Let me add a big HAPPY NEW YEAR from the Nelson family. Eileen and I are getting ready to get out of here for the night. Going to a New Years gathering in Sandusky, OH featuring a 50s/60s band. Of course that was WAY before my time so I won't recognize most of that music. It should be fun though. It's not that far from home but I got us a hotel reservation a couple of blocks from where the party is so we can celebrate and not worry about the drive home. I wish for all of you and yours a very happy and prosperous new year. I thank you for your participation here and look forward to many more great times with all of you in the future. As for VentureRider.org.....We've only just begun. PS: I'm attaching a photo of where we will be. If any of you happen to be there, look for Eileen and I.

Also, if you haven't done it, pull the left rear turn signal lens and check for corrosion. I've seen several of these bikes that got water and corrosion in that one.

Really sorry to hear the news. You will probably never know exactly what happened but the fact is, it only takes a second of some distraction before you can find yourself across that line. Our prayers go out to all the family and friends.

You are right. I usually spell pretty well but struggled with that one. It was one of those situations where I spelled it right the first time then it looked wrong. Oh well...I'm sure it won't be the last time. It also made me realize that the spell checker works here in the comments box but not in the title field. Now...why don't you just go grade some papers or something.

Here is an example of a picture that is 640 x 480 and only about 81,000 bytes.
-
The max size for pictures to be uploaded is 640 x 480 and no more than 200,000 bytes. It is easy to get a 640 x 480 picture under the 200,000 byte limit if you use the correct software to resize them. If they are only slightly too big, the software will automatically resize them but if they are way too big then you will get an error, usually something like "invalid security token" if you try to upload them. Uploading them as an attachment will always result in them being shown as a thumbnail at the bottom of the post that must be clicked to see in full size. The pictures that are shown in large size inline in a post are linked from elsewhere. You have to upload them to some other place and then link them here. In that case, they will still be resized so that they show up no larger than 640 x 480 but they will show that size and not as a thumbnail. They will have a bar across the top that tells you to click if you want to see it full size. Yes, larger pictures do use more disk space and bandwidth and if they are linked so that they show inline within the post, they do make the page load slower. That can be a problem for people with slower connections. In that case, the loading speed is also influenced by the site where the pictures are stored. If that site is having any kind of problems then it will affect the loading speed of the page here.

Thanks folks. One thing I know for SURE though is that there are SOME of you that I don't need talking to my wife.

Today I celebrate 15 years of marriage to my lovely wife Eileen. It seems like just yesterday that I discovered her standing in that pumpkin patch, barefoot, hair all tangled and wearing that home made feed sack dress. I remember how sorry I felt for her and though I knew that it would be a challenge, I just couldn't leave her in that predicament. So, like a knight in shining armor, I decided that I would make her my wife and just do the best I could with her. I'll admit that it wasn't an easy decision and that I didn't accept her proposal the first time she asked. But WOW...look at the fine lady that she has become because of my willingness to take such a chance. It has actually worked out quite well and she really cleaned up nicely. So....though "celebrate" is a stretch since I am, as usual, out of town...I just want to say that it has been a wonderful 15 years and I hope just the start of many more great years together. In all honesty, without her, I would be nothing. PS: If she were to just HAPPEN to read this....I just want her to know that I WILL find out who hacked into my account and wrote that first paragraph and they WILL be punished severely.

I hope they get it resolved. I know they must be pulling their hair out by now. I wouldn't wish that on anybody. As for splitting the fairing. Here you go: [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=494]Splitting the Fairing - VentureRider.Org[/ame]

Mini....you KNOW that I'm just giving you a hard time. You don't have to try to bring a pie all the way to Maintenance Day. I'll get down your way one of these days.

Manifold O-rings Float level Setup
Freebird replied to Grisolm1's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I don't understand why you are using that method. If you have the carbs off anyway, it is best to just use a caliper or ruler to set them while the bowls are off. -
OHHHH....now I understand. You will peel, chop, cook and bake for all those OTHERS but I'm not worthy. I'm only worthy of a cold drink of very icy water. Thanks for explaining it all to me.

I've heard of these alleged pies....never actually SEEN or TASTED one though. Not sure if they are real.

