OK folks...these type of threads are bound to come up from time to time. We have a mix of members here. We appreciate each and every member here regardless of what other clubs they belong to. There are some fine members here who also happen to be very active in the Star club and there are some equally fine members here who have some real issues with the Star club. I think that enough has been said on both sides and I really think that it's time to end this one now and get back to discussing those things that make us the close group that we are and not dwell on one thing that we disagree on.

Don, Very good post and I agree with most of what you said. My problem is NOT with Star. They have some very fine members and I know that some of their chapters are probably great. My problem is also not with the leader of any particular group making some money off it. A LOT of work goes into such organizations and the larger the group, the more work required. No, my problem is entirely with the particular leader of the Star group. If it was anybody else making the money, I wouldn't care. I had a personal issue with Alan Cease and him only. Maybe I'll tell the story someday but I just don't think it matters any longer.

Crash Guard bottle holder
Freebird replied to Owen's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I agree about it bothering the passenger. I have a holder on my handlebars that is very easy to get to. I have one of the original Hopnel holders that attaches to the rear crash bars. Eileen said that it was always in her way so I removed it long ago. It looks like a nice idea but just didn't work out for us. It was actually given to me by Bob Dakin who removed it because Becky didn't like it there either. -
I'll only add that in regards to patches and colors, I don't care WHAT patch you have on your vest or jacket when you show up at one of our events. Wear whatever you like and you will still be more than welcome.

I'VE GOT IT TOO! Just want to say though, I really do appreciate all those posts.

Carlos, I'm really sorry to here this. There is nothing worse than sitting in a hospital and watching one of your children in such a situation. I went through a similar ordeal many years ago with my daughter and I felt so very helpless. All I can offer are my prayers and I PROMISE that I will be praying in earnest for your son as well as you and your wife. Don

If you are happy with the stock mufflers, there is absolutely nothing to gain with the HD mufflers. They are very slightly louder but not much. Many people drill them to get a louder sound. The looks are very similar. They can be found either straight cut which look very similar to your stock mufflers or slash cut which do give them a different look. Any mufflers off a Road King will work but the later models have a catalytic converter in one side that will need to be broken out. I'm not sure what year they started doing that.

intercom question
Freebird replied to RoadTraveler's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I don't think so. It should work with the AV set at any level. That just raises the volume to compensate for increased speed/wind noise. You should be able to test it partially anyway. Turn the IC volume up high...18-20. You should be able to blow into the mic and hear the noise in your own headset. Try this with the front headset and also with the rear. Try with both helmets in both positions. That should help determine if it's the entire system, one of the helmets or one of the locations. Do NOT push the "push to talk" buttons while test the IC. The mics are always hot for the IC and the CB/Radio volume control has nothing to do with the IC.- 5 replies

intercom question
Freebird replied to RoadTraveler's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There is really nothing to turn on. The intercom is on all the time. Make sure that you have the volume turned up. When you scroll through the options with the control pod...there will be one that says IC. That is the Intercom volume. We run ours on about 14. She also has a separate volume control on the left arm rest. Make sure it is turned up.- 5 replies

According to the article, the Adventure model has the more aggressive off road tires. Not sure what they look like. I guess I could go to the BMW site to see but since I'm not in the market, I guess I'll just not worry about it.

That is 98 RON. In many parts of the world, they rate Octane in RON. In the USA, the use AKI. 98 RON is equivalent to 93-94 AKI in the USA.

Nice picture. According to the article, for 2010 they have gone to dual overhead cams raising the HP to 110 and the torque to 88. Not a HUGE difference but a bit more.

I agree with the salt and I think that it's one of the single most important things you can do for your blood pressure. I was on blood pressure medication when I was about 30 years old. I was raised in a family where you salted your food automatically, before even tasting to see if salt was needed. After being on the blood pressure medicine for a couple of years, I stopped using salt on anything. I don't worry about buying salt free foods and etc but I just never touch a salt shaker. It's a bit hard at first but soon enough, you don't miss the extra salt at all. Within a few months I was off the blood pressure meds and have never needed them again.

You know...I always thought that I would probably buy at least one more new bike during my lifetime but I've about come to the conclusion that I may not. My '99 tops the list as the all time favorite of those that I have owned and I've owned a lot of bikes over the years. Retirement is coming quicker than I thought and justifying the cost of a new bike when I really do love the one that I already own just doesn't make as much sense as it once did. So....things could change but at this point...I'm not leaning towards ever replacing it. The '99 is paid for and has been for many years. Though we love to ride, life has gotten in the way and really reduced the number of miles that we get in each year. I hope to ride until I'm finished on this earth but am thinking that I can easily do it on the '99.

I would certainly not want to replace the RSV with it. I just can't see my wife..or me for that matter...being as comfortable on it as the RSV but if I could justify ONE MORE BIKE to own along with the RSV, this would be it...no doubt. http://www.webbikeworld.com/BMW-motorcycles/2010-bmw-r-1200-gs/

I think that $100.00 may be a bit high. I've seen and purchased them off Ebay for much less even after shipping was added. That being said though, all you need to install them is a set of brackets. You can make your own or buy them here: http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/2199/cat/7

I think that any such rumors that you hear at this point are exactly that...rumors. Yamaha has NEVER announced what they were doing until they actually do it. I don't doubt that it could happen but I think that any dealer who says such a thing at this time is just speculating.

I don't have a Dennis Kirk catalog but the only such lights I know of are made by Diamond R Accessories. Take a look at their website and see if they are the same. http://www.diamondraccessories.com

Really sorry to hear the news Buddy but I certainly understand. I hope that you sell that Goldwing fast....the Venture can wait a while. Seriously, I will keep you both in my prayers.

Well...I'm 54 and have been riding since I was 14. I didn't start off on NOTHING like that though. I hope it brings you many miles of joy. Now in response to some of these other posts...I'm going to be honest. While I'm ONLY 54, they say that you are as old as you feel. That being the case, I think I'm about 85. The past year has NOT been good to me but I sure plan for it to get better. At this time, I'm about blind in my right eye, almost deaf in my left ear and I've got gout which has really started flaring up more often over the past few months. Otherwise, I'm just a lean, mean, fighting machine.

Marking threads as read
Freebird replied to Yamaman's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
It is based at least partially upon time. You might try logging out when you leave if you aren't already doing so. The site logs you out automatically and I never log out when I leave but with the issue you are having, it may be that by the time it automatically logs you out that you have exceeded the time for new posts. -
Looks good but $875.00 is a bit rich for my blood. It may be worth the money but I would sure want to know how well it works and how long it lasts before putting out that much.
