  1. In my opinion, disconnecting or plugging the AIS will have no effect at all on gas mileage. I have run many miles with it connected and then disconnected and never saw a difference in mileage.
  2. Sorry about the few minutes of downtime this morning. Seems that we exceeded our allotted bandwidth this month. I have increased it so we should be good for a long time now.
  3. Several years ago, I rebuilt the seat on the Harley FXRD that I owned at that time. I found that most of the foam was too soft. I bought one of those block of foam in the exercise department at Walmart that is used for doing stair step exercises. It was a very hard/dense foam and made a fantastic base. I then used a softer foam for an insert in it. It worked very well.
  4. There is no video but there are step by step instructions here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=258 A video is not a bad idea. Maybe that is something that we can do in the near future.
  5. I haven't come to a final decision about that yet. I will seek all your input on that subject before I do anything.
  6. It's up to you. I have removed the monthly option but you can continue to use it until it expires if you wish. I would prefer the yearly method but if enough of you want the monthly option, I will add it back.
  7. Sailor, you may be looking in the wrong place. I did receive yours and you are marked paid.
  8. I got it corrected. I had already credited Noddy. Don't know how yours ended up two years. Thanks for letting me know.
  9. I just finished updating alll the profiles for those of you who have paid your VentureRider dues via PayPal OR mail. Please go to your UserCP and then scroll down until you see "Paid Subscriptions" in the left menu. It should show your paid subscription there. If you sent a check by mail and just recently sent it, then I may have not yet received it but I have entered all that I have received. I'm thinking in about two more weeks I will start making the changes that will restrict posting to subscribed members only. Thanks, Don
  10. John, I have some that I bought off Ebay a year or so ago just in case I ever needed one. PM me your address and I'll get one over nighted to you tomorrow. I don't know where the nearest FedX is. Will UPS overnight or second day be OK?
  11. Just wondering if anybody here has tried shortening the cable for the Zumo XM unit? I wish it was only about 12" long. Even in my car, I sit it on the dash right under the windshield mount for the unit. A 12" cable would be plenty.
  12. The CD player is made by Clarion. You could buy a brand new one from several online sources for around $120.00 at one time. I think it has been discontinued though. If I remember correctly, it is a C-Bus. I bought one years ago for about $125.00 with shipping included but only used it for a couple of months before getting rid of it and going to MP3. If I remember correctly, the stock radio is made by Clarion also.
  13. Great story and I agree with you completely. It's funny how quickly your life can change. It was only a few weeks ago that I, like most guys, thought I was pretty much bullet proof. Hopefully I have MANY more years left to bother all you fine folks but the truth is, none of us know for sure how long we have on this old earth. There really are some changes that I need to make in the way I eat, exercise, etc. but the fact is you just never know. It will be 6 months before I go back and all the test will be done again to determine if they were successful in treating the cancer but I don't intend to stop living and sit around worrying about it no more than I have to. Yes, I feel very blessed that they found this when they did. The prognosis could have been much worse.
  14. I bought an AirHawk several years ago. It rated highest in a bike magazine that tested several cushions. Just didn't work for me. I sold it after a few months. Some people really like them though.
  15. Dang it Jeff, I am happy for you if it is what you want but sad that you will be away. I know that things have gotten much better over there but there is still plenty of danger. PLEASE take care of yourself and watch your back. We will truly miss you. Maybe you could send Mini instead?
  16. WOW...it was about 9 years ago that I did that little job. I really don't remember but I know that I made something in my toolbox work. Did buy or make anything special.
  17. My wife bought me a Rider2 for Christmas. The one thing that I didn't like about it was that it had no hard wired audio out. Only bluetooth out. That means that if you want to play the MP3 or hear the voice commands through the bikes system, you have to buy some type of bluetooth adapter. I returned it and bought a Zumo and have been very pleased with it.
  18. Also, if it was a midnight, it would have chromed forks. I can't tell for sure from that picture but I don't think they are chrome. I agree that it is probably a '99 that has been painted.
  19. I really don't understand why the Bubs didn't fit right. I have RSTD mufflers on my RSV and they bolted right up and look great.
  20. I bought my wife a 535 Virago a few years ago and she just hated it. It has more rake to the front end than some of the other bikes and the throttle was very sensitive. I think they are great looking bikes and I thought a perfect size for her but she just really didn't like the way it handled. Now these issues might not apply to anybody else, folks are all different but I would suggest that whatever you choose, try to let her ride it before buying. I know that it may not be possible though.
  21. Well this is one of those "duh" things but I have to say it. Make SURE you didn't accidentally switch it to headsets.
  22. Great write up. I also copied it to the tech library.
  23. Thanks for all the kind words and prayers. I finished the radiation treatments yesterday morning and then headed home. It is a 700 mile drive and I had planned to stop somewhere but really wanted to get home so ended up driving all the way. Wasn't too bad, walked into the house about 8:30 last night but was completely beat. Decided to check my email before I went to bed but when I saw there were almost 400 emails, I decided it could wait until this morning. I'm doing OK. The eye is a bit sore but not bad at all. Vision is a little blurry but at this time, I think it's more from the ointment that I have to use twice a day more than anything else. It's just a waiting game now. I have to go to my local doctor in 6 weeks just to make sure that the eye is healing properly and then back to Boston in 6 months for a series of tests to see if they got all the cancer. In the meantime, I could lose some or all of the sight in that eye but that too is a waiting game. As the radiation continues to work on the cancer, it will also be killing good cells very close to the optic nerve. I hate to lose the sight but the more important thing is that the cancer is taken care of. I plan to take it pretty easy this weekend. Have a few things I need to get done around the house. I plan to work this week but haven't decided if I will go out of town or just work the local area here. Then week after next, I have our annual spring sales meeting in Minnesota and Iowa. They have told me that I can skip it if I don't feel like attending but I'll probably go anyway. Plenty to do here though. The air conditioner went out on the car just before we left for Boston. It goes into the shop on Monday morning. Then we got a call from my son on Wednesday while in Boston. He is playing on the high school tennis team and got hit with a tennis raquet and chipped a front tooth pretty good. Gotta get him to a dentist this week for some work. So.....life continues. Never a dull moment around here. I feel pretty good though and my spirits are high. Bring it on..........
  24. Bill, I would love to get down there but it's not likely to happen. I NEED to get back to work now. I have a week at home and then a sales meeting in Minnesota if I feel like going. Will have to see.
  25. Well folks, I am now finished with 4 days of radiation. I have one more treatment tomorrow morning and then am headed home. Other than my eye feeling like it is a bit burned, all seems to be going OK. Really ready for it to be over with though. After tomorrow, we start the waiting game. I guess I really won't know much until I come back in June for all the tests and etc. again. My vision is a bit cloudy in the right eye but I can still see at this time. They say it can take a couple of months or even up to a couple of years though before I lose the sight. I'm thankful to still have it today though. I have to say that the folks here in Boston, both at the hospital and those we run into elsewhere have been a very friendly bunch of people.
