In your opinion, what are the top five states to motorcycle in?
Freebird replied to Sunrayman's topic in Watering Hole
I would be hard pressed to name just 5 states as my favorite because most that I've ridden in have something to offer. I guess these would be at the top of the list though: Vermont Arkansas Colorado North Carolina Georgia Tennessee Oops...that was six. Also in Canada....the Banff area would be hard to beat. -
You folks may be right. I probably should have just deleted the posts that took the thread off track. To be honest, I allowed myself to get a bit irritated after my two requests to NOT take it down that road were totally ignored. I will try to do a better job in the future.

That is exactly what happened. It's really a shame that folks can't discuss something else that is of interest without it getting hijacked with all the political mess. I posted TWO times to NOT let it get political but some folks just can't let it go.

Steering Head Bearings Hint
Freebird replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Here are some old pics I found that Rick Butler had sent me long ago. It is time consuming but not nearly as hard as it looks. -
Always happy to help. I promise it will get easier as you go.

See if this thread helps any. It is in response to a different issue but shows the drum and pins. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40713

Diamond R Accessories makes a nice one also. They are a great company to deal with. http://www.diamondraccessories.com/yamaha/proddisplay.php?name=Passengers%20Tour%20Mug

Yea, I admit that I know very little about that engine. I know the 3.8 wouldn't touch it in performance. I was basically just talking about reliability, gas mileage, etc. The 3.6 may be just as good or better, I just have no experience with it. I know that some of the small V6 engines made by GM had plenty of issues. Intake manifold and head gasket leaks were way too common. I'm talking about the 3.3 (or was it 3.1?) and smaller though. As for the Buick, the only one I ever owned was a 1970 GSX with 455, Ram Air and posi-track rear. Now THAT car would GO.

I've never tried the product either and likely never will. I'm not bashing it but just don't see any reason to use it. Whether your mount your own tires or have them mounted, it only takes a few minutes extra to do a tried and true spin balancing. I've never had any problems doing it the old and proven way so I will just stick with it.

The easiest place to get them is from Rick at http://www.buckeyeperformance.com He knows exactly what you need and offers a VentureRider discount. You can still find them a bit cheaper elsewhere but you will have the headache of needing to know exactly what to tell them you need and etc. Rick knows exactly what you need and has them ready to go. -
I agree with the good comments. I've never owned a Subaru vehicle but have known several people who have and I've never heard anything but good about them. I know that even their small engines are great. I have a pressure washer now with the Subaru motor. I just bought Eileen a new car and the Subaru was certainly on my list. As reported elsewhere, we ended up buying another Kia Sorento as we were very pleased with the 2004 model that we traded in. It came down to economics for us. The price on the Sorento was just too good to ignore. I think that I would have had to buy the Subaru Tribeca to get one with as much room and equipment I got on the Sorento and the price would have been thousands more. In fact, the price for a NEW 2011 Sorento was in line with the price of 2 and 3 year old models of similarly equipped models from other manufacturers. If price had not played a part though, the Subaru would have gotten some serious consideration. I don't think you can go wrong with it.

I honestly think that the 3.8 is the best V6 that GM has ever produced. I had a Pontiac Bonneville years ago that I put about 140,000 miles on before selling it and never had a problem of any kind. Then a few years ago I had a Monte Carlo SS with the 3.8 and though I only put about 35,000 miles on it before trading it for a SUV, it seemed to be just as good.

uh oh....that didn't come out right. I MEANT...I have not burned my legs or had any other problems. BUT....the other way you take it is true also, I haven't burned anything.
-
Yep...I'm one of those people who don't like them. I had them on for ONE trip and took them off and sold them immediately upon returning home. My hands and fingers got number with them and that was WITH the stock end weights installed.

I took them off long ago. I just think it makes everything much cleaner looking. I've not had any problems burning my legs or anything else.

Steering Head Bearings Hint
Freebird replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sorry, I don't have any pictures. I did at one time but have lost them over the years. Rick Butler and I did mine in my garage when I lived in Dallas almost 10 years ago. It is a pretty big job though. Even doing it my way, hanging the fairing and not unhooking any of the wires, it was still a 5 to 6 hour job if I remember correctly. -
You will both be on our minds and in our prayers. You have a strong woman there my friend, I know you are there for each other and that will make all the difference.

Save folders for PMs
Freebird replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
You aren't missing anything, there just isn't an option to move the sent items to a folder. The only way that you could do it would be to "forward" it to yourself and then move it from your inbox to another folder. I haven't tried that but it should work fine. -
Steering Head Bearings Hint
Freebird replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes, you can completely remove the top bearing and also drop the front enough to get to the lower bearing and repack it in place without unhooking any wires. -
Did I just read that correctly. You used the words Beer30 and "behave himself" in the same sentence? Were you able to type that with a straight face?

We could do that or a valve check...which I just happen to need on my bike. -
Steering Head Bearings Hint
Freebird replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I remove the outer fairing, unbolt the inner fairing and let it hang with a rope from an eye-bolt in the garage ceiling. You can pull it forward and let it hang and have room to do the job. You can also drop the forks low enough to inspect and grease the lower bearing. Works fine. -
Do any of you get into the fantasy bidding on the Barrett Auto Auctions? I have never done it before but did for a while yesterday. It is actually kind of fun. If you are the closest and faster bidder on one of the selected cars, you can win a 32 gig Ipod. If you are the highest total points of the day, you win a 32 inch LCD TV and if you are the highest points winner for the entire 4 day auction, you win a full entertainment center. I would never have the time to sit, watch and bid on close to 40 hours worth of the auctions but it was fun doing it for a few hours yesterday. I didn't win anything but was close enough on the 4 that I did bid on that I earned a good many points. Had I played all day and did as well as I did on those four, I would have been near the top in the daily standings. Kind of fun but time consuming. I love watching what those cars bring though and realizing that I would have been sitting on a gold mine had I hung onto my two '69 Camaros, my 74 Dodge Challenger, my 454 Chevelle SS, my 1970 Buick GSX 455, my '71 Chevy Super Cheyenne short/wide bed truck with factory tach dash and etc. and several other cars from the past. Also Eileen once had a '68 Mustang convertible...that would do very well also.
