  1. The problem may be that what you saw was the mufflers being installed on the '05 and newer RSTD. They are very similar to the RSV and the mufflers are slip on. Sounds like the first generation RSTD's are different.
  2. Just a straight cut. No reason to strip.
  3. I just ordered a set too Larry. I kept meaning to make some but never got around to it so thank you for doing this. I've already paid with PayPal but it didn't mention shipping cost. Let me know if you need more and I'll get it sent.
  4. Yep, I got it thanks.
  5. I've seen this debated on many sites for a long time and there are people that will argue both ways. In my opinion only, QUALITY leather gear offers better protection. I just don't think that any of the Kevlar or other choices offer as much abrasion resistance. That is just my opinion though and my preference due to weight, comfort, etc. is textile.
  6. I agree that something isn't right. I know of no differences at all between the various years. Are you sure that they all have the same seats? I know that the optional Yamaha touring seat was made by Corbin and they will seat you a bit lower.
  7. My order since going to the Edsets would be a bit different. With past headsets, I would agree with you. After the Edsets though, I place the headsets ahead of the bikes speakers by a long shot. I've not tried the earbuds but may one of these days. The Edsets module has a earbud jack built in so you can just plug them in and use them instead of the headset speakers if you choose to. I've been happy enough with the Edset speakers though that I just haven't tried it. I have no doubt that they would sound better though.
  8. I'm really happy to hear that she is improving. I think that you are probably not being a good enough nurse. You ARE waiting on her hand and foot aren't you?
  9. LOL....but then it wouldn't be Freebird's Maintenance Day which has always been at Freebird's House. That is not to say that you can't hold one there also.
  10. It IS an open forum and I don't think that anybody has gotten nasty with you for having your opinion. People have just expressed their OWN opinions which differ from yours. Didn't you expect them to do so in an open forum?
  11. If the vent is the only issue, I wouldn't worry about it. The round vents are very easy to install and the Goldwing style vent is not all that difficult. I DO wish that they offered it in the light tint though.
  12. Looks like we are going to have a great turnout for Freebird's Maintenance Day in Oberlin, OH. If you have never attended this event, you really should try to do so. At this time there are 127 people signed up and 29 "maybes". You will meet a LOT of great members, learn how to many maintenance procedures on your bike, share some good food and just have a great time. If you are planning to come but haven't registered yet, please do so when you can. Here is the link to the calendar where you can sign up. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=153&day=2010-6-19&c=1 If you haven't ordered and paid for your shirt yet, please do so if you want one. I will be placing the order in the near future and it is not likely that there will be a second order. If you can't attend but will still like a cool shirt, you are welcome to one. Here is the link to the information on the shirts. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45872 To see some pictures from previous Maintenance Days, just go to the VRPhotos page at Photobucket and look for the various albums titled Freebird's Maintenance Day or just Maintenance Day in the left menu. http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/
  13. I'm pretty much the same way. I like having a .pdf copy on the computer but like having the paper manuals and etc. that came with the bike. Just something about having all the original documents.
  14. I agree about the temp gauge. The bike has to run a good while before it will start reading. I don't remember my oil gauge taking any time but you might want to take it for a good ride before you start taking things apart. See if it starts working.
  15. I've had both. They are both good shields. F4 does not offer one with the tint. I liked the very light tint of the Clearview and for that reason, I would order a Clearview if I were in need of a new shield. I think that both hold up very well.
  16. Very nice job. Looks good.
  17. Now that is FANTASTIC NEWS. I sure hope that it is the start of many reports of our members here reporting such positive news. We are very happy for you.
  18. This might be a decent deal for anybody needing a hitch. Don't know the seller but thought I would post it for anybody looking. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-receiver-hitch_W0QQitemZ290411848531QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item439de52353
  19. I would like to join in here but I have never named any of my bikes. I've thought about it briefly a few times but nothing came immediately to mind. Maybe someday.
  20. OK folks....I have orders now for about 77 shirts. I'm going to give it a few more days and will announce a last call before I cut it off and place the order.
  21. Tom...all I can say is that I am so sorry that she is having to endure any pain at all and YOU better take care of that lady. You are in the same boat that I am....you KNOW you are lucky to have such a wonderful lady. I know that it will all turn out for the best and then she will be back to putting you in your place.
  22. I don't remember.
  23. WOW...I think you are WAY off in that assessment. You are saying that NONE of us are riding the bike that we want to be riding. I can tell you that is just not right. These bikes have a tremendous following and there are some here who wouldn't be happy with anything else. I like Harley. I have owned them and still wish from time to time that I had one to add to my stable. I honestly do NOT want to get rid of my RSV to do so though. I also like the Goldwing. I rode Eck's last year at Vogel and was impressed with the way that it rode and the power and my wife loved the back seat but I was not nearly as comfortable as I am on the RSV. As for the money, things have changed for us over the past few years but when I bought my RSV in '99, I paid cash for it and had the means at that time to buy any bike I wanted. I looked at the Ultra Classic, I test rode a Goldwing as well as a Valk Interstate. I bought the RSV because it was the bike that fit me the best. I have since wished that I could own additional bikes but have never regretted my purchase of the RSV.
  24. I haven't had that happen but I know from experience that some companies that WILL insure bikes seem to not really want to based upon their prices. You just have to look around. I have State Farm on my home and my wife's car. I've been with them for about 15 years. In spite of that, they were way higher on motorcycle insurance than Progressive so I've had progressive on the bike for more than 10 years now. A couple of years ago when my son turned 16 an started driving, I found myself shopping around once again. In spite of having my home and car insured through State Farm, it turned out that Geico was considerably cheaper than State Farm so I insured his car through Geico. So now I have vehicle insurance through State Farm, Geico and Progressive. Go figure.
  25. Yes, the cruise should only work in 4th and 5th gears though mine only works in 5th gear for some reason. I have to look at that some day and try to figure out why that is but to be honest, I never use it in 4th anyway so haven't worry too much about it.
