What am I doing wrong ??
Freebird replied to gradona's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
On the control pod, push the "Select" button until IC comes up on the display. Then use the rocker switch to turn the IC volume up to about 15. Make sure the rear volume control, on the left rear speaker pod, is turned up. Then just speak into the microphones, do NOT use the push to talk switch, that is only for the CB.- 17 replies

Congrats to him and I'm envious. I took lessons about 20 years ago but never finished. It was much less expensive then but I had problems with an instructor who didn't bother to show up about half the time and I got frustrated and quit. Too expensive for me now but I sure wish I had finished.

OK...but you still don't press the switch to use the Intercom. That is only for talking on the CB. To use the Intercom, just talk, the mic is always hot.

Josh, What year is your bike? If it's a second gen ('99-present), you don't click anything to use the intercom. The push to talk button is only for the CB. Intercom is always hot. Make sure the volume is turned up on the rear and make sure the IC volume is turned up in the controller. I run mine on about 15. Don

GAS mileage question
Freebird replied to knifeeven's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
In my opinion, disconnecting or plugging the AIS will have no effect at all on gas mileage. I have run many miles with it connected and then disconnected and never saw a difference in mileage. -
Sorry about the few minutes of downtime this morning. Seems that we exceeded our allotted bandwidth this month. I have increased it so we should be good for a long time now.

MMMMmmm.. Seat MUCH better now!
Freebird replied to similost's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Several years ago, I rebuilt the seat on the Harley FXRD that I owned at that time. I found that most of the foam was too soft. I bought one of those block of foam in the exercise department at Walmart that is used for doing stair step exercises. It was a very hard/dense foam and made a fantastic base. I then used a softer foam for an insert in it. It worked very well. -
There is no video but there are step by step instructions here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=258 A video is not a bad idea. Maybe that is something that we can do in the near future.

I haven't come to a final decision about that yet. I will seek all your input on that subject before I do anything.

It's up to you. I have removed the monthly option but you can continue to use it until it expires if you wish. I would prefer the yearly method but if enough of you want the monthly option, I will add it back.

Sailor, you may be looking in the wrong place. I did receive yours and you are marked paid.

I got it corrected. I had already credited Noddy. Don't know how yours ended up two years. Thanks for letting me know.

I just finished updating alll the profiles for those of you who have paid your VentureRider dues via PayPal OR mail. Please go to your UserCP and then scroll down until you see "Paid Subscriptions" in the left menu. It should show your paid subscription there. If you sent a check by mail and just recently sent it, then I may have not yet received it but I have entered all that I have received. I'm thinking in about two more weeks I will start making the changes that will restrict posting to subscribed members only. Thanks, Don

John, I have some that I bought off Ebay a year or so ago just in case I ever needed one. PM me your address and I'll get one over nighted to you tomorrow. I don't know where the nearest FedX is. Will UPS overnight or second day be OK?

Just wondering if anybody here has tried shortening the cable for the Zumo XM unit? I wish it was only about 12" long. Even in my car, I sit it on the dash right under the windshield mount for the unit. A 12" cable would be plenty.

The CD player is made by Clarion. You could buy a brand new one from several online sources for around $120.00 at one time. I think it has been discontinued though. If I remember correctly, it is a C-Bus. I bought one years ago for about $125.00 with shipping included but only used it for a couple of months before getting rid of it and going to MP3. If I remember correctly, the stock radio is made by Clarion also.

A story for Freebird- Bike helped save his life
Freebird replied to Sparhawks Sue's topic in Watering Hole
Great story and I agree with you completely. It's funny how quickly your life can change. It was only a few weeks ago that I, like most guys, thought I was pretty much bullet proof. Hopefully I have MANY more years left to bother all you fine folks but the truth is, none of us know for sure how long we have on this old earth. There really are some changes that I need to make in the way I eat, exercise, etc. but the fact is you just never know. It will be 6 months before I go back and all the test will be done again to determine if they were successful in treating the cancer but I don't intend to stop living and sit around worrying about it no more than I have to. Yes, I feel very blessed that they found this when they did. The prognosis could have been much worse. -
I bought an AirHawk several years ago. It rated highest in a bike magazine that tested several cushions. Just didn't work for me. I sold it after a few months. Some people really like them though.

Dang it Jeff, I am happy for you if it is what you want but sad that you will be away. I know that things have gotten much better over there but there is still plenty of danger. PLEASE take care of yourself and watch your back. We will truly miss you. Maybe you could send Mini instead?

Fork Air Balance Kit
Freebird replied to awsmsrv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
WOW...it was about 9 years ago that I did that little job. I really don't remember but I know that I made something in my toolbox work. Did buy or make anything special. -
My wife bought me a Rider2 for Christmas. The one thing that I didn't like about it was that it had no hard wired audio out. Only bluetooth out. That means that if you want to play the MP3 or hear the voice commands through the bikes system, you have to buy some type of bluetooth adapter. I returned it and bought a Zumo and have been very pleased with it.

Also, if it was a midnight, it would have chromed forks. I can't tell for sure from that picture but I don't think they are chrome. I agree that it is probably a '99 that has been painted.

modify stock mufflers?
Freebird replied to royal rider's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I really don't understand why the Bubs didn't fit right. I have RSTD mufflers on my RSV and they bolted right up and look great. -
I bought my wife a 535 Virago a few years ago and she just hated it. It has more rake to the front end than some of the other bikes and the throttle was very sensitive. I think they are great looking bikes and I thought a perfect size for her but she just really didn't like the way it handled. Now these issues might not apply to anybody else, folks are all different but I would suggest that whatever you choose, try to let her ride it before buying. I know that it may not be possible though.
