I am sorry to report that as of June 1st, the discount from Motorcycle Superstore has been discontinued. I know that many of you had used it and hopefully there will be something else in place soon. Here is the notice that I received from them today. Hi Don, Due to the manufacturers MAP policy (minimum advertised price) we are no longer allowed to offer general group discounts. However, there are a few brands and exclusive items that are separate from the MAP policy. So yes, I will be sending you a new sort of code, but it will be item and/or specific, which unfortunately isn’t as enticing as a general coupon, but I will do my best to make the offer as enticing as possible. Unfortunately there will be a small delay, I apologize, but I will be in touch as soon as possible. Thank you for understanding.

Nobody specific to check in with. Just get there and then let me or Kent (V7Goose) or Brad on ONE of us know. It's pretty informal. We are going to try and be a bit more organized this year. There will be a donation can for food and whatever else you wish to donate for.

Front Wheel Removal questions
Freebird replied to johnny-canuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It is very simply. It is possible to pull the wheel without pulling the brakes but much easier to just pull the calipers, only two bolts on each side. Makes it much easier to get the wheel back on and also easier to inspect the pads. -
Improving gas mileage...
Freebird replied to 5bikes's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You are correct though. Most new bikes run LEAN from the factory due to the EPA requirements, NOT rich. -
For the Bushtec, you can get a hitch directly from Bushtec or you can buy just the pin from them and use it on any hitch.
-
I absolutely LOVE the Bushtec trailers. I think they are the best made. The prices are high but in line with other upper end trailers. To each his own. I know that some folks would never pay that much for a trailer but for others, it is worth the money to them. That being said, we MAY be giving away a different brand at the Rally this year. Bushtec has changed ownership and are not offering the same deal for club's as they have in the past. I am probably going to be looking at some other brands this year. Not sure yet which way we will go.

I moved mine back YEARS ago and many others have also. Maybe they have changed the rubber piece. Mine sat right on it.

Really sorry to hear it Vin. Eileen and I were really looking forward to seeing you both again.

Where is the best place to buy Pelican cases???????
Freebird replied to muffinman's topic in Watering Hole
Jeff, Try here, they seem to be a little better. http://www.caseclub.com/pelican.htm?gclid=CPPlh9Xn4poCFQQrFQodzDPUBw The company that I work for actually has a case division also but I think ours are more expensive. http://www.gemstarmfg.com/ -
Where is the best place to buy Pelican cases???????
Freebird replied to muffinman's topic in Watering Hole
Not seeing any real bargains on them anywhere. This place has them but the price is almost as much as from the manufacturer http://www.unitedcase-pelican.com/product.php?productid=11&cat=0&page=1 -
Leveling link hight
Freebird replied to piper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
You don't have to shorten them very much to raise it one inch. See this thread. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=492 -
Jonas, Try sending a PM to ediddy. He is an insurance agent and a good guy. Maybe he has some options for you or can at least help explain it to you.

Anyone ever put a hypercharger on a 1100 vstar?
Freebird replied to big mike's topic in Watering Hole
I have no idea on the VStar but read a good report about the Hypercharger on the Harleys at one time. They did all sort of dyno tests and etc. and found absolutely NO performance increases. They do look good though. -
Folks, I will just ask you to please read Kent's first post. This is a clinic to show folks HOW it is done. I can tell you from having done my own, this is not something that we can do for everybody in the time that we have allotted. Pulling the carbs, setting the floats, re-installing them takes a bit of time and it's just not a job that we can have people lined up for and have time to get done. I think what Kent is saying is that we can do a set as an educational clinic so that people can do it when they get back home. Kent can correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe he is a lot faster at it than I am. This goes not only for setting carb floats but for any major jobs. Maintenance day is about doing small jobs, installing some accessories, things that can be done relatively quickly. We have, in the past, tackled some projects that were really much larger than we should have and there was just not really enough time for some of them. The plan this year is to cut off the work on the bikes around 4:00-4:30 or so. This will hopefully give us some time to rest up, visit a little bit and for those who wish to do so, take a group ride of some kind. We have worked on bikes so late in the past that many of us were just too worn out to actually go on a ride.
-
Sounds good to me. Actually, Bob Dakin has asked me about pulling his carbs and checking the floats. We were planning on doing it on another day because it takes a bit of time. Do you need a donor bike? I'm sure he would be willing. Also, you may appreciate knowing that I have picked up a portable canopy that will be setup in the driveway. We won't have to do everything under the hot sun.

The dues are 12.00 per year. You can pay by PayPal by going to your UserCP and then scrolling down until you see "Paid Subscriptions" in the left menu. OK folks, I got sidetracked because of a couple of issues. The new usergroup was having a problem with the classifieds and then with some missing menu links on the home page. Finally got both of those problems figured out so will get back to moving people to the proper group. Will try to get some done tonight. I'm in Indianapolis at a trade show so not a lot of free time right now but will get done what I can each evening. Thanks much for your patience. For those of you who haven't subscribed, this DID buy you a little more before you lose access.

Any type of MP3 player with flash memory will work fine. An IPOD Nano is one recommendation and works very well. You can get one with 8GB of flash memory and that will hold a LOT of songs. I used a regular IPOD for a long time and never had any problems but many folks have had a problem with them because they have a hard drive and hard drives aren't really crazy about vibration. A lot of us also use XM or Sirius radio. Either is easy to use on the RSV as you can just use a short patch cable from the MP3 player or satellite radio and plug it right into the aux port on the cassette player. If you don't like having to leave the door to the cassette player open, a lot of us have opened up the fairing and plugged a splitter into the aux cable and brought one out separately.

hmmm......bet it doesn't even have a cassette deck.

99 RSV Gas Mileage
Freebird replied to Yamastretch's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well...I wouldn't say that it's hard but it is time consuming. The carbs have to be removed to do it. -
Yea, you guys are right. There are some links missing for the new group on the home page. I'm trying to figure it out but it may take me a couple of days. I'm tied up doing a trade show in Indianapolis through Saturday evening so have limited time right now. Hopefully will get it straightened out one evening though.

I lost my New Posts link from tool bar
Freebird replied to dogman's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
Apparently those who have already been moved to the "Supporting Members" group have lost that link. It is very strange but I'll figure it out ASAP. -
There are a number of us here running VMAX rears in our RSVs for exactly the reason you describe. I honestly think it is one of the best modifications I've ever done. There are two ways it can be done. Either remove the gears from a VMAX rear and install them in your rear end or use the complete VMAX assembly and machine the mounting area and hole for the speedo sensor. There is one other option and it is the one that I and several others here chose. Go to http://www.rmsportmax.com and buy/exhange there.
