Not rusty, painted over with brown paint. The kids get pretty bored around here it seems.

That just down right sucks. I hate it when companies pull that mess. I bought my Corbin used from a fellow member years ago and love it and it fit perfectly but for the price they charge new, there should be ZERO problems and if there is a problem, you should not even be paying return shipping, much less the cost for a complete new seat. It seems that many of these seat companies have a lot to learn about customer service. I previously had a TravelCade Roadsofa that I hated and wanted them to work on for me. They never answered a single email that I sent to them. It was a terrible fit, about a 1" gap between the nose of the seat and the gas tank. That was just one problem but there were major comfort issues also. I was willing to pay for the modifications but they wouldn't even respond.

OK....I know it is too much money but I saw something similar to this demonstrated at a rally one year and it was really slick. http://www.goodguyspowersports.com/tkloader.php?gclid=COD7vt3osZoCFRIeDQodBhvEcg

OK folks, I've received a few emails asking me if it's OK for you to have various items shipped to my house for pickup and/or installation on Maintenance Day. The answer is YES...that is no problem at all. I've already received several packages here and you are welcome to send whatever you need to. Heck...what I don't use before then will be here when you arrive.

here's a carb question for you...?
Freebird replied to jasonm.'s topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Jason, Don't know if you've ever used one or how much it will help but I have a Colortune I can mail to you if you want to try it. If I send it now, I would ask that you please try to have it back to me by June 6th which is Maintenance Day. Don -
I think that's a great idea....now if I can just remember to do it.

I hate these carbs
Freebird replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Boo, I agree that they probably don't change much but I can tell you that Yamaha doesn't go to great pains to get them right to start with. Of the 5 or 6 people I know that have checked their floats on the RSV, all have been off pretty badly. None have been consistent from one carb to the next. -
As for the tires on the RSV, remember that those are Bridgestones and most of us here really hate those tires. I wouldn't worry much about the wear pattern as you don't know what kind of riding the previous owner did, how close he watched inflation and the fact that...as I mentioned...they are the dratted Bridgestones.

What Year To Buy??
Freebird replied to t-binger's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I think that the complaints about the lack of power of the Royal Stars were the earlier ones. Yamaha came out with a new one in 2005 that is basically the same drive train as the Royal Star Venture but minus the fairing and etc. The earlier Royal Stars were lacking power and there is a air filter modification that helps a lot and larger carbs help also. The '05 models and later though come with plenty of power, about 98HP just as the RSV. -
I try to keep my garage pretty nice. Parking is a bit tight but otherwise, it works OK for me.

I personally think that the 3100 is a terrible engine. You can almost rest assured that it is going to need an intake gasket right away or very soon. My favorite in the later GM engines was the 3800. I had one in a Bonneville and that was a really good engine. Great gas mileage. I bought it new and put about 130,000 miles on it and it was never in the shop for any reason. It also got in the high 20's on the highway.

RSV Windshield Question
Freebird replied to GaThumper's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I agree 100% about NOT using the suction mount. I use the Ram mount that came with the Zumo on the bike but use the sunction mount in my company Dodge Caravan and every once in a while it falls off the windshield. It lands on the dash and hasn't hurt anything yet but I hate when it falls off. I'm going to try and come up with a different mount for it. -
I SELDOM ever use them but have heard no reports from anybody else at this time.
-
I agree. I think that they are beautiful bukes but I've not heard a lot of good about them on the road. May be worth some money one of these days though.

hmmmmm.....there must be folks out there having a lot more problems filling up that I do. HEY....maybe I should order a couple thousand of them with the VR LOGO. OK...WHO'S IN....who's WITH ME on this?

Pretty cool Rick. Wish I could have been there with you. I don't see any sparks though....we will need for you to do it again at night so that we can see the sparks.

Yes, it has 4 individual K&Ns. I'll try to take some pictures before AdVenturer picks it up. -
WOW !! Like Them Avon Venoms
Freebird replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I've had my Avons for about a year now and really do like them. I've seen WAY too many reports about them cracking lately though. Looks like I will be trying the Dunlop Elite 3 next time or else going back to Michelin Commanders. -
Most folks here do NOT recommend Metzeler tires at all. There have been MANY instances of them coming apart. The most recommended tires here are Avon, Michelin and Dunlop Elite 3. As for the bias ply tires, that is what came on this bike and is recommended by Yamaha. I'm not sure how a radial would affect the handling since they are not set up for radial tires. Plus, I don't know that I've seen any of the recommended tires in the sizes that we use in radial tires.

I would suspect that somewhere on the trailer is something like a "back off" module. It is an aftermarket device that causes the the lights to flash. It may have very well gone bad. I can't think of anything else, in the way of bad connections, that would cause that behavior.

2" over stock throttle cables
Freebird replied to midnightsunrider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sorry...I think we are on different pages here. I wasn't talking about the color, the original poster was looking for something more like the stock cables because he is trying to keep the cost down. So what I meant was that I don't know of any stock type cables in longer lengths unless you can find some off another bike model that will work. -
Thanks for the suggestions but we'll be OK. I hate setting a price per head. Everybody is welcome and everybody is welcome to eat. If there are those who aren't able to pay, that is fine. If somebody is just too tight to pay, that is fine too.
-
Folks...I appreciate the thought. Mini...you are the best. You better tell Jeff to watch out while he's gone...somebody will steal you away from him. BUT....please don't worry about it. The food is already ordered. I just have to tell them the final count so again I'm asking everybody to go to the calendar and RSVP. It's really no problem because we are going to do it the way we did last year. Have it DELIVERED. I THINK it was pretty good. The donation can worked out just fine and the dollars were very close. So this is really an easy way to do it.

Rick's are stainless steel also though. I don't know of anybody who makes the longer cables in anything but stainless. -
Need Help!
Freebird replied to TourClassic's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
It doesn't always work but I've seen several instances where it was just a matter of very slightly moving the wires. Under the left side of the gas tank, the wires from the audio run very close to the front coil. I've just slightly pulled them to the side and completely done away with the static/clicking sound.
