  1. If you post your ad in the classifieds, others can see it. It's not really your fault that people aren't in the habit of looking there for parts. That is why I started this thread, to encourage people to check the classifieds so that they see ads posted by other members. As for not having permissions, if you try to post to "Ebay Ads", you won't have permission. That is all Ebay ads and is automatically populated by a script. The forum you CAN post in, though classifieds is preferable, is the Links to Ebay, Craigslist, Classifieds. When you put your items in the classifieds, it automatically gets added to that forum without you doing anything else but if you want to manually post there, you can. This is the forum I am talking about. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?181-Links-to-Classifieds-Craigslist-Ebay-Sales-Etc As far as people not knowing the rules about ads in the forums, there is a "Sticky Thread" right at the top of the watering hole that I posted about 4 years ago in an effort to get the word out. Here it is: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?87332-Classifieds-No-more-mister-nice-guy
  2. I'll be giving away a Carbon_One lift adapter at Maintenance Day by the way. Also, some other goodies.
  3. Yes, that is assuming that it was the stock windshield. Some aftermarket windshields used ALL slots and that was a bad idea. The very first Clearviews used slots only but they corrected it pretty quickly.
  4. Yes, that is a good example of one that could eventually get deleted. The Watering Hole is occasionally pruned by date. There is no way that I have time to go through thousands of threads and choose which ones to keep. I agree there are some that would be sad to loose.
  5. There is no systematic deleting of posts simply because they are old. It really depends upon the content. Tech Talk posts are rarely deleted unless they are just jibber jabber with no real meaningful help at all. Watering hole posts are sometimes deleted by oldest. That is why it is important that tech type posts are started in the tech talk areas, those are the posts that have the most historical value for people with a problem. Links to Classifieds, Ebay, Craigslist are the most often deleted and in fact, should automatically prune on their own but it doesn't seem to always work. That is why for sale type stuff is posted there. It makes no sense to preserve ads that are long expired for items no longer listed or available.
  6. I deleted a thread today that was started by a good member where he was trying to part out a couple of bikes. Then another member added on that he had parts for sale also. The original poster stated that his parts were in the classifieds for a long time and that he never got a single inquiry. He finally got some interest when he posted them to the forum. That, as you all know by now, is not allowed. I'm not trying to be difficult but there are valid reasons for not posting for sale items in the forums. If you DO insist on posting them in the forums, they should ONLY be posted in the links to Craigslist, Ebay, and Classifieds section. There are two reasons for posting them ONLY in that forum: 1. Those posts get pruned by date so old items sold will be pruned at some point. Sold or not sold, they get pruned by date. 2. That forum can only be posted in by supporting members. Why is that important? Because you, the members, voted long ago and then later, again, to only allow ads to be posted by supporting members. You didn't want total strangers joining up here just to spam our website or simply to try and sell stuff. You wanted to see ads only from people that you had some connection to. I agreed to that and actually, I think it's a good idea so that is how we do it. The other reason that ads are NOT allowed in any other forums is that they end up being there for a long time, sometimes years. Look how many posts get made here. I and the moderators simply don't have enough hours available to comb through each and every post and delete the ones that are no longer valid. We shouldn't have to do that anyway. If we just prune all the forums by date, then a lot of good and helpful information will be gone forever. Those are the reasons it is done the way it is. So I would ask all of you to start using the classifieds. I'm not talking about just when you are trying to sell things but also when you are looking to buy things. Make it a habit. Think of it like a newspaper. You wouldn't open the newspaper and read the Sports Section if you were trying to find a good used truck for sale would you? It's the same here. If you are looking for parts, check the classifieds. Those who have things for sale will gain much more confidence in the classifieds if they knew that people were looking at them. I will say one other thing about the ads though. I've seen many times where somebody asked a question in the comments section of an ad but never got a response. If you have something there for sale, check it once in a while to see if there are any responses. If you are a buyer and want a quick answer, the seller's username is always listed. Click on it and send them a PM to be sure. It seems that I have to repeat this stuff every year or two but that's OK. I just want to remind everybody why some things are the way that they are and also give our newer members a little heads up. Thanks
  7. Looks great. I like the third gens more everytime I see one. I have ONE unrelated question though. Why do you link your pictures from another site rather than just uploading them here? I don't really care except that I'm afraid of what happened with Photopost. All the pictures disappeared when they went with their pay through the nose plan.
  8. Service and Infotainment manuals in PDF format. 2018 Service Manual 2018 Infotainment Manual
  9. 2018 Service Manual 2018 Infotainment Manual
  10. hmmmm....I just took another look and I tell you...it's pretty darn complete. I may be wrong, I haven't looked in detail but it may actually be the service manual.
  11. I did receive the PM and have downloaded the files. I will get them uploaded to the site today or tomorrow. I took a quick look and can see that though it says "Service Manual", it says below that, "Basic Information". I think it will be great information for people but just so everybody doesn't get their hopes up, it is NOT an actual service manual.