Final Drive/Drive shaft help...
Freebird replied to jrcain32's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I think that most of us here use the Honda Moly 60 for the splines and everything else on the drive shaft. -
I don't know....I'm thinking that nurse Helga is going to help a LOT and will add even more to the story.
-
No, but thanks for asking.
-
WOW...you folks have SUCH little confidence. Have I EVER let you DOWN? OK....let's just pretend that I didn't ask THAT particular question. At any rate, the upgrade is DONE. All is well in VentureRider Land.

Yes, it may come to that. Right now I just have some prescription pain pills that I take when i have to. I try not to take them and usually wait too long before I do. I had blood tests last week and Uric acid was high but only slightly. I'm keeping a watch on it.
-
Uh....yea...that was me. Just a little hiccup there....nothing to worry about...uh...nothing at all. So far...just a handful...or few...database errors. It will be seamless I'm telling you....uh...totally seamless.

Oil and gas in exhaust
Freebird replied to thoward's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes, but that is just too much. Don't worry about what the manual says. Just fill it halfway up in the site glass with the bike in the vertical position. Anything more can cause problems. -
The pond...hmmmm.....I THINK that ice is thick enough now.

OK folks....just a little heads up here. I've decided to upgrade our server for VentureRider.org The hosting company is running a special and I need to take advantage of it. For very little more money, we will double our disk space, double our monthly bandwidth and almost double our ram. In addition to faster processors and etc. This should be fairly seamless with little or NO downtime. That's my hope anyway. I'll let you know just before I pull the trigger.

Heck...I just crept outside and turned up the hot tub. It should be nice and toasty by this evening. I'm thinking that the hot tub and some Bailey's in my coffee would be just the ticket. Besides...back to work tomorrow...gotta hit the road again.
-
I actually DO have a bottle of that as well as a bottle of Bailey's Caramel sitting beside the coffee pot. I'm almost scared to try it though. Heck....I'm falling down WITHOUT any alcohol.

You know....sometimes in life you are the bug and other times you are the windshield. I honestly feel like the bug right now. We had a nice Christmas in spite of some aches and pains though. First of all, Christmas Eve morning I started coming down with a rather nasty cold. Sore throat, head all stopped up so I felt like I was in a drum when I talked, etc. Nothing too terrible but certainly not feeling 100%. Then by later Christmas Eve, my body decided that it was due for a flareup of my Gout. Now those of you who truly have Gout know exactly what it does to you. I usually get it a couple of times a year in my left toes and ankle but this time, it hit full strength in both feet...toes, ankles, etc. It darn near crippled me to the point that I could barely get out of bed and get down the stairs on Christmas morning but I finally managed to make it. Took some pain pills and within a couple of hours, I was pretty much functional again but with the gout and the cold I just wasn't feeling my best. The day progressed nicely enough. Watched my son open his gifts, had a nice fire going in the fireplace, coffee for Eileen and I and hot chocolate for Dylan. Just a very nice quite family time. Later in the day my brother in law came over and also Tony who is my wife's nephew accompanied by his finance and her two children. Had a very nice time and then later a fantastic Christmas dinner. After dinner we all pitched in and cleaned up a bit. The refrigerator was so full that I decided to take the ham into the garage and put it on top of the freezer over night as it was plenty cold in the garage to store it there. Well, over the past few months I have progressively approached total blindness in my right eye. I'm slowly adjusting to it but am just not there yet. I guess it was a combination of being a bit crippled from the Gout and my depth perception still being off from the loss of site in my eye but when I stepped out of the kitchen into the garage, I completely missed the top step. There is a three stop drop from the kitchen to the concrete garage floor and there I was in a free fall of about 3 ft. while holding a nice large Pyrex platter with a ham in it in my hands. As I fell, I managed to twist around so that the Pyrex platter would not hit the concrete floor and was successful. I managed to hold onto the platter and keep it from hitting the floor and shattering and thus saved the dish and the ham. The only problem is that in doing so, I successfully twisted both of my already hurting ankles and also found that using your left knee, left elbow and HEAD to cushion a 3 ft. fall off a set of steps is not necessarily the best course of action. So....I am now laying here on the couch after managing to slowly ease down the stairs this morning. I am nursing two sprained ankles, a twisted left knee, a sprained left elbow, rash on my left knee and left elbow, a knot on my head and I STILL have this danged cold. Otherwise, life is good. I hope that you all have a fun but SAFE New Years day. I think I'm going to just wrap myself in bubble wrap and hole up here until spring.
