Just wondering if anybody here has tried shortening the cable for the Zumo XM unit? I wish it was only about 12" long. Even in my car, I sit it on the dash right under the windshield mount for the unit. A 12" cable would be plenty.

The CD player is made by Clarion. You could buy a brand new one from several online sources for around $120.00 at one time. I think it has been discontinued though. If I remember correctly, it is a C-Bus. I bought one years ago for about $125.00 with shipping included but only used it for a couple of months before getting rid of it and going to MP3. If I remember correctly, the stock radio is made by Clarion also.

A story for Freebird- Bike helped save his life
Freebird replied to Sparhawks Sue's topic in Watering Hole
Great story and I agree with you completely. It's funny how quickly your life can change. It was only a few weeks ago that I, like most guys, thought I was pretty much bullet proof. Hopefully I have MANY more years left to bother all you fine folks but the truth is, none of us know for sure how long we have on this old earth. There really are some changes that I need to make in the way I eat, exercise, etc. but the fact is you just never know. It will be 6 months before I go back and all the test will be done again to determine if they were successful in treating the cancer but I don't intend to stop living and sit around worrying about it no more than I have to. Yes, I feel very blessed that they found this when they did. The prognosis could have been much worse. -
I bought an AirHawk several years ago. It rated highest in a bike magazine that tested several cushions. Just didn't work for me. I sold it after a few months. Some people really like them though.

Dang it Jeff, I am happy for you if it is what you want but sad that you will be away. I know that things have gotten much better over there but there is still plenty of danger. PLEASE take care of yourself and watch your back. We will truly miss you. Maybe you could send Mini instead?

Fork Air Balance Kit
Freebird replied to awsmsrv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
WOW...it was about 9 years ago that I did that little job. I really don't remember but I know that I made something in my toolbox work. Did buy or make anything special. -
My wife bought me a Rider2 for Christmas. The one thing that I didn't like about it was that it had no hard wired audio out. Only bluetooth out. That means that if you want to play the MP3 or hear the voice commands through the bikes system, you have to buy some type of bluetooth adapter. I returned it and bought a Zumo and have been very pleased with it.

Also, if it was a midnight, it would have chromed forks. I can't tell for sure from that picture but I don't think they are chrome. I agree that it is probably a '99 that has been painted.

modify stock mufflers?
Freebird replied to royal rider's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I really don't understand why the Bubs didn't fit right. I have RSTD mufflers on my RSV and they bolted right up and look great. -
I bought my wife a 535 Virago a few years ago and she just hated it. It has more rake to the front end than some of the other bikes and the throttle was very sensitive. I think they are great looking bikes and I thought a perfect size for her but she just really didn't like the way it handled. Now these issues might not apply to anybody else, folks are all different but I would suggest that whatever you choose, try to let her ride it before buying. I know that it may not be possible though.

Help I cannot hear a thing, 2nd Gen. Lost volume control
Freebird replied to Busta's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Well this is one of those "duh" things but I have to say it. Make SURE you didn't accidentally switch it to headsets. -
Thanks for all the kind words and prayers. I finished the radiation treatments yesterday morning and then headed home. It is a 700 mile drive and I had planned to stop somewhere but really wanted to get home so ended up driving all the way. Wasn't too bad, walked into the house about 8:30 last night but was completely beat. Decided to check my email before I went to bed but when I saw there were almost 400 emails, I decided it could wait until this morning. I'm doing OK. The eye is a bit sore but not bad at all. Vision is a little blurry but at this time, I think it's more from the ointment that I have to use twice a day more than anything else. It's just a waiting game now. I have to go to my local doctor in 6 weeks just to make sure that the eye is healing properly and then back to Boston in 6 months for a series of tests to see if they got all the cancer. In the meantime, I could lose some or all of the sight in that eye but that too is a waiting game. As the radiation continues to work on the cancer, it will also be killing good cells very close to the optic nerve. I hate to lose the sight but the more important thing is that the cancer is taken care of. I plan to take it pretty easy this weekend. Have a few things I need to get done around the house. I plan to work this week but haven't decided if I will go out of town or just work the local area here. Then week after next, I have our annual spring sales meeting in Minnesota and Iowa. They have told me that I can skip it if I don't feel like attending but I'll probably go anyway. Plenty to do here though. The air conditioner went out on the car just before we left for Boston. It goes into the shop on Monday morning. Then we got a call from my son on Wednesday while in Boston. He is playing on the high school tennis team and got hit with a tennis raquet and chipped a front tooth pretty good. Gotta get him to a dentist this week for some work. So.....life continues. Never a dull moment around here. I feel pretty good though and my spirits are high. Bring it on..........

Bill, I would love to get down there but it's not likely to happen. I NEED to get back to work now. I have a week at home and then a sales meeting in Minnesota if I feel like going. Will have to see.