    SAF Fund

OK...sorry about the communication problem but what I THOUGHT I said was that there is a post "pinned" at the top of the watering hole. It is actually called the OPE fund. The thread is here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?128834-OPE-Fund That being said, it really doesn't matter because it goes to the same PayPal address as the Donation link. Any donations that have been sent since Condor's post were assumed to be meant for that fund. Thank you all very much for your help. Thank YOU Condor for getting the ball rolling.
  13. 23 people signed up for the ride to Quaker Steak on Friday night. Please sign up if you plan to go. Always a great time. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=507&day=2018-6-1&c=1
  14. Actually pretty awesome.
  15. Sorry for your loss. Those that don't have pets would never understand but we certainly do. We have noticed changes in our Sheltie (Gracie) lately. She isn't getting around as well as she once did. I know the day will come but don't even want to think about it.
  16. This discussion made me think to ask a question. Has anybody checked the speedometer with a GPS? I ask because every 2nd Gen Venture that I ever saw had a speedometer discrepancy of somewhere around 8%. When I see posts that the RPMs on the 3rd gen don't agree with the specified speed at that RPM it brings to question the accuracy of the speedometer. Many of us RSV riders have added SpeedoHealers or similar devices to correct the speedometers on our RSVs. They all read fast....when you thought you were going 70 MPH, you are actually going about 65 MPH or so.

    Pipes

    These will work Jeff. https://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-HARLEY-Stock-Limited-Ultra-Glide-Mufflers-PERFECT/332270208790?hash=item4d5cd90716:g:DxIAAOSwr~lYnQuf
  18. If I can download it from your Dropbox, I can then upload them to the site. That would be great. If you want to send me a PM with the information.
  19. You can't upload a file that large. If you know how to FTP, I can create a way for you to FTP it to the site and then I can link it.
  20. It is NOT customary to bring a gift for the host. There are two gas BBQ grills that you are welcome to use as well as a charcoal grill if you prefer. This is really casual, don't overthink it. Just show up and have a good time. Food will be provided on Saturday for lunch and there are usually leftovers for those who want more in the evening. There is no set charge and everybody is welcome to eat but there is a donation can for those who wish to help with the expenses. There are soft drinks and water available but you must provide your own beer or whatever if you so choose.
  21. Thank you Skid. I sincerely wish that I could be there but it's just not possible due to previous commitments. I know you will give our love to Patsy and the family.
  22. Just so everybody knows, flowers have been sent on behalf of us all.
  23. More bad news. Prayers up for him and the family. Hate it when this happens to one of our own.
  24. From what I was told yesterday, arrangments have not yet been made and we should get word as soon as they are. Flowers were sent to the home today on behalf of all of us.
  25. I truly hate Yamalube. I've tried it and my experience was that after as little as a thousand miles, especially in hot weather, shifting became more difficult, finding neutral was more difficult, valve noise increased, etc. I just hated it. When I bought my first RSV back in April of 1999, the first service was included in the deal. I had it serviced a day before leaving on a few hundred mile trip from Texas and touring Eureka Springs, Arkansas and surrounding areas. I could hardly wait to get back home and change it to Mobil 1. I've used Mobil 1 for close to 20 years and it is all I use in my vehicles. I use the Racing 4T in the RSV. Haven't looked at the specs on the third gen but the Mobil 1 VTwin would likely be the choice for it. In my opinion, there is no way that Yamaha would attempt to deny a warranty claim due to the use of Mobil 1's motorcycle specific oil. They would have very little chance of winning that battle. At any rate, it is a chance that I am always willing to take. Warranty or not, I buy and use my vehicles for my personal enjoyment and anything that takes away from that enjoyment is not worth me fussing over. I'll use what I think is best and worry about the other stuff should it ever come up. I will say one more thing. I had an issue with one bike to the point where I ended up filing a lemon law suit against Yamaha. That was around 2001 or so and part of the final settlement was me signing a non-disclosure agreement. I can tell you though, the subject of "what oil I used" was never brought up.
