antenna question
Freebird replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just screw them off and swap sides with them. Takes about 2 minutes. -
I agree...those would be changed immediately. Mine are not nearly that bad and I have no problem riding on them but I'll sure be watching them after seeing those pics. I'm at a loss folks. I really like the way the Avons handle and feel but I just see no excuse for this cracking issue. Therefore, my official stance is that I will not be recommending them any longer unless Avon acknowledges that they have a problem and do something to correct it. That really narrows down my choices. At this time, it's either back to the Michelin Commanders and just tolerate the slight noise in the long sweepers or try the Dunlop Elite 3. I am a bit apprehensive about the Elite 3 as I have already read of two folks here who had them blow at while almost new.

Amazing First Gen in Reno listed on Ebay

I agree...that is a rare find. As for the second gear issue and the frame problem though...yep...they WOULD apply to that bike. It would probably be a long time before you had to worry about it but I'm not sure that I wouldn't just address both issues right off the bat and never have to worry about them again. -
As stated already, the Nolan helmets come with the quick release buckles. We really like ours. I don't know if they are exactly the same as these or not but the Nolans are DOT certified and I don't know that they could be if the buckles were not.

I might give them a try but do they actually make the exact size for the rear? Isn't it a lower profile tire? Yea, like I said, I plan to keep riding this one as I don't think it is unsafe. It is only maybe half worn out so unless it gets a lot worse, I'll not change it right now.

I hadn't thought about it but I guess it was my warmest first ride. There have been some decent days over the past week but always raining. Yesterday was probably close to 70F. I didn't even wear a jacket.

OK...it wasn't very far but I did get out on the bike for the first time this season. Only got in about 40 miles but it sure felt good. Bike had been sitting all winter on the battery tender and a full tank of gas with a can of Seafoam. It started as soon as I touched the starter button. Got a little ride in and then just before getting home, I had a long stretch where I could see a mile or two ahead of me. No cars on either side of the road so I wound it up to about 110 MPH for just a few seconds. She is running great and it sure felt good to get some wind in my face. The bad news is that a thorough inspection of the tires does show just a bit of cracking starting on the rear. This is an Avon Venom and I'm hearing WAY too many reports on this problem. I don't know where the rest of you are seeing the problem but these are very small cracks...about 1/2" from the rim. Mine are very small and each one is maybe 3/4" inch long or so and they almost make a dashed line around the tire with each one being maybe 6" apart. I'm not too concerned about them at this time and will continue to run the tire but will keep my eyes ... er...my EYE on them. With repeated reports about this issue though, I guess these will be my last Avon tires. It's a shame because I really like the way they wear and handle. I guess next time I'll either go back to the Michelin Commanders or else try the Elite 3.

antenna question
Freebird replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I think yours have been modified. The First Gens came with a single antenna with a splitter. If you have two, then I think somebody has modified it but apparently you DO have two CB antennas. -
Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 for motorcycles. Been using it in my '99 Venture for almost 11 years. I also use Mobil 1 in everything else I use. Won't be changing to anything else. I've used several different filters but have use the Walmart filters for a couple of years now.

Yes, that's pretty much common for the errors. I don't know of any way to calibrate them separately.
-
Hate to ask the obvious but you DO have it on speakers and not set to HS right?
-
Yea, I'm not sure but I think that Kennedy makes something that would help integrate it all together. Try doing a Google search for Kennedy Cell Sets or something like that.