Well folks, I am now finished with 4 days of radiation. I have one more treatment tomorrow morning and then am headed home. Other than my eye feeling like it is a bit burned, all seems to be going OK. Really ready for it to be over with though. After tomorrow, we start the waiting game. I guess I really won't know much until I come back in June for all the tests and etc. again. My vision is a bit cloudy in the right eye but I can still see at this time. They say it can take a couple of months or even up to a couple of years though before I lose the sight. I'm thankful to still have it today though. I have to say that the folks here in Boston, both at the hospital and those we run into elsewhere have been a very friendly bunch of people.

Don't know if it helps or not but the pinout for the headsets is in the tech library here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=499- 76 replies

Yea, I knew he would get in touch. He's a good guy. I was sorry to hear that he is no longer riding. Hopefully he will be again soon. Finished second round of radiation early today. Seemed to go a bit easier and quicker today. Slight headache but otherwise no big deal. Still tired though.

Thanks folks. Had first radiation treatment this morning. Wasn't bad at all. The only thing that hurt was them putting this spreader on my eye lids. WOW...how far do they think they are SUPPOSED to open. I felt like they were ripping them off my face...I'm sure they had my upper eyelid stretched over the top of my head. Otherwise, it was OK and didn't take long at all. I felt fine when we left so we drove over to the Aquarium and also saw an IMAX movie. Back at the room now though and I am really tired. Don't know if it has anything to do with the radiation or not but I DO know that I am going to take a nap now. Next treatment is tomorrow morning at 8:40...actually ... they are 8:40 every morning through Friday. Did I mention that I really don't enjoy driving in Boston and WHY does it cost so much to part here. Geezzzzzzzzzzzzzz
-
It's fairly simple. I think that 7.5 will get you close enough. You can test it then by going for a ride and checking it against the mileage markers on the highway. Just sit it on 60 MPH and use your second hand or a stop watch to verify that it takes 60 seconds. Best to check it over a span of several miles as the markers are not always dead on. You will be very close though.

OK folks, Eileen and I will be leaving for Boston in just a little while. I will start the radiation treatments on Monday. There will be 5 consecutive days of radiation and then we'll head home on Friday. In the meantime, if you have purchased a membership through PayPal, it should be indicated in your UserCP under "Paid Subscriptions". I think I have them all entered so if yours does not show up, then let me know. If you mailed a check, it may or may not be there yet. I have entered the information for the checks that I have received to date but I'm sure that some have not arrived yet. If you paid by check and don't see a paid subscription in your profile, don't worry about it, I'm sure your check will be here when I get home and I'll get everybody updated then. I really want to thank each and every one of you who have subscribed. Some have gone far beyond what was asked and please know that it is sincerely appreciated. I have been snowed under and have not been able to email each of you personally but please know that your kindness is so much appreciated. While I am gone, please give some thought to how you would like the forum to be handled. There are several ways I can do it now. We can have it open for all to read but only paid members to post. We can have it with a short trial membership but only members can read OR post once the trial ends. We can leave it just like it is and simply add some time of indicator to the posts that indicates supporting members. I am open to all suggestions and your opinions are what count. Give it some thought and let me hear your suggestions. I will have my computer with me and hopefully feel like checking in each day. I don't know what else to say at this point. You are the greatest group of folks I have ever been associated with. This entire ordeal has been and continues to be a humbling experience.

I'm very happy for you both. Mary, I have never met you but if you have won Gary's heart then you are obviously a very special person. He is the best. I look forward to meeting you in June.

No, I haven't gotten it all set up yet. At this time, he would just register using the links in the upper menu bar. You won't see them, only visitors see the register links. After he registers, he can go to his or her UserCP and scroll down to paid subscriptions.

I think I've told this story before but will do so again. In 1998 I went to Sturgis on my Honda Shadow Ace. I camped at Glencoe right in the middle of a bunch of riders that were probably in the 1 percenter category. Rough looking crowd and I was just a bit apprehensive about it but figured what the heck. It turned out that they were as nice as any group of riders I had ever associated with. There was not a single negative comment made about what kind of bike I rode. To them, it was all about riding and that was all that mattered. I doubt that any of these guys were members of HOG but some may have been. In my limited experience, I have found that the true Harley bikers really don't care. It is usually the younger "yuppie" crowd that exibit the attitude that we are talking about. It's the young crowd that likes to ride their Harley from bar to bar or hang out at their local Quaker Steak bike night that are more apt to make comments about the ricer burners. I personally don't care. I let it go in one ear and out the other...very little between my ears to stop it... I've admitted many times and will do so again, I do like the Harley bikes. I love the history, I love the sound, I love the look. I've owned them before and had very few problems. I would like to have one in the garage now parked right beside my RSV but it is not financially feasible at this time and I certainly don't want to sell the RSV. When I bought my RSV in '99 though, I could have bought anything I wanted at that time and I chose the RSV for a number of reasons that were important to me. I guess all I'm saying is that I don't think it's the bike that creates these attitudes in some riders. I think that there has to be some type of insecurity in them that leads to the mentality that they must fit into a certain group. There are many riders of other bikes that are pretty much the same way.

I was TRYING to forget about that.
