  1. Didn't even know that Western Auto was in these parts. Back in the day, it seems that every town in Texas with more that a dozen people had a Western Auto store. My first bicycle came from there. It was almost like a mini Walmart in that you could buy most anything except groceries. Loved that store.
  2. That answered my question. I was wondering if you ever heard static. That at least shows that it was powering on. I'm surprised you didn't here any at 8. Since I typically use mine only for communication with riders in my group, I always kept it set on 18 or so in order to block out pretty much everything else. To be honest though, that was on my other bikes, really haven't played with this one but will soon.
  3. I went with the Utopia backrest and couldn't be happier. They always make a quality product. My next purchase will the the Corbin passenger backrest.
  4. I like the one in the video also but don't like some of the comments that I read about it. Almost everybody agrees that it is picky about what ammo you feed it. Apparently 40 grain is the magic number and even states that in the owners manual. Feed problems are being reporting with anything lighter and even anything heavier. I hate it when a firearm is so picky about the ammo.
  5. These are the ones that I bought. I love them but and the order was fine but they were FERY slow to ship. I recommend searching for the part number and think about buying them elsewhere. https://www.amazon.com/Rox-Speed-FX-Patriot-Pivoting/dp/B071Y5NLBQ/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?keywords=Rox+Speed+FX+Patriot+Series+Pivoting+Risers+-+2in.+-+Black+4RP2RX01&qid=1553601413&s=automotive&sr=1-1-fkmrnull
  6. Just curious. What did you have the squelch set on?
  7. I've owned a few 22 mags in my day. One that I wish I had kept was a Winchester 22 mag lever action. I may find one and replace it at some point. The only one I have now is a Ruger Single Six with changeable 22 and 22 mag cylinders. Love this gun but wouldn't mind adding a semi-auto to the collection at some point.
  8. I agree 100%. The success of this forum so far has been the fact that some true friendships have been made over the years. We still have a good number of active members and add new members on a weekly basis. The new additions haven't kept up with the loss of members though. That loss is primarily based upon members who have moved to other bikes or, even more often I think, have given up riding as they have gotten older. The good news though is that the goal of this site was never to have the more members than any other such forum but that the members here be respectful and helpful to one another. We have picked up some new members lately who seem to fit in here very well. I don't think the new Star Venture is selling like I had hoped it would but we are seeing a few owners of the new bikes join us. Another factor is Facebook. I personally don't like the Facebook experience near as well as a categorically organized forum but there is no doubt that Facebook has played a huge role in the demise of actual dedicated forums. Some feel that it is a better choice because it is completely free. Yes, it is free to the users but make no mistake about it, Facebook makes many millions of dollars by exploiting users information to their advertisers. This site might or might not do better if it was totally free to the user but I plastered ads all over it. Back when we were really booming here, I have been told that I could really have made some money on it if I switched to an ad based system. The fact is, I turned down about $40,000.00 for this site from a company that wanted to monetize it with ads. The members here voted long ago, and a couple of times since, to keep the ads to a minimum. I promised long ago that this would be OUR site, NOT my site and that I would always do my best to consider and when possible, uphold the wishes of the members here. So, considering that this site is, I don't know, somewhere around 15 years old? I think it has aged fairly well and I took forward to many more years of gathering with my old friends here and making some new ones along the way.
  9. If you are absolutely convinced that everything is correct with the front, then the problem could be in the swingarm. A lot of people just assume that a wobble is caused by the front forks, head bearing, etc. but don't consider the rear of the bike. If there is play in the swingarm due to loose or bad bearings, that can cause a wobble.
  10. There are already a couple of them out there. The one from Big Bike Parts is cheaper and should do fine. I bought one from HitchDoc and it is built like a tank and took me about 6 or so hours to install. It's a very nice hitch but like most of their hitches, I think it is way overbuilt. Anyway, I have it installed and am happy with it but probably wouldn't go through all the trouble again. Would likely just go with the one from Big Bike Parts unless I was pulling a heavy camper or something. Even then, it may be fine. Also, we have a member here who makes a plug and play trailer wiring harness.
