield, Mustang seat and Cobra pipes. I wish I still had it for those short local rides.

I don't think that this will affect many of us but we do have some corporate types here so it never hurts to put it out there. Eck sent this to me and it sounds like a pretty bad one. http://www.dailytech.com/New+Rampant+Windows+Worm+Seizes+8+Million+Business+PCs+in+a+Week/article13981.htm

HEY...you are RIGHT. I think it needs to be plowed.

I've got one exactly like that sitting in my garage. It works OK. My garage is not insulated but it takes the chill off.

I solved my snow removal problems today. Ran across what I THINK was a great deal on an older John Deere 110. This is a early 70's model and came with a mowing deck, snowblower, chains and weights. The 70 year old man that I bought it from bought it brand new and still had the original owner's manuals and etc. Got it home and immediately plowed my 400 ft. drive and it did a fantastic job. It's only a 36" wide blower but only took me about 4 passes and maybe 15 or 20 minutes total. He really took great care of it.

Done. No problem.

Any problems with luggage racks?
Freebird replied to Murphster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've had mine on the bike since 1999. No problems at all so far. On trips, I have a decent sized overnight back that I put on it. Not very heavy, maybe 10-15 lbs. I do have the Yamaha rack which has some long chromed metal strips which helps distribute the weight instead of it all being at the mounting points. -
Well, I could hide ALL the post counts but it's just not worth the trouble.

JT, You will continue to be in my prayers. I know it will take time. 34 years is a long time and I would be worried about you if you felt any other way at this time. Cherish those memories and know that we are always here for you. Don

Yep, it should work fine. As long as it has an audio out jack. My wife bought me a new TomTom Rider 2 for Christmas and it had no audio out jack, Bluetooth only. I returned it because of that.
