Agree....quality products and very well designed.

Hope the tests come back with good news but getting the problem corrected will probably save you a lot of grief and pain in the future. We will keep you in our prayers.

The intercom static is a fairly common problem. The wires pass by pretty close to the ignition coil on the left from on the engine. You can usually just reach under and slightly move them towards the outside and it will stop the static. The CB going to receive mode is different. Are you SURE it's going to receive mode? Now I have heard of many reports of a loud feedback through the headsets when you blow the horn and maybe it IS caused by the CB but I've never heard it explained that way. At any rate, that seems to be a not so welcome characteristic of the these bikes and I'm not sure of a fix. Being that you bike is an '09 model, I think I would give the dealer a chance to figure it out. Don

You could also try Rick at http://www.buckeyeperformance.com Don't know which place would be cheaper though.

Try here. Just enter John Deere Decals in the search box. They have them for most tractors. http://search.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/fastsrch.pl

I've got a tach now but did it for years without one. I just screw in the idle screw just a tad to get the RPMs up a little bit. I usually idle at around 800 or so and just increase it slightly when syncing the carbs. Some people like to sync them at around 2000 or so but for me, it just hasn't make that much difference. Once I get them synced and then raise the RPMs, they seem to stay fairly close. When you initially blip the throttle, they may look to be off but if you hold it steady for a few seconds, they come back pretty close.

special thanks to freebird.also dealer..and a question

Well, in my opinion, even with the upgraded stator, you are just putting too much load on the system. From what I've read, Rick's stator is certainly better than stock but still limited. It doesn't take a lot of heated clothes before you run out of capacity. From everything you've described about the voltage at cruising speed and etc., it sounds like it is working properly. If you had a problem on the bike, it would show up before you started turning on your heated clothing. -
I hate these carbs

OK.....that's MUCH better. Very nice bike but I think I would really need to see it in person to be sure. You may as well head over to Ohio for Maintenance Day. -
They look great and that is a bargain. Good job.

Glad you got it sorted out but for future reference, the screws are labeled incorrectly in the Yamaha service manuals...unless they have corrected it in the later editions. The correct procedure is in the tech library here. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=258

I'm still mulling all that over. Those that don't pay will still likely be able to read the posts and etc. and many will still probably join us at our meet and eats and etc. They will still be considered members but there will be members and then supporting members where supporting members will have all the current privileges. I will be starting the transition on Monday. I have already created a new usergroup named "Supporting Member" and all those who have paid will be moved to that group. After I have everybody moved to the new group, then the permissions for the old "registered" group will be changed. I figure that by about this time next week, the transition should be fairly complete. Depending on how busy I get with other things this week.

Renault LeCar? I HOPE you are kidding. The very worse car I have ever owned was a Renault 18i Sport Wagon. It literally caught on fire 3 times.

Works for me, I would be happy to add it to the home page. What about it folks? Let's hear your suggestions.

I agree completely. As most of you know, I travel quite a lot so I eat out a lot also. Anytime I'm in a restaurant and see military personnel, I just quietly tell the waitress to add their meal to my bill. I figure it's the very least that I can do for them.

Harley has made a lot of nice changes over the past few years. Some major but not so noticeable changes on the '09 models. I like the color of yours also but my favorite was the solid pearl white that the had in '08. Doesn't matter though, I won't be buying one anytime soon. Hope it brings you many miles of smiles. That's what it's all about regardless of the brand.

Bought an '89 Venture SS....FOR SALE
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Good deal. Glad you had a nice ride home and that the bike ran good. I think it will be a good bike for you for a LONG time. Sure sounded good as you were heading down the driveway. -
All you need to bring is what you will use on your bike. Oil, filters, etc. Also, I may have a little beer on hand but I really don't supply the beer so if you want any, feel free to bring it. Just a note for all though and most already know this....there is not a LOT of drinking that goes on during these things. We make try to take a ride later in the day and drinking and riding just don't seem to go hand in hand.

I have no idea about the carb drain tubes. It's been a long time since I owned a first gen and don't remember if my '88 had those or not. -

I saw the hose...probably close to 1" diameter. I figured it was for an engine breather but couldn't tell where it went exactly. -

Oh...and the '89 will be headed to it's new home in Buffalo, NY later today. I wish I could have put a few miles on it but it just sold before I could do so. It really is a sweet running bike. -

Jason, Yes, it has VMAX cams and valve springs. I have not ridden it hard and certainly nowhere near the 9,000 RPM range. In fact, the only time I rode it was when the day that I bought it and rode it home. Once it was sold and I had a deposit on it, I didn't feel that I had the right to ride it any longer. Now from what I can tell, and I don't know much about the VBoost system, there is no servo on it so the VBoost is open all the time. I talked to my good friend Rick Butler in Texas about this. Rick built a Venture SS several years ago and told me that he did not use the servo and the VBoost was active all the time on his also. I then did some research online and found that even a lot fo VMAX riders remove or disable the servo so that the VBoost is active at all times. That appears to be the case with this one from what I can tell. It also explains why is has such a lope at idle. It sure sounds good though. I tried to take some pictures but it is kind of hard to get them. Here they are though. -

You just aren't right. -
I've seen them demonstrated at a couple of bike shows and they worked really slick.

Well.....I can't really comment on any of this without seeing some pictures first. Of the redhead I mean.
