  1. Rick's are stainless steel also though. I don't know of anybody who makes the longer cables in anything but stainless.
  2. It doesn't always work but I've seen several instances where it was just a matter of very slightly moving the wires. Under the left side of the gas tank, the wires from the audio run very close to the front coil. I've just slightly pulled them to the side and completely done away with the static/clicking sound.
  3. I agree with the ignition switch as the probably cause. I would also check the side stand switch. One other thing but I don't know if that bike had them or not. The '99 and newer RSV has a "lean angle" switch. A good friend had a brand new 2000 RSV with a bad lean angle switch and his bike was asking just like that.
  4. Sorry Gary...just saw your post and I'm already back home now.
  5. Guys, see this thread. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35281&highlight=manuals
  6. Don't worry Dan...it is sold again. The proud new owner will be AdVenturer.
  7. I misunderstood. I thought you were asking WHERE to order a new system. If you have already replace it with a new one, then that shouldn't be the problem. Are you familiar with how it works? The class system only works with the key in the ACC position. You should not be getting the error code on a new system though.
  8. Very common. Take a look at this thread. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=493
  9. Yep....here is what they look like. This is an '86 model.
  10. I think the last time I used Honda Pre-Mixed just because I had some handy.
  11. Yes, that is not too far from me. Send a PM with all the info and I'll check it out for you. Don
  12. Does it do anything at all? When the key is on, does he get lights, dash, etc.? Does it try to turn over but just not start or just does nothing at all? There are a few things that could cause this. There is a relay just behind the engine under the center cover that went out on Sleeperhawks bike at Maintenance day a couple of years ago. Could also be the side stand switch. More details MIGHT help....not sure though.
  13. Yes, I'll be around. Just give me a call or PM and let me know what day.
  14. Well, my brother in law slept on it last night and decided that he just doesn't need to buy a motorcycle right now. So this one will still be available. I've got to replace or repair the computerized monitor but otherwise, I haven't found anything wrong with it. I did find that it has a VMAX rear in it also.
  15. Sure, if you don't mind. I'll PM you my address.
  16. OK folks, the guy told me that the fuel gauge was out on the '89 but I just figured I would find a bad fuse or something. Actually, the entire computerized monitor is dead. NOTHING is working on it. Fuel gauge, warning indicators, even the clock below. I pulled it out last night and we resoldered all the pins on where the connectors plug in but still nothing at all. I then checked for power and according to the wiring diagram, the black wire is ground and I think it was red that was hot. Anyway, it is getting power when you turn on the key but nothing is working. Does anybody have a spare for sale or even that I could use to make sure that it's the monitor itself that is bad. Unless some of you have other ideas, I've about determined that the actual monitor is bad.
  17. Well believe it or not, it really wasn't the performance but the fuel mileage. I went from near 40 MPH to down around 32 MPG. Driving normal, it ran fine. I did find though that when I hammered it, it just didn't have the power that it did before.

I think you have done a wonderful thing and I hope a lot of money is raised through your generous donation.
  19. You are not the first to break those tabs. Here is any easy fix. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=516
  20. OK...about the power. I don't know what to say really...this bike is smooth and FAST. I've owned an '83 and an '88 and they both ran good but nothing like this bike. It will literally set you back against the backrest when you hammer that throttle. I hate to admit it folks for for a very brief second.....I actually had thoughts of selling the RSV and keeping it. Even mentioned it to my wife. This thing accelerated like a crotch rocket. It is pretty much a touring bike on steroids. It also has what I think is a SuperBrace, Rivco spin on oil filter adapter....most of the things that many people look for on the first gens.
  21. Well....there is good news and bad news. The good news is that I think the bike is sold. The bad news is that my brother in law is probably buying it and I will sell it to him for what I paid for it. So much for trying to make a little profit. He will be joining the club here though. I pulled the top cover and one of the side panels off. Whoever did the VMAX conversion seemed to do a very professional job. I also see now that it has 4 individual K&N filters under the top cover. There is a toggle switch on the dash beside the class system that I'm not sure what does. I wonder if it has anything to do with the VBOOST but I have no idea at this point. I guess I'll have to trace the wires and try to figure it out.
  22. OK folks...just pulled into the driveway with it. Eileen dropped me off and I may have taken a bit of a long way home. I tell you folks, this bike runs strong and handles very well. No wobble of any kind when I took my hands off the bars. I'm not sure what kind of mufflers these are but they sound GREAT. Not obnoxiously loud but a very nice growl. I've never ridden a VMax but this one is supposed to have VMax cams in it and though it idles very good, there is a bit of a lope that I've not heard on stock Ventures. Maybe somebody more familiar with the VMax can tell me if that is normal. Anyway, here are some pics.
  23. I know that Sierra lists a bluetooth adapter that I think does what you are asking but I haven't ever used one. You might give them a call. They can tell you exactly what it does and if it will work for you. They are great people. http://www.sierra-mc.com
  24. I'll take some pictures when I get it home later today.
