  1. OK...that is fair criticism and it's always welcome. Let me address a couple of them. Yes, the other Venture site sends you pins, patches, etc. We could do that too. All we need to do is raise the price of the dues here to match theirs and we could cover that. I chose to do it this way though because I do understand that some folks are going through tough times and having access to the site is the important thing to them. Some could care less about pins, patches, decals, etc. So, here you have a choice. A basic membership with access to all the important information and fellow riders and the opportunity to purchase the other items if you so desire. Sorry, but I think that our way makes more sense. I may be wrong though. As for the logo design. I designed it long ago when I first started this club. I do not profess to be a graphics artist but most everybody voted for it and liked it at the time. A couple of years ago, I posted here that I thought we needed something better and asked if there were any artists here who were interested in coming up with a new design. The response was OVERWHELMINGLY against a new logo. The bulk of comments were that "this is our logo, it always has been, there is no reason to change it". So, I dropped the issue. Further discussion, comments, suggestions are always welcome.
  2. Folks, I just wanted to take a moment to tell you that I am sorry that I'm not posting as much as I once did. I love this group and it is as important to me as it has ever been but things have just gotten a bit busy for me. I still get every single post by email and read them all. I respond to some but not as many as I have in the past. The recession has taken a bit of a toll or our company also. We are doing fine and I think my job is secure but they are asking us to work a few more hours, see more customers and do what we can to drive more sales. I used to be on the road about 4 days a week and then get home Thursday night, do my reports and etc. on Friday and enjoy the weekend. Now I'm leaving early on Monday morning and not getting home until Friday evening. Then I usually end up doing my reports and etc. on Saturday or Sunday and getting ready to leave again on Monday. I'm feeling pretty good. They eye is doing OK at this point, vision is still good but it's too early to get excited about it. I don't know if it's just the fact that I'm getting older or the radiation but I find that I tire out really easily right now. I've been told that the radiation has a lingering effect that causes it. The fact is, when I get to my hotel room at night after driving all day and seeing 15-20 customers per day, I'm pretty much worn out. So please, understand that I'm still here and am still doing things in the background that need to be done. I still post fairly often but just don't feel as creative and outgoing as I usually do. I'm sure it will get better soon and things will be back to normal. Don
  3. Yea, he was out of line. The thing is though, he was SO goofy and SO out of line that it came across as comedic to me and not a slam against bikers. I thought it was funny and did not feel offended after seeing it. That's just me though.
  4. OK folks, several of you have requested that we offer some new shirts for our members. I'm very pleased to announce that Big Tom has offered to head up this project and we will be offering something very soon. I suggested that we keep it simple and just offer a couple of colors and styles but Tom said that it's not a huge deal to offer several colors and styles so we will see what he comes up with. These shirts WILL have our new revised logo on the back and probably just VentureRiders text in the front pocket area. YES...I did tell him that some of you insist on pockets so we do plan to offer those also. I've attached the new logo for those of you who may not have seen it. A huge thanks to Gray Ghost for his work on the Logo.
  5. Really sorry to hear it. Prayers sent and will continue to do so.
  6. Now THAT sounds legit.
  7. THANK YOU!!! Geezzz.....if it is stuck at the very top of that area, how hard would it be for folks to find? I thought the issue was that it got buried and people couldn't easily find it.
  8. I recently added a post to the first gen tech library that lists a couple of automotive thermostats that can be used in place of the expensive Yamaha thermostats on the first gen bikes. Somebody asked if these thermostats would also work on the second gen. Does anybody know?
  9. This area was created for the posting of legitimate fund raising events that are motorcycle related but being held by groups other than VenturerRiders. There are many charitable causes out there and I often receive requests to put "stickies" on such threads in the watering hole. If I honored all those requests, the first page of the watering hole would be nothing but stickies for such causes. So, this area was created for our members to post such things. Please note. ONLY events that are being held by recognized groups will be allowed here and only when they are raising money for verifiable charities. Any others will be removed. Only "Supporting Members" may post to this area. Thanks for your understanding.
  10. I PLAN to bring them...if I just don't FORGET.
  11. I agree with Mr. Goose. Bad battery was my first thought also.
  12. I have NEVER heard so much WHINING. Listen folks, you have no idea how many requests I get to "stick" threads. If I stuck, and left stuck, every thread requested then the first couple of pages would be nothing but stickies and the new posts would be buried at the end. I know that this thread is fun and important to some but some of the others have probably been just as important to those who requested them. How about this. I move this thread to the "Fun and Frivolous" topic area and I can stick it there. Would that help?
  13. Yes, got them both. Will get them out as soon as they arrive. I'm being told the week of the 23rd now. Thanks all.
  14. I agree with the tires. Very common. Some brands are worse than others.
  15. OK folks, I have decided to "unstick" this thread. It has been at the top for almost 2 years and we just get too many threads stuck to the top. If you want to keep it active and up high, you will just need to POST to it. :
  16. OK....thanks for the orders so far. Everybody has included their address to that is good. At this point, about 65 have been sold so there are plenty left at this time.
  17. They are bad. The antennas on the '99 models were total junk. There is no set screw, they are a press fit and many have gotten loose just as yours have. It may seem OK right now but you will eventually start getting a squeal when you key the mic. That is because now that they are lose, you will start getting some corrosion where it is slipping off. You could clean it off but then it will get even more lose. Yamaha upgraded the antennas starting with the 2000 models. Many of us have replace those on the '99 with Firestiks or some other aftermarket brand.
  18. It is a bit sad for me and for all here that know him to think about him being so far away. I do respect and admire him for what he is doing though and will pray for his success and safety. I can't even imagine how Mini must feel but I hope that the fact that she has such a HUGE family HERE....will help in some way. We will miss you while you are gone Jeff, you are one of the best.
  19. That would be tuff for me...having no idea what they are doing. I hope you don't end up with a Mary Kay bike....but if you do, you would probably sell it to Muffin Man. I know you must be getting excited and we are looking forward to seeing the pictures.
  20. The only one I've seen that could be removed easily would be the Corbin seat with backrest. It has a screw that can be removed so that the backrest will just slide out. Just leave that screw out and it would work great. Corbins are expensive though and many people just don't like them because they are so hard. I LOVE mine.
  21. There are none made for the stock RSV mufflers. I have seen some folks use the RSTD tips on them but it requires some drilling and tapping as the stock RSV mufflers are not designed to use them. Some of us have bought RSTD mufflers off Ebay and other places and use those. They are the same as the RSV mufflers except they have tips that can be turned out, down, etc. If you don't mind LOUD...Khromewerks does make a very nice set of mufflers with different tips available. Don
  22. OH...I do but it's not anything except my artwork that they reworked and sent back. It is not like a representation of the actual decal, just my artwork which is basically our logo as used on the small patch.
  23. The CB antenna is SUPPOSED to be on the left side. If it's not, you SHOULD care. If they are not right, you have been lucky so far but it truly can destroy your CB radio and you will not like the repair bill. It takes about 3 minutes to unscrew them and swap sides. Why would anybody take the chance?
  24. Sorry, can't post a picture until they arrive. Will do that when they get here if there are any unsold.
  25. I had absolutely no problems with power, overheating or anything else while riding the highest peaks in Colorado. The bike did great.
