Sounds good to me. Actually, Bob Dakin has asked me about pulling his carbs and checking the floats. We were planning on doing it on another day because it takes a bit of time. Do you need a donor bike? I'm sure he would be willing. Also, you may appreciate knowing that I have picked up a portable canopy that will be setup in the driveway. We won't have to do everything under the hot sun.

The dues are 12.00 per year. You can pay by PayPal by going to your UserCP and then scrolling down until you see "Paid Subscriptions" in the left menu. OK folks, I got sidetracked because of a couple of issues. The new usergroup was having a problem with the classifieds and then with some missing menu links on the home page. Finally got both of those problems figured out so will get back to moving people to the proper group. Will try to get some done tonight. I'm in Indianapolis at a trade show so not a lot of free time right now but will get done what I can each evening. Thanks much for your patience. For those of you who haven't subscribed, this DID buy you a little more before you lose access.

Any type of MP3 player with flash memory will work fine. An IPOD Nano is one recommendation and works very well. You can get one with 8GB of flash memory and that will hold a LOT of songs. I used a regular IPOD for a long time and never had any problems but many folks have had a problem with them because they have a hard drive and hard drives aren't really crazy about vibration. A lot of us also use XM or Sirius radio. Either is easy to use on the RSV as you can just use a short patch cable from the MP3 player or satellite radio and plug it right into the aux port on the cassette player. If you don't like having to leave the door to the cassette player open, a lot of us have opened up the fairing and plugged a splitter into the aux cable and brought one out separately.

hmmm......bet it doesn't even have a cassette deck.

99 RSV Gas Mileage
Freebird replied to Yamastretch's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well...I wouldn't say that it's hard but it is time consuming. The carbs have to be removed to do it. -
Yea, you guys are right. There are some links missing for the new group on the home page. I'm trying to figure it out but it may take me a couple of days. I'm tied up doing a trade show in Indianapolis through Saturday evening so have limited time right now. Hopefully will get it straightened out one evening though.

I lost my New Posts link from tool bar
Freebird replied to dogman's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
Apparently those who have already been moved to the "Supporting Members" group have lost that link. It is very strange but I'll figure it out ASAP. -
There are a number of us here running VMAX rears in our RSVs for exactly the reason you describe. I honestly think it is one of the best modifications I've ever done. There are two ways it can be done. Either remove the gears from a VMAX rear and install them in your rear end or use the complete VMAX assembly and machine the mounting area and hole for the speedo sensor. There is one other option and it is the one that I and several others here chose. Go to http://www.rmsportmax.com and buy/exhange there.

No...NOTHING has disappeared. Well...it did for a day or two but everything is back now. I'm not sure what you mean by a new post button though. If you mean "New Posts" that you click on to see any new posts since your last visit, it is still there. If you mean a "New Post" button to post a new message, there never has been one and don't know how it would work because it wouldn't know which area you want to post in.

Hey folks, just throwing this out there to see if there is any interest, if not, no big deal. There is a local pinstriper in the Cleveland area that does really nice pinstripes, cartoon characters, etc. on bikes of all kinds. I have asked him if he would be interested in setting up and doing some of this work on bikes at Maintenance Day. He is interested but can't commit because his wife is expecting on June 11th. He said he would like to do it though and will try to make it IF there is any interest. So...is there any interest? He does pinstripes, names, characters, etc. Don't know what his prices are but I know that he typically charged about $100.00 per bike but said that he does give group rates. I will find out more if there is any interest but don't want to waste his time if there is not.

JT, Whether you post or lurk, you are still one of us. You've been through a lot and we share your hurt. Life throws us a lot of curve balls sometimes and we all deal with them in different ways. Take the time you need and don't feel bad if you just don't feel like posting right now. When you are ready, we'll be here for you my friend.

Vibration in grips - numb hand
Freebird replied to oneway's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I agree. I even tried the very good KuryAkyn grips WITH the stock end weights and my hands still got numb. I went back to my foam padded Yamaha RoadStar grips that I had installed long ago and am much happier. You might also want to make sure your carbs are well synced. If not, you may be getting some excess vibration. -
OK folks, it may seem like a long ways off for some of you but it's really not very far away and only 20 people have signed up to be there. PLEASE go to the calendar and RSVP as soon as you can. It is hard to plan a rally when you don't know how many people to expect. We have to let the caterers know how many for the dinners and etc. This will be a LOT of fun and Eileen and I look forward to seeing every body there. The link to the calendar is: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=97&day=2009-08-03 Registration page for the rally is: http://dchwestfall.com/2009_VentureRider_Rally.html Now come on folks...Snarley Bill and all is coerced volunteers are doing a great job planning this one. Let's ALL show up. You will not regret it.

Well, I don't know but take a look at this diagram and see if it helps any. http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/showschematic/m7861sch124595

Yea, I didn't even remember that being on there but yes, it should probably be removed. Can you do it or do I need to edit them? I will edit them but probably won't get to it for a few days.

I have deleted the three posts with links to the forwardon websites. I think that most of us were getting security warnings about viruses or trojans when clicking on those links. They were posted here by a longtime member and so I'm absolutely sure it wasn't done with malicious intent but just one of those things that happen sometimes.

I agree. My wife isn't very big either but I run about 35 lbs. in the rear. Also, these bikes are NOT level by design. Many of us have added the leveling links to raise the rear about an inch.

Noisy front brake and squeaky rear shock
Freebird replied to greyghost's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Are the brake pads still the stock pads that came on the bike? If so, they have a tendency to be noisy. Replace them with some EBC HH pads and you'll probably be much happier.
