Looks like we are going to have a great turnout for Freebird's Maintenance Day in Oberlin, OH. If you have never attended this event, you really should try to do so. At this time there are 127 people signed up and 29 "maybes". You will meet a LOT of great members, learn how to many maintenance procedures on your bike, share some good food and just have a great time. If you are planning to come but haven't registered yet, please do so when you can. Here is the link to the calendar where you can sign up. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=153&day=2010-6-19&c=1 If you haven't ordered and paid for your shirt yet, please do so if you want one. I will be placing the order in the near future and it is not likely that there will be a second order. If you can't attend but will still like a cool shirt, you are welcome to one. Here is the link to the information on the shirts. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45872 To see some pictures from previous Maintenance Days, just go to the VRPhotos page at Photobucket and look for the various albums titled Freebird's Maintenance Day or just Maintenance Day in the left menu. http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/

I'm pretty much the same way. I like having a .pdf copy on the computer but like having the paper manuals and etc. that came with the bike. Just something about having all the original documents.

Gauges Not Working?????
Freebird replied to StarRider07's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I agree about the temp gauge. The bike has to run a good while before it will start reading. I don't remember my oil gauge taking any time but you might want to take it for a good ride before you start taking things apart. See if it starts working. -
I've had both. They are both good shields. F4 does not offer one with the tint. I liked the very light tint of the Clearview and for that reason, I would order a Clearview if I were in need of a new shield. I think that both hold up very well.

Very nice job. Looks good.

Now that is FANTASTIC NEWS. I sure hope that it is the start of many reports of our members here reporting such positive news. We are very happy for you.

This might be a decent deal for anybody needing a hitch. Don't know the seller but thought I would post it for anybody looking. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-receiver-hitch_W0QQitemZ290411848531QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item439de52353

I would like to join in here but I have never named any of my bikes. I've thought about it briefly a few times but nothing came immediately to mind. Maybe someday.

OK folks....I have orders now for about 77 shirts. I'm going to give it a few more days and will announce a last call before I cut it off and place the order.

Tom...all I can say is that I am so sorry that she is having to endure any pain at all and YOU better take care of that lady. You are in the same boat that I am....you KNOW you are lucky to have such a wonderful lady. I know that it will all turn out for the best and then she will be back to putting you in your place.

I don't remember.

WOW...I think you are WAY off in that assessment. You are saying that NONE of us are riding the bike that we want to be riding. I can tell you that is just not right. These bikes have a tremendous following and there are some here who wouldn't be happy with anything else. I like Harley. I have owned them and still wish from time to time that I had one to add to my stable. I honestly do NOT want to get rid of my RSV to do so though. I also like the Goldwing. I rode Eck's last year at Vogel and was impressed with the way that it rode and the power and my wife loved the back seat but I was not nearly as comfortable as I am on the RSV. As for the money, things have changed for us over the past few years but when I bought my RSV in '99, I paid cash for it and had the means at that time to buy any bike I wanted. I looked at the Ultra Classic, I test rode a Goldwing as well as a Valk Interstate. I bought the RSV because it was the bike that fit me the best. I have since wished that I could own additional bikes but have never regretted my purchase of the RSV.

I haven't had that happen but I know from experience that some companies that WILL insure bikes seem to not really want to based upon their prices. You just have to look around. I have State Farm on my home and my wife's car. I've been with them for about 15 years. In spite of that, they were way higher on motorcycle insurance than Progressive so I've had progressive on the bike for more than 10 years now. A couple of years ago when my son turned 16 an started driving, I found myself shopping around once again. In spite of having my home and car insured through State Farm, it turned out that Geico was considerably cheaper than State Farm so I insured his car through Geico. So now I have vehicle insurance through State Farm, Geico and Progressive. Go figure.

Yes, the cruise should only work in 4th and 5th gears though mine only works in 5th gear for some reason. I have to look at that some day and try to figure out why that is but to be honest, I never use it in 4th anyway so haven't worry too much about it.

Well...you posted this in the computer help section so you may not get as many responses as you normally would. This section is actually for people needing help with their computers and/or using this website. I am going to move this to the "Second Gen Tech Talk" area for you. Now, the first thing I would ask is have you..or anybody else...changed or otherwise messed with your throttle cables?

Name of Restaurant Leonardo's Italian Grille Street Address 7575 Merriman Road City Romulus State or Province MI Website (Optional) http://www.leonardositaliangrille.com/index.html Quality of Food Great Quality of Service Good Biker Friendly? (Parking, Trusted Location, Etc.) - Kind of Food? (Mexican, Chinese, etc.) Italian, Steaks, Seafood Alcohol Served? Yes Additional Comments I eat at this place probably once a week when I'm in this area. It is close to the Detroit airport. Fairly casual and really good food. They have excellent steaks and great appetizers. Well divided smoking and no smoking sections. Plenty of parking. I can't say that it's biker friendly because I am usually in the area on business and not on my bike. I'm not saying that it's NOT, just that I don't know. Certainly not a bike hangout type place though.

Need some help identifying an RSTD.
Freebird replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I updated the history information. Not sure it's 100% correct but it should be close. -
There is a locking nut. It will have a tab that bends up into one of the slots. Did you bend that tab down?

I used a LOT of them when I was putting them together and selling them. I saw no difference at all in them. Keep your eyes open and you may find them even cheaper. I paid as little as $12.50 including shipping but never more than $25.00 including shipping.

It really bothers me to read about all the problems with the Avons cracking. I had very good luck with the Michelin Commanders with the ONLY problem being that they were a bit noisy in the longer sweeping curves. For that reason and due to all the great reviews that I read from other users here, I went with the Avons last time. I've had no problem with them yet but haven't inspected them yet for this season. I will give them a good inspection before riding. Based on the reviews that I've seen on the E3's, I will give them a try next time. I can't offer a personal opinion on them just yet so based only on my personal experiences and what I've read here about the cracking Avons, the Michelin Commanders would go back to the top of my list when compared to Avon, Dunlop 404, Bridgestone or Metzler. I hope the E3's turn out OK. I have read TWO reports though of the E3's blowing out when almost new.

Yes, either of those stands will work if you fabricate a bracket.

There is also a Days Inn. Just up the road a bit from the Motel 6.

Thank you to those of you who have placed your orders already. 65 shirts have been ordered so far.

Harley Sprint? That was my SECOND bike. I was 15 at the time. I pushed mine a lot too but I loved that bike. Mine was a '66 250. It was made in Italy by Aermacchi.
