Found my next project bike! 1990 Honda Transalp
Freebird replied to VanRiver's topic in Watering Hole
Cool old bike. Should be a fun project. -
I don't understand that. It is just another forum area just like this one. Nothing different about it.
-
Besides, those threads are automatically posted by VR Robot. If I move them, there will be no link to the original posters contact info.
-
It is possible but most of those threads have been purged over time. The best way would be for each person to just copy and repost their ads rather than me having to try and find them all.
-
That's why I haven't removed them. I will give it a few days to give people time to copy and create their new ads. Heck, I may even figure it out in the meantime but I doubt it.

Our classifieds was actually a different software that i had integrated with our forum software. Since the upgrade to a secure site, it has been discovered that the Classifieds no longer work properly. The company that I bought the software from is no longer in business so getting any help in updating the code to worth with our new secure website isn't going to happen. I messed with it for a little while but it is apparently over my head to find and modify what it would take to make it work again. So, I went searching for new classified software and there just isn't anything that I am really crazy about. What little is out there is way overpriced for what it is. The best one I've found is one that I tried before and found it to be lacking a lot of features. So at least for now, I have created a new section if the Forums called "Buy, Sell, Trade". That will have to do unless I come up with something better. As with the other Classifieds, anybody can view your ads but only supporting members can post in the classifieds. The positive is that they are right here on the same page as everything else. The bad thing is that you will receive no notification that your ads are about to expire so you will have to keep up with that. I will likely purge them, except for our member vendors, about every 90 days. I will always try to let you know before I do so and give you a chance to copy and paste to a new ad or respond to your own ad and I'll purge it on the basis of the last post to an ad rather than the creation date. One thing different about the classifieds forum is that a member can delete their own threads at any time. That will allow you to delete your ad if your item sells.

I've seen many of our Canadian members complaining about the cost of their auto/motorcycle insurance. Well I just read this report about a guy saving a good bit of money. Nothing to it. Let me know though if you need to change your screen name. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2018/07/30/canadian-man-legally-lists-gender-as-female-to-get-cheaper-car-insurance-report.html

Good job. Hope he checks us out.

It should be working OK now. Let me know. I have no idea what happened. Yesterday I modified the .htaccess file to automatically redirect any traffic to the .https secure link. It was working fine. Then I got Cimmer's report and did some checking and the .htaccess file was completely missing. Like it had been removed from the server. Nobody else has access to the server except for me and the hosting company. I just sent them a message to find out if they had removed it for some reason but they are great and have never done anything like that before. Even if it was causing some type of issue, they would have let me know. I'm completely perplexed.
-
I'm not sure what would cause that. There is a setting in the control panel under "Settings" at the top and then scroll down to "Account" and then "General" where you set your notification preferences as instant, daily, weekly, etc. but I think that is just for email notifications. I don't know of anything else though.

OK...one of the things causing ALL the threads to show insecure was the award images and the flags. All the images linked to our postbits had to be redirected to https. Pain in the butt but it's done. So, that is all I can do. There will STILL be a LOT of threads that will give you that warning. It is caused by any links that anybody posts in a thread that is not an https link. If you post any link starting with http, that is a link to an insecure site and will generate that message. Also, some things in our signatures would cause it. For example, any member who replies to a post and has the weather banner in their signature, it will create an insecure error. That's just how it works. I think that it will be years before all sites are secure and years before people get into the habit of post https links rather than http links. So it is what it is.
-
Yes, I see that and have absolutely no idea why it is happening or how to correct it. Maybe I'll figure it out at some point.
-
OK...I understand. Will change it soon.
-
What causes that is the fact that over the years, people have "linked" images rather than upload them directly to the site. There is no easy way to remedy that issue other than to go through the entire site and delete them.
-
I'm not sure what you mean. PayPal is the only way to pay the subscription online.
-
OK...this change is complete. You should now be on https://www.venturerider.org Hopefully you won't see any issues. If you do, let me know.
-
I am in the process of updating our site to the secure HTTPS protocol. It's not that we share any credit card information and etc. here because when you pay your subscriptions, it takes you to a PayPal site which has been secure ever since we started. The reason I am doing it is to get rid of the "this site is insecure" warnings that some of you see. Also, some newer browsers are even more restrictive and might even call this site "insecure" or take it as possibly harmful. So, I have purchased the necessary SSL certificates and am in the process of installing them and making the necessary changes. The URL for this site will change to https://www.venturerider.org Not the "s" at the end of the http. That is the only change in the url. A redirect will be put in place when I am done so that if you don't change your bookmarks, it will automatically forward you to the new URL. I will post again when the changes are complete.

Carb jetting question
Freebird replied to flynvy5's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm confused now. According to his signature, he has a '07 Royal Star Venture. In his profile, it says '09 VStar. Since he is mentioning carbs, I was assuming that he was asking about the '07 Venture. I guess we need to ask what bike we are discussing. I would also be curious about any changes RECENTLY made. K&N filter, Reinhart mufflers, etc. are all mentioned but how long ago was that done? If it has been running fine with all the current setup and just suddenly started having problems, it is not likely caused by the jets. They didn't change. -
was wonder'n about another gremlin bell order
Freebird replied to dueyk1111's topic in Watering Hole
I went ahead and ordered 50 bells. Just got a call that they shipped today so I should have them by early next week. None of you are committed to purchase multiples as you posted that you would. Feel free to order one or as many as you wish. Had to raise the price by $1.00. Still a good deal on custom bells. Please see this thread for ordering information. REMEMBER: Put your name and address in the "notes to seller" box when you order. Depending on options you use for PayPal, sometimes they include the address and sometimes they don't. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?17406-VentureRider-Guardian-Bells -
seat inter change?
Freebird replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Corbin's are a love or hate seat. They are very hard but for those who like them, they are great. There seems to be no middle ground, either you love them or hate them. As a temporary seat, I don't think it should matter that much. It would get you by. Personally, I love the Corbin seats but many don't. It takes several thousand miles for them to break in for you. They are expensive new. If you've found one CHEAP, you should be ok with it for the short time it will take to get your other one redone. -
It's great having members all over the country who can do that sort of thing for each other.

seat inter change?
Freebird replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Any seat from a 1999 - 2013 Yamaha Royal Star Venture will fit. -
I don't think there is a way to stick JUST the file. You could create a new post and attach the file. Then I could unstick the other one and stick the new one and close it to any responses so that just the one post and attached file is there. You wouldn't be able to update it though so really it would be useless.
