MegaMax Gel Battery
Freebird replied to BigMark7's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
YAWN....how boring is THAT. Geezzz...........you need to experiment more. By the way, are you planning to come to maintenance day? We missed you last year. -
To my knowledge, there has been no change in gearing from 1999 to the present models. Yamaha has a couple of different clutch baskets that they will change out if there is a bad problem with the clutch basket chirping. These are typically known as "I" baskets, "H" baskets, etc.

I caught site of one this evening also. On 270 south of Columbus. Looked like an '85 maybe. Red and black. I was headed the opposite direction.
-
Dan, I am sorry that you felt the need to sell your bike. BUT...I'll say it again...I still expect to see you at Maintenance Day even if you take the bus. I'll even pick up you at the bus stop.
-
Heck...I actually thought it was MY little joke that upset you. I would have let Mike fight him own friggin battles. No problem, all it forgotten and I'm sorry if I over reacted.
-
No problem. I am not one to thwart free enterprise. One word of caution, be careful trying to go longer. Diamond R actually makes their's about a half inch shorter than stock because the original ones will crack from hitting the front fender trim rail of those who have installed that option.
-
My Avon's are a year old and have no cracks. I'm very pleased with them. That being said, my previous tries were Michelin Commanders and I was very happy with them also. If anybody has doubts about the Avons, I would suggest either the Michelin Commanders or the Dunlop Elite 3. I've not tried the Elite 3's but have heard good reports on them.
-
Jeff, Are you talking about the lower wind deflectors? If so, I already have the polished stainless steel ones from Diamond R and they are top notch. Not trying to discourage you but just saying that you may be re-inventing the wheel.

Like I said, it's all in fun. There is a lot of great help here and a lot of great folks who will bend over backwards to do so. The fun and joking gets mingled into that. Just the way it is. You can decide if you wish to accept that or not.
-
You know, there is a lot of fun teasing that goes on here. I've owned 3 first gens and they are great bikes. I listen to teasing all the time here about how slow our second gens are. I take it in the joking manner in which it is offered. I'm not rich either. If I had to buy another bike right now, I would probably do without. If you are that thin skinned then by all means pay your membership fee and join the other site. No offense was meant but if you get offended that easily, you have probably joined the wrong group. Let me know if you want your membership/profile here deleted. I try to run a nice site and am here to enjoy the company, not respond to this type of thing.
-
If those of you who are still riding the first gens will look in a mirror...you will find your dipstick. JUST KIDDING...I just thought of that and couldn't let it pass by.

removed cassette, added gauges......done
Freebird replied to jlh3rd's topic in Computer, Lights, Horns, Other Electrical
One thing I forgot to mention on mine. On the adapter that I bought, the hex shape for the wrench to fit on to tighten it went all the way down. It was hitting the raised edge around the threaded hole where you screw it in. I used my bench grinder to grind it smooth to about a half inch up so that it did not hit the raised rim. This allowed it to tighten down completely without hitting. I think my adapter was a different brand than the one that Goose bought and yours may be like his and this may not be necessary. After grinding it though and then using Permatex thread sealer and the washer from the non-foul adapter, I had no leaks at all. I got it pretty tight. Should have used a torque wrench so I could report how tight I tightened it but didn't do so, sorry. -

Unfortunately, I don't know of an actual rebuild kit. Individual parts are usually available from a Yamaha dealer. Maybe somebody else here has a source for a kit but I've never seen one. You can pick up complete sets of carbs sometimes on Ebay for a decent price. If they are that bad, that is something you may want to consider.

This was sent to me by a friend from the MTA. There is some good info here. A lot of it is common sense but worth reviewing. http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Accidents.html

Also...there is a link right in the blue header of the forum that says "Restaurant Reviews". It says: Member Restaurant Reviews Click here to submit your favorite Restaurants

Freebird replied to motorbiketim's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think that is just slicker n' goose poop. PLUS...I'll bet there are very few choppers in the country that could stay with you. -
It should be OK now. Thanks for letting me know.

Interchanging seats
Freebird replied to Mikealiasmike's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
No, you did OK. You DID post it in the Royal Star forum so I figured that was what it came off of. I'm not sure of the answer though. I'm sure that somebody will chime in here. -

It came of a '99 what? Royal Star or RSV? If RSV, it will fit any RSV from 1999 - Present. -
Scott, We sure need to have more meets and eats here and there is no reason not to do so. Also, you could check out the local chapter here of the MTA. That is Motorcycle Touring Association. They have monthly meetings near Avon, OH but they also have a lot of scheduled day rides as well as weekend rides throughout the summer. I've known most of them for a long time and they are a GREAT group to ride with. A mix of Ventures, Wings, Voyagers, a Harley or two. Very family oriented group. They do NOT require you to join the MTA National to ride with them. Guests are very much accepted. Don

Also, I just did a search and found several references that Combofix has resolved that problem. I've never used it but it sounds like it is worth a try. http://www.combofix.org/

How long since your last oil change and what kind of oil are you using? I've seen this a number of times. I use Mobil 1 Synthetic and have never had much of a problem like that. If my bike sits for a long time, I find that if I try to roll it in gear with the clutch in, it is stuck slightly. This is with the bike not running. I just hold the clutch in and rock it forward two or three times and it frees up. No big deal.