I've owned a lot of bikes over the years but I'll just limit this to the time after I got back into riding after a few years without a bike. In 1996, I decided that I had been too long without a bike. I found a very nice '95 Honda Shadow Ace and bought it. I loved the bike and Eileen loved riding about as much as I did. It wasn't long before I decided that I needed a bigger touring style bike for the trips that we wanted to take. I didn't want to sell the Shadow though so I found a very nice '88 Venture Royale complete with trailer and added it to the stable. The Venture was a great bike but just didn't fit my body that well. I just couldn't find a way to get comfortable on it. I still liked riding the Shadow more than the Venture. I then ran across a one owner '86 Harley FXRD with 17,000 miles on it. I flew from Dallas to Tulsa, OK and bought it and rode it home. It had a bit more of the cruiser styling of the Shadow but had the fairing, trunk, bags and etc. of the Venture and I was pretty happy with it. We rode it for about a year and I have to say that I never had a single issue with it. It was never in the shop for any reason, was comfortable and overall just a great bike. Then in 1999 Yamaha came out with the RSV. I loved the way it looked and after I saw and sat on one at a dealer in May of '99, I knew it was the bike for me. I bought the '99 RSV in the middle of May of '99 and have been very happy with it. I sold the Harley on the same day that I picked up the RSV. I admit that I sometimes miss the FXRD and often wish that I had kept it also but it just didn't make sense to do so. The ONLY thing that I didn't like about the FXRD was that it was a very limited production motorcycle. Harley made the FXR, FXRT and FXRP but the FXRD was only made for the one year, 1986. It was named the Grand Touring Edition. It had a different exhaust that the other models and a bit more HP. The problem was there due to it's limited production, there was really no aftermarket for it. Accessories were pretty much impossible to find. This is a picture of the bike at the previous owners house in Tulsa. It also came with a riders backrest that he didn't use but I had it on before I left and never removed it.

Bill notified me a good while back that he was going to be unable to hold the event. I'm not sure what the reason was now but he asked me to remove it.

I've been sort of looking for something. Send me a PM with what it is and how much you want.

What size are they? The system will try to resize them for you but if they are too large, it often doesn't work. They need to be no larger than 640 x 480 and no more than 200,000 bytes.

So...you worked for Roland Satterlee at Southbay. Glad it was you and not me. That was one of the very few meetings that I stood up and nearly walked out of after we had installed a plating line for him. He insisted that the tin bath anode baskets be stainless steel. I told him that stainless steel baskets would be complete eaten up by the bath but he insisted that the Shipley chemistry they were using was compatible with SS baskets and wouldn't listen to my recommendation for titanium baskets. A few days after the line was put into service, they called me in from Dallas, TX for a meeting and when I got there, he wanted to know if we were going to pay for all his tin baths that had to be dumped because the baskets were eaten up. uh....no....we were NOT. He got a bit ugly about that. There was also a big customer in San Jose....I'm trying to remember the name but for the life of me I can't right now. I remember the guy that I negotiated with ... Jerry Bauer was chief purchaser and he was BRUTAL but a good guy and we got the deals done. I think we hijacked this thread...sorry about that...you will not be returned to your regularly scheduled program.... though I think that this discussion is safer than where the other one was headed.

Gauges Not Working?????
Freebird replied to StarRider07's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I agree with everything you said...though I couldn't have said it as well as you did. I've had oil pressure gauges on a lot of vehicles over the years and there is pretty much always air visible. When I installed my guage, I didn't bleed anything at all and though I haven't looked lately, there were at least several inches of air and it is probably still there. It may have compressed and look like less now but there still has to be air or I would have a leak somewhere. It read oil pressure as soon as I started the engine. -
Jeff, I was western regional manner for a company name Process Automation Int'l Limited. We manufactured automated plating lines, electroless copper lines, black oxide lines and gold tab platers as well as some waste treatment equipment. I even moved to San Diego for a few years to establish relationships with manufacturers reps and continued making trips out there even after moving back to Dallas. There probably aren't a lot of plating shops that I wasn't in at one time or another. I had a lot of customers in CA, AZ, WA, UT and OR. I don't know who you worked for as there were a LOT of small shops also but some of my larger customers were Industrial Curcuits, Herco Technology, Tyco, Southbay Circuits, Multek, Continental Circuits and some in house platers like IBM, Hitachi, Motorola, Zerox, etc.
-
I was in the plating business for almost 15 years. Not a plater but I sold automated high volume plating equipment for plating circuit boards as well as general chrome plating for auto bumpers, grills, etc. I left that business because the EPA restrictions had all but killed the industry in the USA. Most of my customers had moved to Mexico or South America or to Malaysia, China, etc. I made many trips to those countries before I finally got tired of it. Zero waste is almost impossible if you do any kind of volume and do it correctly. There must be rinse cycles between the various plating steps and there will be heavy metals in the rinse water. There are also various kinds of acids that will be present. I wish you the very best and it's NOT that hard to do but I can't see where waste treatment won't be an issue. As for the "backrest" issue...I'm not one to turn my back on a good investment but I'm not one to jump into anything site unseen and I'm also a hands on type partner.

Since you have posted pictures in the past, I would guess that the ones you are trying to post now are too large.