  11. Already??? He was looking for a hitch for an '84 I think.
  12. I agree that this bike is about the most comfortable I have ever ridden. I've never owned a bike that I didn't have to personalize a bit to make it perfect for me but this one required very little. The highway pegs, riders backrest, and handlebar risers just made it a dream to ride. I've added a handful of other things just for my personalization that include trunk rack, saddlebag lid guards, trailer hitch, tank bib, and cup holders but that's about it so far. Just not a lot available and not really much more that I want. I will likely add the Corbin passenger backrest and that will probably be about it.
  13. Service Manual For Royal Star Venture. Also should cover most of the RSTD bikes. RSV Service Manual 1996 - 2001 Service Manual

  14. That sounds like a fair deal but I recently bought some new ones for buy small shop so wanted to mention them also. These are only 5000 LUMENS but I can tell you that they are very bright. 4 ft. I had dual tube fluorescents in my shop and they were always bad but even worse in the winter when I don't heat my shop unless I'm in it. If they ever came on at all, they flickered and were too dim to be any good. So, I order 5 of these from Harbor Freight. I paid $24.99 each for them and they often go on sale for that price. Regular price is $29.99 each. After putting up two of them, I almost didn't put up the others. Two of these were MUCH brighter than the 4 double tube fluorescents even on a warm day. I ended up putting up four though and couldn't be happier. I have them all connected together and going to my on/off switch at the door. The come with 110v plugs but I just cut them off and connected them together. Each does have a pull chain so you can turn some off if you wish to. https://www.harborfreight.com/4-ft-led-hanging-shop-light-64410.html
  15. I agree. I've been watching this thread also and have given it much thought. I just don't think I can pick which one was my favorite. I've owned a LOT of motorcycles since I was about 14 years old. The first was a Super 90 Honda and first bikes always hold a special place in our hearts I think. I only rode it a short time before ceding it to my little brother and bought a 250 Harley Sprint. I think the stage of life we are in has as much to do with it as the bike itself. The Harley Sprint gave me a fair share of issues but most of them were self inflicted. I used that bike as a street bike, a hill climber, a motocross bike....basically, I beat the crap out of it. I pushed it more than once and it taught me a lot about working on my rides. It had a single fuse that was located in the headlight bucket. I learned that fuses are there for a reason and that if you blow one while riding deep in the woods, a brass screw and nut is really not a good substitute. My Dad helped me rewire after all the insulation melted off most of the wiring. Those were magic times though. Nothing can duplicate the freedom, smiles, fun, that I enjoyed at 15 on that thing. So, while it was certainly not the very best bike I ever owned, I guess it's the one that brings me the most pleasant memories as I look back on life. After cracking the swingarm and welding it back together several times, the front sprocket bearing finally gave up after being put in a bind from the swingarm finally not be aligned perfectly. It was mostly in boxes when I sold it and bought a Honda CL350. I had many great adventures on the Honda also but I think that the old Sprint comes out slightly ahead in adventures.

  17. Was glad to help. It's been a while since I did it but I think I remembered most of the answers. . Looking forward to seeing you this summer.
  18. Well, you must be getting senile. I have NO idea what you are talking about.
  19. Are you signed up yet? It will be here before you know it. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=513&day=2019-6-15&c=1
  20. Most of the issue with it sitting low is likely because of the broken frame. That is the first thing you need to address. I would look around and see if a Schrader valve has b been added. Itr appears that the original controls are missing so there is a fair chance that somebody has already modified it with manual fill valves. NOTE: The shocks are LOW volume. Do you use a air compressor to air them up. Most of us use a "Progression" brand or knock-off hand pump. Front forks are even lower volume of course. Easy to blow seals if you try to use a air hose.
  21. Thanks. I figured that was what you meant. Taking my hitch off would require disassembling half the bike again.
  22. Now you are confusing me. What hitch bolts have to be removed to install the wiring harness? Are you talking about installing the hitch?
  23. Sorry, I can't answer your question yet. I got it in the middle of the freeze that they call Ohio Winter and it is still sitting on my bench. I will be installing it soon but haven't even looked at it yet.
  24. Looks like the bike week in Sandusky is the week of May 24th. So it is a couple weeks earlier.
  25. I have no problem at all with a swap meet and we've done it in the past. Everybody is welcome to bring anything that they wish to sell. I also have no problem with you auctioning off my bike. As long as I get ALL the money and it has to be VERY profitable for me.
