  1. 26F here in Oberlin right now. A bit nippy.
  2. The address is 16898 Hawley Road in Oberlin, OH 44074. Hope you can make it.
  3. How far are you from there? I may be in Dayton next week if you can't go by there and want me to.
  4. I have the Baron's tach but the connections are probably the same. I connected it to the positive terminal on the primary side of the coil on the right front cylinder. Removing the gas tank makes it much easier to get to. I don't know how much you know about the electrical systems but the primary side is where you have two small wires connected to the coil with spade connectors. The secondary is the plug wire itself. You can pull off he positive wire and then the easiest way is to pick up a dual connector at parts house. It will have two male spades on it so you can plug the positive wire back into it and then the coil wire onto the other one. If you don't have nor wish to go get the dual connector, you will just have to splice into the positive wire.
  5. Oh...I also want to express my thanks to Chuck and Linda for being there when two other members were in need. You both exemplify what this organization is all about. Members helping Members. We have a lot of fun, learn from each other and sometimes disagree on things but when it comes down to the nitty gritty...we are there for each other. God Bless you both.
  6. Looking at the pictures of the bike and reading your story of exactly how it happened, Tom is a very lucky man. He obviously made a great and talented decision to get off the bike when he did. I admire his abilities. Good luck on the rest of your trip...this will be one that none of us, especially you two, will ever forget.
  7. I agree....I think that most states require them but even if they didn't, it's the responsible thing to do. I would not want to live with myself knowing that my selfishness in not wanting to use the chains was the cause of somebody else getting hurt or killed.
  8. I am really sorry to find out about this. I am so glad that everybody is OK. We all know that there are risks associated with riding a motorcycle and we accept those risks but it sure doesn't make it any easier when we hear of such things happening. As we always say, the bike can be replaced but tom can't so in that regard, we will have to call this a good outcome to a bad situation. Let Tom know that we will keep him and you in our prayers and give thanks that he was able to walk away from it.
  9. I've been running one for several years now. I have mixed feelings about it. I don't think it really does much for you in just normal driving. I see no real improvement in power in any range. What I do like about it is that it allowed me to set the rev limiter higher and these bikes can still make some GREAT power about the factory set rev limiter. So...I like it but don't know that the money is well spent for those few times when I really want to wind the bike that tight. I just don't do it that often.
  10. No, I actually didn't do anything at all. I saw a chance to do some riding and decided I wanted to get everything back together. For now, I just used a long nylon tiewrap and ran it through the "U" that holds the gauges into the face place. I used one on each of the outer gauges and then just looped them through the holes in the existing plastic box that the cassette used to slide into. Got a nice ride in over the weekend and it worked fine. Maybe I'll do something more permanent the next time I'm in the fairing.

  12. It probably got deleted in the last cleanup. We delete a lot of threads in the watering hole from time to time. That's why it is somewhat important to post tech type articles in the appropriate forums. I pay a lot closer attention to what gets deleted in the tech talk forums as opposed to the watering hole where I usually just delete old threads by date.
  13. I'm sorry to hear of these problems with the seals. I honestly don't understand it though. I have pulled mine several times and have pulled and lubed them for several other members here also and have never had this problem. Have never even considered having a spare on hand. Maybe I should though.
  14. Also, make sure that the CB antenna is on the correct side. I've seen MANY times when the dealer installed the CB antenna on the radio side and the radio antenna on the CB. The CB antenna should be on the left side ... the left being your left while sitting on the bike.
  15. The bed looks like it is from an OLD Datsun or Toyota pickup. Interesting though.
  16. As most know, the RSV comes stock with either the 404 or the Bridgestones. In my honest opinion, the Bridgestone is not only a terrible tire but is actually dangerous due to the very poor traction on wet roads. I had no problems with the 404 and would run it again if I had to. I couldn't disagree more though with the statement that the Avon is only good in PERFECT weather. I'm glad that the cop is happy with the 404 and there are a few others here that are pleased with them also but as long as I can buy either Avon or Michelin...I will never use the 404 again. I find that the Avon and Michelin both far exceed the 404 on roads of any condition. Also, while I did get about 14,000 miles out of my stock 404, I never got more than 8,000 out of a replacement 404. The prices are very close in the USA if you shop around. Now I've heard some good things about the Dunlop Elite 3 but have not tried them.
  17. I used mechanical gauges so the grounding wasn't an issue. I also used Permatex thread sealer on the threads. I did mine as Goose did in that I only used the non-foulder to form the threads on the adapter and like him, I used the gasket from the non-fowler also. As for getting a socket on things, I had no problem but you MUST remove the chrome covers from the valve covers to do so. They are easy to remove, only a couple of allen head bolts.

  19. My temps were at idle. It sat there running for maybe 20 minutes. Were your temps running or just idling? The bike has never overheated so I figure if there is that much difference, it's probably the gauges. I would like to know that they are right but I guess the main thing is that you have a base point so you can see if there is a sudden change someday.

  21. So, now that mine are all hooked up, I wonder how accurate they are? What kind of temperatures and oil pressure are you guys seeing? When mine is up to running temperature, I'm getting about 10 psi oil pressure at idle. Haven't taken it down the road yet but when I rev it to 3000 or so RPM, it seems to run at about 40. Temperature seems high. My gauge indicates about 225 before the fan comes on.

  23. Yes but I it still left about half the slots. Like you mentioned, I'll probably seal them with something. Actually thinking about making a gasket to go across the tops and sides anyway not so much to keep water out but just so I get get it snug against the dash. I don't know if there is a technical reason or not. I can say that it would be much harder to get to and it just leaves more of the sensor cable to wind up and store somewhere.
